Brooke White and Carly Smithson Perform at the Jam for LA’S Best – VIDEO

So You Think You Can Dance producer, Nigel Lythgoe’s charity benefit for LA’s Best took place yesterday at the Kodak theater in Los Angeles. Michael Johns, originally scheduled to appear, was unable to join Carly Smithson and the So You Think You Can Dance dancers for the benefit performance, due to flight troubles on his way back from Atlanta. Brooke White stepped in for him at the last minute.

Some peeps from MJO where there, and grabbed some video. After the jump, Brooke and Carly duet on “The Reason” and Carly performs “Simple Kind of Man”

Video after the JUMP…

Thanks so much for posting these MJ. Both of them sounded amazing on the duet and Carly rocked it out on her solo. It is so nice to see Carly singing live again-we’ve missed her since the tour ended. Incredible!!!

Are they paid for these charity events? How do they determine which Idols to invite? Interesting that Syesha or Chikezie wasn’t invited; nor KLC.

  • CRB:

Too bad the microphone wasn’t louder on Simple Man, because that seems like Carly’s type of song.

It’s nice to see Brooke. Carly too, but I’ve seen more of her since Idol ended. I hope Brooke throws us a bone soon. I’m looking forward to her music and I know she’s not the sort to be rushed (which I like about her), but it’s easy to get bored when waiting for some sort of news/new music.

great duet. I didn’t think their voices would mesh well but they knocked it out of the park.

Originally, the only season seven contestants invited to perform were Michael and Carly, which isn’t surprising since these two have already been booked together for several other charity events. Not to mention it was Nigel’s idea to have them do the special duet at the finale, so he probably enjoys them.

But Brooke did very nice. I was very interested in hearing her singing voice with Carly’s and it sounded amazing!

I wish the vocals would have been a bit more prominent. I don’t really know what to think without that. I do, however, wish I could have been there. I must say that Brooke was far from a favorite of mine while on Idol. I always found her vocals lacking (never, ever ask her to do the SSB) and her personality a bit OTT. She has, however, impressed me more since Idol’s been done. Carly, however, never ceased to amaze me. I’m just curious if she puts out music now, what it will be. She never, IMO, gave us a clear cut picture of what she wants to do.

According to Carly’s mom in an online chat, we will be getting video of her in the studio this week posted in an article by Richard Rushfield of the LA Times. She has been working on her album for a while now, so this will give us a preview of what her new music will sound like. Can’t wait to hear it!!!

I hope Carly gets the success she deserves. She is really a fantastic singer. Isn’t there a rock band somewhere that needs a powerhouse vocalist? She’s what I call a “gives you goosebumps” singer. Hopefully her album lives up to her potential and get’s lots of hipe.

I was at the event and I think Carly stepped in for Michael as Brooke was on the program, but Carly was not. Not too sure though.

They had some issues in general though. Elliott Yamin was also there singing “This Christmas” (if I remember correctly), but he had horrible microphone issues and we could barely hear him while he was on stage. It was such a shame.

Carly & Michael were originally scheduled to perform, not Brooke. Michael had been telling his fans that he would be there, and Carly was the only Idol listed on the original announcment about the event, so Brooke filled in for Michael. Here’s the link to that announcement :

Or maybe all three of them were scheduled to perform? *shrug*
