Canadian Idol 6! Episode 15 - Top 10 Results - VIDEO

Adam Castelli is eliminated.

Bottom 3: Mookie Morris, Sebastian Pigott and Adam Castelli.

The group number tonight, featuring some of David Bowie’s most well-known songs, was a bit of a mess, but it had it’s moments. Earl and Mookie, who performed like rock stars, were my favorites. I like the idea of splitting up the Idols up into groups and allowing them to play instruments.

Adam sure looked uncomfortable sitting between Katharine and Theo while Ben was calling out the Bottom 3. At that point, sitting between two of the judges favorites, he must have known he was in the bottom.

I’m disappointed that the quirky and talented Mookie wound up in the Bottom 3, but I’m not entirely surprised. His performance on Tuesday night was mediocre. I’m a little surprised that Sebastian hit the B3. I thought his people would go into voter overdrive after his horrifying performance. I have to keep reminding myself that CI operates differently than AI. I keep hearing about the influence of regional voting, and I have to admit I have not yet grasped the concept.

Adam had yet to pull out a memorable performance. It’s no wonder he was the first to go.

Who will be sent home tonight? If you live in Canada or on the border, tune into CTV at 8 PM ET to find out. Or, wait for igrecman to put up his videos HERE. I’ll post them after the jump as soon as I find them…

Video is UP after the JUMP…

Thanks mj. I’m watching. Groups didn’t really work for me.

  2. 2 Allison Jul 15th, 2008 at 8:57 pm

    The result wasn’t that surprising.

  3. 3 Dlynne Jul 15th, 2008 at 9:22 pm

I didn’t expect THAT bottom three. I guess that’s what happens when you live or die by regional voting. Not all that surprised by the final result, though.

  4. 4 JOJOSIE Jul 15th, 2008 at 9:25 pm

The only surprise was Mookie being in the bottom three. I’v heard the part of Canada that Mark is from will vote to keep him in. He’s another one I wouldn’t miss. We’ll just have to see what happens next week. I’ll be in Kansas City, Mo. next week but I know the videos will still be up if I can’t get to a computer there. Maybe I’ll have to take a side trip to Blue Springs (Cook fans will understand that)

  5. 5 LadyBeBop Jul 15th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Mark has already overstayed his welcome, but I have a feeling Drew will overstay his welcome as well, due to the regional voting.

I have the feeling the dream finale of Theo and Amberley won’t happen, strictly because I think both are from Alberta. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if Katharine is the last woman standing.

  6. 6 pj Jul 15th, 2008 at 10:06 pm

Well, I am sad Mookie was in the bottom 3. Canada, what the heck? The regional voting is insane. I can’t believe Mark is still there. Please explain.

  7. 7 primeminister Jul 15th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

For those who don’t want to watch the videos, the bottom three were Mookie, Sebastian, and Adam, with Adam eliminated.

Best moment of the night for me was Earl and Mookie’s atrocious group number. Earl needs to lay of the weed and remember his words! LOL.

  8. 8 J.S.G. Jul 15th, 2008 at 10:24 pm

So Mookie and Sebastien are both from the Greater Toronto Area which thinks it is Canda’s most cosmopolitan city, so no one there watches Canadian Idol.
Whereas everyone from Newfoundland and other parts of Atlantic Canada watch CI and will vote for Mark Day.

Brian Melo from Hamilton(bordering on the GTA) won last year, but Adam Castelli is also from Hamilton and he is gone because he couldn’t connect with the fans, at least he couldn’t connect with me and that motorcylcle gimmick really sucked especailly on David Bowie night.

So yearh, Mookie and Sebastien are in trouble unless they make a big splash.

I don’t recall anyone from the G.T.A. ever having a major impact on CI.

  9. 9 gingerly Jul 15th, 2008 at 10:26 pm

I was ok with who went home. I still don’t get regional voting. I’ve never concerned myself on American Idol what state somebody is from. In fact, there’s somebody on SYTYCD who is from the same town as me and I’m not concerned.

  10. 10 skylight1219 Jul 15th, 2008 at 10:26 pm

I guess I was wrong that they don’t have to do their swan song when they are eliminated from CI. They sure get to the results quickly.

  11. 11 annoula Jul 15th, 2008 at 10:37 pm

    I’m writing random notes as I watch…

Did everyone get a haircut today?

What’s with Katherine’s pimp-ish spot in the group number?

Of the three group numbers, the third one was the best, but did they mess up the words or something?

Oohhh…so Julie Black was their mentor…wouldn’t it be so much cooler if Bowie had been their mentor?

Love Earl in the green hat.

Wow. I really don’t like this location-determining-votes thing Canada has going. It’s all well and good to be supportive of the people that come from your home town, but if they suck, or if someone out there is better…is that really fair?

Well, that’s what you get for thinking that driving a motorcycle onto the stage is going to make you cool.

    I miss Oliver. :(

Classic rock songs from artists who are dead? Um, ok. How are we going to define “classic rock songs?” I have to say that the music on CI is more of my taste than the stuff on AI.

  12. 12 marco5ny Jul 15th, 2008 at 11:11 pm

Three residents of Ontario all in the bottom three. Interesting. Well Adam was the only performer left who had previously been in the bottom three so his days were numberd. Nice guy but he can’t really sing and the motorcycle bit really did come off as a gimmick. Sebastian was straight up awful. Even if you were a fan of his previous performances, Mookie was boring.

Mark may have been worse but I don’t see the bottom three this week as a raging injustice based on the performances.

Wow those group numbers were pretty bad.

  13. 13 lilbrusc102 Jul 15th, 2008 at 11:19 pm

hahaha, I loved the Earl/Mookie/Drew number….it was def. fun, despite (and maybe because) of the mess ups!

Mookie in the bottom 3??? Boo. I’m not liking this whole regional voting thing, though I guess its the same in Latin American Idol where people vote by country…

maybe I should call up my uncle and cousins in Canada and convince them to vote…

  14. 14 primeminister Jul 15th, 2008 at 11:28 pm

hahaha, I loved the Earl/Mookie/Drew number….it was def. fun, despite (and maybe because) of the mess ups!

LOL I totally agree. They cracked me up (no pun intended ;)).

  15. 15 foxydonna Jul 15th, 2008 at 11:32 pm

I love that they can play their instruments in the group numbers. AI really needs to loosen up on that. It was a hot mess, but entertaining nonetheless. I can’t believe I watched that whole thing just to see Earl, but I did. I finally figured it out. He reminds me of a guy I used to go out with… my “in between relationships ” guy. He looks and sounds just like him (only a bit younger). That would explain the attraction, maybe?

  16. 16 maeflower Jul 15th, 2008 at 11:42 pm

I spent most of my time voting for Earl last night, until my mother (who I’m visiting) begged me to throw some votes to Drew. We were worried he’d go in the place of Adam or Mark, but he didn’t end up in the bottom 3!!! My 50ish votes DID make a difference!!!
Earl FTW!!! Those group numbers were hilarious! Mind you, they still sounded better than AI group numbers :)
ps. mj, it’s ADAM, not Anthony :)

  17. 17 skylight1219 Jul 16th, 2008 at 12:23 am

Mark Day is VFTW pick on CI. I don’t agree that their group numbers are better than the ones on AI. I do, however, like the fact that they allow them to play instruments during them.

  18. 18 redge_dc Jul 16th, 2008 at 12:35 am

I like the group numbers for this results show. I really liked the first one but Adam shouldn’t bring a guitar unless he’s planning on using it. That’s pretty much my one major gripe with allowing the contestants to play instruments. They’re using it as a prop.

I wasn’t particularly surprised with the bottom 3. But, I really don’t get why Drew was safe. He had the first spot and he was boring (for me).

Sebastian looked really good tonight. I like the new haircut.

Both Mookie and Sebastian need to do really well next week since I like both of them.

  19. 19 movin2thabeet Jul 16th, 2008 at 1:04 am

The consequences of this regional voting really detract from the show. Mookie in the bottom three? That was the most disturbing result of the night. I would place at least 5 others in that place first. The fact that Mark Day has not been in the bottom three at all, makes me take this show much less seriously. Cause obviously, the guy doesn’t have the voice or talent to be a rock star/pop singer. Comedy/variety show host? Definitely. But this is not Canada’s Next Comedy Star. It does seem like he is this year’s Sanjaya. The only consolation is that the ones that leave early would not have made it to the top anyway. But they would go further. Oh well. He is good for comic relief (and fuming).

  20. 20 purplesmile Jul 16th, 2008 at 1:28 am

    Mookie almost got eliminated?!? Nooooo!

  21. 21 1girlarmy Jul 16th, 2008 at 2:26 am

I too was really surprised at Mookie being in the bottom three, that’s just crazy! I wasn’t surprised about Sebastian :-(.

I’m so glad that they both stayed or I probably would have lost any motivation to keep watching this show.

The regional thing sucks, thank God AI is not like that!

I didn’t mind the group performances, I agree they were still better than any group sings on AI.

I’m happy Adam went, I would have preferred Mark to go obviously, but at the very least his utter atrociousness is far more amusing than Adam’s inability to sing on key. I don’t hate him for the motorcycle thing though, I can see how all of these contestants are reduced to coming up with gimmicks because the voting is so mercurial.

    I miss Oliver too!

Yay for haircuts! I thought Theo looked great and I really didn’t think it was humanly possible for Sebastian to look any hotter, apparently I was wrong!

  22. 22 littlepark Jul 16th, 2008 at 9:23 am

Mark has already overstayed his welcome, but I have a feeling Drew will overstay his welcome as well, due to the regional voting.

I don’t see how Drew benefits from regional voting. Collingwood is not a big town - population about 17,000. I don’t think hes’ going to last long, unless he steps it up.

    Mark on the other hand…

National Post: Canadian Idol: Second Opinion – It’s alive!!

This Canadian Idol cynic got to watch the performance show live, and loved it.

An excerpt for the Earl fans out there:

    - To my ears Earl Stevenson was totally spectacular! Emily said Earl really stepped it up with his version of Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide.

It’s hard to hear on television but Earl received the most enthusiastic post-performance applause of any of the singers. Everyone loves Earl.

    The boy’s dope.

  24. 24 primeminister Jul 16th, 2008 at 10:18 am

I don’t know when I suddenly became so Earl obsessed, but here’s another original song that I found on his band’s PureVolume page. It’s called “Lay Me Down.”

  25. 25 itsalleternal Jul 16th, 2008 at 12:04 pm

The Toronto area doesn’t really care about Canadian Idol, since they think they are just a bunch of amateurs that don’t represent Canada or the world. I know the producers have tried to pimp several Toronto contestants but that doesn’t work. IMO they should focus on their strengths.

Amberly, Drew, Earl, Mitch, Mark and Theo were safe simply because they represent areas that care. I think those will be the top 6, rightfully or wrongfully.

  26. 26 Frogpond Jul 16th, 2008 at 4:34 pm

I was shocked to see Mookie in bottom 3 .The other 2 not so much .

I only really care about Earl and to a lesser extint Mookie

  27. 27 abbynormal Jul 16th, 2008 at 6:11 pm

Well I for one was not surprised that Mookie was in the bottom 3. He really can’t sing, only growl. When he sings a more rock style song he’s vastly better. TMWSTW is a song you have to have an actual voice to sing, and he simply does not. Here is how that song should be sung…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6juCiinBsMk&feature=related

Adam is very talented, but he’s far too serious and mature for this show. The kids simply didn’t connect to him. He showed fantastic promise in the audition rounds, but this is not the format for him to shine.

Theo should win, but is he from an area that normally doesn’t vote much? I think his talent will garner votes from all regions of Canada, he’s simply that good.

Amberley was weak in both her performance this week, and in the group numbers, and Kat far outsung and out performed her…but Amberley is stunning looking and that could get her very far. I feel her voice is very limited…in a good way I suppose. I think Carly was far better at the quirky thing and probably should have won last year, Brian winning is still a mystery to me.

  28. 28 foxydonna Jul 16th, 2008 at 6:39 pm

I am also becoming Earl-obsessed primeminister. It’s strange. I’ve never watched CI before, haven’t been craaazzy about any AI contestant since Taylor, and see pretty much no future for the CI winner, but still, I am totally hooked. I’m happy about that, actually. It’s so much more fun to watch when you actually give a shit about a contestant. And no, while I loved Cook on AI, I did not get attached or obsessed.

  29. 29 palais Jul 16th, 2008 at 8:17 pm

Theo should win, but is he from an area that normally doesn’t vote much? I think his talent will garner votes from all regions of Canada, he’s simply that good.

While Theo’s talent alone should be enough ( I really hope so), he does come from Alberta, which votes pretty heavily ( I should know, I live there, And right now, I’m splitting my votes four ways between Theo and Earl, and non-Prairie boys Mookie and Mitch). Of the previous five winners, two have come from the Calgary, Alberta area, and last year’s runner up was from Red Deer ( about an hour and a half north of Calgary). Theo has the blessing of talent and living in the right place.

  30. 30 Toonces74 Jul 16th, 2008 at 8:58 pm

The only regional voting I’m aware of in the states is in Alabama - where Taylor Hicks, Bo Bice and Reuben Studdard are from. I noticed that for the last two years, no one from Alabama has been on AI, and I don’t think it’s a coincidence.

AI will probably not have another Alabama resident on the show, unless they really want that person to win.

  31. 31 NOLA Jul 16th, 2008 at 11:28 pm

    OH, CANADA!!!!!!!

    I’ll have what you’re smokin’!

Sex only sells for so long. Ya sent the wrong Pigott bro home.
Who in the hell is voting for Marky Mark?
Mookie in the bottom 3? What’s up with that?

  32. 32 Duke Jul 18th, 2008 at 12:13 am

man, id take sanjaya over mark day any day (no pun intended) of the week. poor canadians who have to listen to him. there voting is alll mssed up. i remember last year when a bunch of good people (tyler mulendor) got eliminated. thats why i find it hard to follow CI- my favs go soo early. i wish the show was just fixed.
