Brooke White: “I Have Ten Songs Written…I Need to Write More”

Brooke White writes a New Years message to her fans in her latest MySpace blog.

She reflects back on the past year, and muses about the days ahead. In this excerpt, she explains that she’s set a New Year’s goal of writing 10 songs in the month of January to add to the 10 she’s written already:

I have some of my own plans, but if there is one thing I have learned, it is that plans are made to be broken. So my plans are flexible, not rigid… I mean I’m an artist, and so my plan is to make art… whatever that means. That being said, I have decided to set a particular goal, and by saying it out loud makes me more accountable… after all we are in the season of resolutions and goal settings. I have about ten songs written, a few of them I happen to like a lot actually. But I need more… I need to write more, SO my goal is to write ten songs in the month of January. This is going to be particularly difficult for me as I am great at starting and not super great at finishing. I often times wonder if I have A.D.D., probably. BUT I am putting a bit of that mental toughness to work, and going to buckle down and get to work, get to starting and get to finishing. I love music, but truth is writing is hard. Well it is for me, cause it’s personal, emotional and vulnerable. Not that it’s always my story I’m telling, but I still feel like in order to get the good stuff, you have to be willing to go diving for it, a little exhausting but usually very rewarding when truly sought after and discovered. They don’t all turn out great, but there are a few gems that turn up. These are songs that hopefully you will get to hear sometime in the near future so… wish me luck!

She also advises the Season 8 contestants, who are waiting to embark on the wild and crazy American Idol journey to “hang on.” And she thanks her fans.

In other news, Brooke is signed with Sanctuary Artist Management out of Los Angeles, according to their website. Other artists on their roster include Fleetwood Mac, Tommy Lee, ZZ Top and Lonestar.

  • I love Brooke. Great blog.

Excellent blog, I agree. She probably needs to write about 25-30 songs, since about 10-12 of them would make the album.

I don’t see a Brooke album until fall even still, since I doubt she will rush when she records it.

I love Brooke soooooo much. LOL. I want to hear ALL of those songs, I don’t care if they’re good or not… I can listen to her sing anything. Heh.

I’m pretty content with her not saying too much about anything, I believe she will state something when things become final. She’s writing songs which she will record soon, I’m fine with that.

And I think she signed with a pretty good management group. They have Fleetwood Mac, one of her favorites and great musical inspirations, so I think they understand how to work with an artist like her.

I wonder if in the end it will be good or bad that 19E passed on her? Knowing what happened with Kristy Lee, there are no guarantees either way.

Yeah, we’ll never know. It depends on the label you sign with, I think. But I don’t think anyone could’ve really gotten anywhere with the kind of promotion that KLC got. That whole thing is still a big question mark to me. If that’s what would’ve happened to Brooke if she was signed by 19, then I’m glad she wasn’t. I think that would’ve traumatized her or something, hah.

I actually don’t love Brooke…I find her to be second rate 1970’s. I love my 1970’s music in that vein but don’t actually want to relive them again with a second rate singer (yeah, I don’t really think she can sing). So I’m not one who would buy her music unless she really changed things for the better and I’m afraid she’s not about to do that.

  • KathyH:

I ADORE Brooke and I’m excited to hear what she says about the writing. She’s so honest. Can’t wait to hear those songs!

  • IGetCranked:

Brooke is so hauntingly beautiful in that picture! I hope she is able to do whatever she desires. I admire the type of person she seems to be.

  • Kona:

I didn’t come to appreciate Brooke until the AI tour, when I became a fan. I’m looking forward to hearing her music. Best of luck to Brooke. Yes, I agree she looks beautiful in that picture.

  • Little Boy Blue:

Brooke White has been made fun of for flubbing the beginning of YOU MUST LOVE ME ( Andrew Lloyd Webber night ).

I thought that was unfortunate because her studio version was EXCELLENT. Listen here :

I’d say that her recorded version is MUCH BETTER than Madonna’s.
