Carly Smithson and The Fallen – Register for a Free Download – Listen to a Stream of “Bury Me Alive”

The website for Carly Smithson’s new band, The Fallen, is now live.

If you’d like to hear The Fallen’s new single, “Bury Me Alive”, sooner rather than later,   be one of the first 10,000 to sign up for their newsletter.   You can do that right HERE.

The news broke Friday that Carly would be joining forces with ex-members of the band Evanescence to form the brand new group.

A news conference and live performance from Carly and the band is reportedly scheduled for today.   Stay tuned for news about that.

UPDATED: I added video from today’s press conference (via Idoltracker) where the band performed their single “Bury Me Alive”. Good luck to Carly emerging from the shadow of Amy Lee. The song sounds very Evanescence-ish.

  • Listen to the studio version at the band’s My Space HERE.

Apparently, the response to the free download was overwhelming. The download for those who registered early won’t be available til later tonight. See video of Carly explaining after the jump…

WOW! That’s one bayaad beotch!! Um, Amy WHO!?!?

  • fujisaku:

Really sounds like Amy in most part. I hope Carly won’t suffer the comparison..(I bet she will, though…)

I think ppl give Amy to much credit for Evanescence. I really like the first album, but I don’t like the second. Some songs from the later album even copy notes from the ones in the first album! Evanescence is not as good as it used to be, because it has lost the songwriter.

Honestly, if I have to choose between Evanescence and The Fallen now, I’ll choose to listen to The Fallen.

I think Carly Smithson just found a home and I’m happy for her. She has always, always wanted to be in a rock band and now she has a place to exercise that amazing voice to its fullest extent. Which is exactly the way that she likes it.

Honestly, I don’t think she “suffers in comparison” to Amy Lee vocally…at all. Carly’s songwriting ability is still an unknown, but maybe she won’t need that in this arrangement.

This whole thing kind of intrigues me. I never knew much about Evanescence-in fact until Carly sang, “Bring Me to Life” on tour. LOL.

So was the first big album with these three guys? Did Ben Moody then leave after that first album because Amy Lee wanted to progress? Therefore, are there old Evanescence fans who are waiting for this sound again?

    I know I like it a lot!

It will be very interesting to see how it goes from here. I know when I listened earlier, there were 1 thousand some plays and now there are 5 thousand plus plays. I’ll be interested to see how this has increased again tomorrow.

Also interesting to me…This is all happening the day before MJ’s album drops. So how will it bode for each of them…to be continued…lol.

I loved Amy Lee and Evanesence. I’ve loved several of their past songs, I didn’t even pay attention to which album they were on. When I first heard Carly sing on the Idol tour, the very first thing I said to my sister was, “OMG, she sounds just like Amy Lee!” (not a bad thing in my book)

Point being: I loved Evanesence. I loved Carly. I now love the Fallen. Who is playing instruments in the background make no difference to me. I love that sound, and Carly has one bad-ass rock voice. I wish her all the best, because I think she got shafted last year.

  • Dr. Tracey:

She sounds like Carly Smithson singing like Amy Lee so if they were trying to recreate that sound they succeeded.

  • alxsavage:

I love it, and I’m really excited for Carly. Yes, I sound like a biased fangirl and probably, I am.

About the comparissons…where, most of them were Evanescence after all and it’s still Moody’s sound. And Carly’s vocals? They have always been compared to Amy Lee anyway.

I’ll admit it, the one thing that I don’t like about this band, is its name. However, I have a good feeling about their future, I really want Carly to succeed and I wish them the best luck in the world.

  • WestiesRule:

I love it! You go Carley!

  • Well, I actually tried registering but I kept getting the message that my birth date was entered incorrectly or my email was entered incorrectly or the security code was entered incorrectly or all three. Anyone else have this problem?

I really like the song though.

  • mahrikka:

I’m so happy for Carly! This band is a great match for her voice, and I look forward to more.

  • annabelina:

Hm … After hearing the single, I pretty much have the same mixed feelings I did when I heard about the project …

As a Carly fan, I think this music suits her, and I’m glad she took this path. As an Evanescence fan, I don’t care for her voice much at all. I like the song. The problem is that I can hear the distinct influence of Ben Moody, which I adore, but I want Amy Lee’s voice to it. The combination of it is what made Evanescence so amazing. Obviously I’m being biased. If I hadn’t been such a huge fan of Evanescence, I would probably be able to enjoy it just fine, but as it is, it’s lacking for me. I much prefer Amy’s voice to Carly’s. *shrug* I’ll buy the album (an actual hard copy) if they ever come out with one, but it’s not something I’d run out to buy right away to be honest. Best of luck to them though!

  • Margaux:

Congratulations Carly. I’m so happy the band is giving her the opportunity to make the music she wants to make. I don’t think a solo female rocker with the American Idol label would be allowed to make this record. Carly may have looked at Kelly Clarkson’s career and gulped.

I’m not that familiar with Evanescence, I don’t usually buy this type of rock, usually prefer it bluesy and grooving, or straight ahead classic. But I love Carly’s voice, so this works for me.

  • sma11ie:

Anyone get an email yet? Thought they’d have ironed out the technical kinks by now…

  • 2dogs:

So glad Carly is moving forward in her career. I think a rock band is great fit for her. I

The problem is that I can hear the distinct influence of Ben Moody, which I adore, but I want Amy Leeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice to it.

What Amy has is a haunting, ethereal quality to her voice that Carly doesn’t. When I heard Carly was performing BMTL on the AI tour, I thought it would end up being be a fantastic cover for her. But, surprisingly it didn’t work for me when I heard it live, for the reason I stated.

I’ve always thought Carly sounds a bit like Grace Slick. And you can hear that creep in at times in this new song.

That being said, she sounded a lot more convincing on the youtube video of the live performance they put on for the press. I have the feeling The Fallen will be one hell of a live act.

They just need to take more care in the studio when they track Carly’s vocals on future songs, and make sure the Grace Slick and Anne Wilson in her isn’t permeating her voice recordings. Because that kind of singing doesn’t work at all for this type of music.

I tried to register as well. I kept getting an error message about my mobile phone number. Since I don’t give that out to anyone except close family and friends I guess I won’t be getting the free download.

From what I’ve been able to listen to on the link, it is very much an Evanescence kinda thing to it. I’m good with that – I liked them. Though I think Carly has a more bluesy undertone to her voice than Amy. Though I haven’t listened to Evanescence in a while, so I could be off base there.

  • golcook:

Ok, so Amy thought Ben was going to leave and that’s it?

Nope, Ben was probably wrong hiding so much time and letting Amy took the sound of Evanescence into its 2nd album, now he’s back and took that same sound (his sound BTW), maybe it hasn’t evolved so much, but it’s a winners formula.

Back in those days when Ben Moody left, the battle was just about 2 people, but now we are going to see a battle between 2 musicians that still have some resentment, so let the music speak.
