Woah, what happened to Anne Murray’s voice? She used to have this velvety-smooth alto, now it’s all cracked and hoarse. Maybe she’s not feeling well. Her performances tonight were not good. Glad to hear she’s such a legend in Canada. Folks in America forgot all about her around 1980 or so. By the way, none of the group medley performances impressed me.
Jordin Sparks was her usual effervescent self as she performed her single, “One Step at a Time”.
I’m not surprised Earl Stevenson was eliminated last night. Thing is, Earl wasn’t very good this week. Don’t know what was going on with him. But something in both performances was really off. Even his sing out was a little weird. A train? A what? I think his attempt at audience participation confused the crowd a little. Earl’s past performances were utterly in the moment, but this week, it was like Earl decided to take a little vacation. In the middle of his performances. That’s not good.
Some fans are suggesting that Earl, a songwriter, got sick of singing other people’s songs. Maybe he saw the prize looming and decided he didn’t want it. I don’t know. I hope his upcoming interviews shed some light on where his head is at. I’m going to miss the unique rock/soul stylings Earl brought to the show. I was hoping to see him in the finale.
As for the three that are left. Theo has just got to win. I know Canadian Idol isn’t a huge franchise like AI, but what little credibility it has is going to be lost if Theo doesn’t take it all. Both Drew Wright and Mitch MacDonald appear to have huge regional fan bases. And Drew has been improving over these weeks. I think he’s been picking up fans along the way. The idea of a Mitch/Drew final two does not seem that far-fetched to me. Horrible, but not far fetched.

I don’t really think VFTW has that much power, but I’m with them now. Not that I can vote.
I haven’t watched but I really knew Earl was going home. Now I have no reason to watch anymore. I have his myspace to watch. It’s better than anybody ever on Canadian Idol ever hoped to do. The man is hugely talented. It baffles me to think he’s only been into music for a couple of years. As much as I love David Cook (and that’s an entire whole bunch), Earl’s songwriting skills make his laughable (In my not so humble opinion).
Oh sadness!!!! Why does my favorite always leave 4th?!? Not that I’m surprised, but I don’t think we’re getting what we deserve or anything. People just don’t vote much in Canada (or watch, hehe). That might be it for me… I’m just happy Earl was discovered on this show and we’ll get to see him around in the years to come.
I am a definite Earl fan, BUT…I thought something was strangely off about his performances last night - nerves. maybe? It was not a good night to have an off night, because Theo finally decidedto step away from the piano (literally) and look more like a pop star, Drew had at least one very good performance, and Mitch has a fan base not unlike Archie’s from AI7 - they love him and will dial no matter what.
What the hell is going on? I haven’t been able to watch the show yet since my audio on my computer is screwed right now. I can’t believe this, Mitch is in the top 3??? EARL, not EARL, he is so top 2. Well Theo needs to win this thing, I hope at least. I don’t get Drew. Mitch has got to go finally.
This just sucks.
Are you freaking kidding me? I don’t know what to say. Actually I do. Who in the world is freaking voting for Mitch? (Disclaimer: If you are a Mitch fan, you have every right to vote for him, and I respect your opinion. I’m just very angry right now).
I’m so upset, next week is Bryan Adams week, and Earl won’t be there. I’m not even going to watch. Ugh.
Oh well. I just have to be patient for January, for AI.
Oh man. I can’t believe Earl is gone. First Mookie, now Earl. I just can’t get over it.
I honestly feel as somebody posted (I think last night) that Earl was tired of singing other people’s songs. I honestly think he didn’t want to do this anymore. I didn’t see that his heart was in it and I can’t say that I blame him.
I voted for Earl with 2 phones the whole 2 hours and oddly enough, I got at least 6 messages informing me of “technical difficulties” with the voting lines. I’m not buying that Earl received the least votes because I know that he picked up some of Mookies votes, according to some of Mookie’s fans.
The show lost the only 2 spicy performers and is left with 3 bland blahs.
I am not watching the rest of the show, but I’ll be looking out for Mookie and Earl’s progress, the only 2 true stars the show had to offer.
Also, during Earl’s sing out, I was disappointed to see people’s chilled reactions as he was trying to get them involved making a train and just having fun.

Oh gosh. gingerly, I can’t find Earl’s myspace. I can’t believe this crap either. I liked Earl, Mookie, and Theo. But it sure seemed like an ARTIST had a better chance on CI than on AI. And I LOVE David Cook’s songwriting. Can someone point me to Earl and Mookie on myspace? I guess my search skills are worthless…I tried…. Sigh. So I guess I’d vote for Theo now, if I lived in Canada…darnit.
Ridiculous. But I’ve heard that this often happens on CI with regional voting being really strong. Still, Earl was my main reason for watching and while I’ll certainly see it through to the bitter end, I could care less who wins it now. I think Drew just might pull it off. Mitch as the winner - what a farce!

boo, first Mookie and now Earl….Canada doesn’t seem to appreciate my faves! I really thought at least one of them would make the finale, but that was before I realized how wacked out the voting was….
Mitch gets more old to me every week yet he’s still around. I’m quite displeased at not only this result but the voting in general for Canadian Idol. I have enjoyed the show but have been frustrated numerous times this season. Oh well at this point why not give Mitch the CI6 Crown I guess?

Probably out of curiosity I’ll check out who goes home next week and who’s in the top 2. Unless I see in the comments that someone else who liked Mookie and Earl say that Theo has an exceptionally excellent performance one of the next two weeks, I see no reason that I would enjoy watching.
Too bad, so sad! My condolences to those Canadians who liked Earl and Mookie and spent your time voting for them. I’ll be interested to see what kind of stars they become in the future.

Yup, that’s Earl’s and I didn’t find Mookie’s worth bothering with. I totally love Mookie for his vibe but his original music to me was less than meh. To me, David Cook’s original music was good. Earl Stevenson’s original music is amazing. That’s just me, however, and I’m sure many would disagree. I’m all right with that :)
Well, I’m disappointed to see Earl go. The two most interesting performers leave in back-to-back weeks. Ugh.
I fully expect to see the confetti raining down on Mitch’s head as the new Canadian Idol in a couple of weeks (which would be an absolute joke). I hope I’m wrong.

this is Mookie’s link…his stuff has a VERY new wave/indie rock vibe….you can tell he idolizes Julian Casablancas from The Strokes….since I’m pretty much in love with Jules, I love it, but its probably not as accessible a sound as Earl’s (amazing!) originals.

I live in Mitch’s home Province. I don’t think he’ll take the title, but I do think he’ll make it to the final 2 (though not deservedly). CI is all about regional voting and Mitch has been the only East Coast contestant in the running for a few weeks.
Does anyone remember Gary Beals from Season 1? He’s also from my home Province and he made it all the way to the top 2. Here’s one more: Rex Goudie – another East Coaster who couldn’t sing, but made it all the way to Top 2. I rest my case.
IMO, the only legitimate winner since CI began was Kalan Porter. No one has touched him since.

I went to college in Canada, and I heard a lot of Anne Murray on the radio back then. So I watched the videos. It’s so funny to see these clips and read the posts when you have no idea who anyone is, not even the judges or the host. Everyone seems so upset about something that doesn’t seem that upsetting. (it’s given me some perspective on how crazy we are with American Idol.)
I guess I’d better go back and see what Earl sang so I’ll understand what’s gotten under everyone’s skin.
BTW–Anne Murray looked great, seemed ageless, but also seems to have about 6 notes left in her range. Ouch. Jordin Sparks sounded good and looked beautiful as usual. But she’s not really fooling anyone with the 50’s party dresses. If she lost a few lbs, she could include more variety in her wardrobe.

I’m not sure it’s all about regional voting. A cute guy with a charming style and less than conventional singing voice can often make it pretty far on these things. Just last year you had Jaydee in CI and Blake on AI. And the squeals of delight when Mitch was introduced prove that he’s got some appeal. I liked Earl a lot but he’s not the type to win this thing. And I don’t think Mitch will win either. Looks and charm might get you to number 2, but it doesn’t get you the win. The final three are all a bit bland though.
I dunno. Earl seemed relieved to be done with the whole thing. Thanks for the link to his myspace. Mookie’s is essentially blank.

I finally got audio, thank goodness. I can’t believe this, EARL should be in the top 2 but he was really off last night. Theo was spectacular and Drew was not too bad. What’s up with the audience not wanting to do a train, I would totally dance with Earl, he seems to be such a fun guy. Oh well another one bites the dust. Theo all the way! It will be a Theo/Drew finale, so obvious now, or not? Will Mitch ever go? He is adorable but his voice is just too strange a times. I love both of Theo’s song choices this week. Earl’s was good too but he was just not in it for some reason.

as for this show… i am canadian but have never gotten into cdn idol till last year and this (mainly because i can’t stand ben and the judges lol)… but losing mookie and earl :(
earl should have done more songs along the lines of his myspace songs or like when he did ryan adams song “two” HE HAS AN AWESOME Soulful voice… but i think the hinky dancin around and stuff lost him votes LOVE ME SOME EARL

Earl’s original music is awesome, but it’s not formatted for iTunes. (Mookie’s is.) Am I just an idiot, or is there a way to convert the files from Windows to iTunes format?
I just emailed Earl and asked him if he plans to offer his music on iTunes. He really deserves to be paid for his music. Do CI contestants sign their lives away the way AI contestants do?
