Wow mj, thanks for posting these! I never thought I’d watch anything from Canadian Idol, but very impressive! The only one that didn’t do much for me was “Fly Like an Eagle”.
I’ve never heard much from Coldplay, but I think I’m going to have to check them out, such a beautiful song.
I really loved the rendition of “Heard it on the Grapevine” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” by CCR was awesome too!
Thanks again! Now I’m going to check out the results. Very interesting format BTW for top 24.

Oh no! An error message comes up for the “results”. I’ll try to check it out later.

cookcricket, try this link for the results:

As for the new results format, I don’t know if CI is going to do this every week. Personally, I hope they do but so far, I haven’t heard or read anything that indicates this week’s showcase is more than just a one-time event.

Thanks RemusL! Now I feel a little silly because I thought these performances was the actual competition. Still very impressive! I’ll be watching to see if they do this results format again, and may have to check out some of the later shows (top 10?) There are def. some very good artists in this group!

Thanks for the above videos too! Are you from Canada?

cookcricket, yes I’m from the Toronto area. We tend to get a little Idol crazy from January through September with AI and CI running back-to-back. Then there’s Australian Idol which takes place from August to November. Not sure if mj would want to cover yet another Idol show though, but that would effectively take care of the rest of the year till AI8 starts in January ‘09. :laugh_tb:

Favorite Group Performances: Have You Ever Seen the Rain (better than results night), Yellow

Least Favorite Group Performances: Old Time Rock and Roll (all that growling was a little scary), Fly Eagle (style over substance), Imagine (oversung)

Stand Out Individuals: Martin, Jessica, Amberly, Theo

I was thinking no one should ever covetr Coldplay til I heard Amberley Thiessen sing “Yellow.’
And if Jessica Shepherd decides to replace Lindsay Barr as the ‘rocker chick,’ she will be in the top 10.

Thanks Remusl for finding and thanks MJ for posting these videos.

That for me really showcased who who left did indeed leave.

I really liked Yellow both nights.

YAY!!! for Amberly love. I don’t know why I <3 her so much because her voice isn’t something I’d normally gravitate toward. Maybe her song choices? She’s been somebody I wanted to see since the auditions. There’s quite a few guys I am digging right now so we will see how it goes…

Fabulous, thanks for the vids. I see why they had to do that on the result show. These guys are great! I so glad that the Lindsay Robins girl is gone, she was really horrid both nights, she ruined the group song, it would of sounded better with the 3 guys. I am loving Earl, Mookie, Paul, Martin, Amberly, Drew, Mitch (yes Mitch, I like his sweet voice), Sebastian, Theo and even Gary at times. Geez that is a lot, great group of singers. I am glad Gary toned it down with the result show performance, he can really sing if he would just sing. Hey that means Amberly will have a big tour bus by herself, lol! Nah! I am sure Katherine and Jessica may make it too.

Sadly, CI has never had a post-competition Idol tour like what AI does every year. There was talk of a possible tour after season 1 concluded but the idea quickly fizzled.

One of the reasons is because the show finishes in mid September and not before summer vacation like AI. Also, there has always been some doubt as to whether such a concert tour would sell.

The closest CI has come to a full tour has been season 5 doing a Top 3 tour. After season 3, the Top 2 did tour together but it took place after both of their respective albums were released. The joint tour was likely conceived only because the two of them (Melissa O’Neil & Rex Goudie) were actually dating. They had become a couple during the course of the show but kept their relationship a secret till after their season was over.

I really liked Adam and Lindsay Barr’s “In the Midnight Hour”. If only Lindsay Barr performed like this during the performance night, she might still be in the competition. I really liked her during the auditions but she disappointed me during the performance show.

Also really liked “Old Time Rock and Roll”. The rest were great as well. However, I liked Sebastian, Oliver, and Tetiana more on the results show.

Oh wow, I didn’t even know they performed at the Rivoli! I could have gone, too! :( Oh well, thanks for the vids!
