Tony Bennett pulls out of tonight’s Idol performance:
The legendary crooner, who turned eighty a few months ago, is not well enough to put his golden pipes on the air.
According to a spokesperson for the star, he has a cold.
With just hours left until tonight’s live show, producers from “American Idol” are working hard to find a stand in. A source close to the show told Access Hollywood they are trying to get Canadian singer Michael Buble to fill in.

Tony Bennett is currently doing a nationwide tour. He is scheduled to appear at the Phoenix Symphony Hall on Saturday 4/7. I’m sure he feels that it’s more important to be well for that then sing on a reality tv show where none of the “talented” contestants paid any attention to what advice he gave them anyway.
Somebody on Pulse has posted a confirmation on MB appearing. I don’t know their source for the following snippet:
“Michael will perform ‘Call Me Irresponsible’, the title song of his upcoming CD being released May 1st. Check local listings for air times. Michael will also perform on the American Idol Charity Show, Idol Gives Back on April 25th. As well, Michael makes a surprise guest appearance on Amercian Idol tonight!”

Instead of having a guest performer why don’t they just let the people in the bottom two have a singout before they eliminate one of them? Is it me or is anyone else tired of the group song and guest performer taking the first 15 minutes of the show and not letting the booted contestant get a singout? At least in the Top 32 round everyone got a singout. If you believe Dial Idol then LaKisha is going home, so I for one would certainly like to hear her perform one final time. Is it just me that feels this way or does anybody else agre?
I thought I heard in a few weeks, they were bumping the results shows back to an hour. That way they’d have time for a group or guest performance AND a sing-out.
I have gotten a little tired of the guest performers, particualrly that weird whatever it was that Gwen S. & her crew did. And Gwen was glad to do it, her album sales really accelerated this week. And since Mr. B. is releasing an album this month, I m sure that he is more than pleased to appear. Particularly since he didn’t have to do any mentoring work. Not that I thought Tony Bennet’s mentoring amounted t o much.
I would rather see Elliott Yamin perform than MB.
I really like Tony Bennett and am disappointed he can’t perform tonight, but he is an amazing guy to be doing so much and looking so good at his age!
Could Lakisha really be the one going home? Seems hard to believe, but she isn’t one of my favorites.

It has always been a part of the show I loved the best, along with the group commericals. If you have a copy of Season 4, check out the crazy, wonderful things they did as a group!
I also believe the Guest Mentor should sing a song. You know if AI just cut one minute of commercials with each segemnt, they could fit everything in quite nicely! The singout isn’t as important as the remaining singers meeting with the departed contestant at the end of the show.
Also, wishing Tony a quick recovery! At his age, a simple cold could cause complications. It was nice seeing him on the show and the some highlights of his career!
Lakisha started out with a bang but has slipped a little bit each week. It has been a pleasure seeing her perform. I actually thought Haley might go tonight.

I’m reading DialIdol and it predicts that Haley goes home tonight, not Lakisha. Of course, Lakisha is in the bottom 2 - just saying.
According to DialIdol there was very little difference between Lakisha’s and Haley’s score. Haley’s percentage was just slightly lower than Lakisha’s so I guess anything goes.
