Carly Smithson to Sign a Record Contract?

In this interview, Carly Smithson hints to a reporter from the Grand Rapids Press, that there are good things to come once the Idol tour is over:

“I can’t really talk about it yet,” she said, “but I did get some pretty good news the other day” regarding a recording contract.

Can we expect an announcement sooner rather than later about a record deal for Carly?  If Carly is indeed about to sign a deal, she’ll be the 4th Idol from Season 7 to have signed a record contract.  The others are the winner and runner-up, David Cook and David Archuleta, and 7th place finisher Kristy Lee Cook.  Michael Johns, 8th place, is currently working on a record and plans to release independently.

I am so happy to hear this news of a possible record deal. Carly is so talented and she will make a great album. I can’t wait to hear more details soon!!!

So, if Carly does indeed have a record deal (are we talking about major here?), when will she be able to talk about it? After the tour ends? Later?

Michael Johns said something about 6 months post finale in which he wouldn’t put anything out, had 19 not released him from the contract. I wonder if that’s how long Carly will have to wait to release her first single.

Yay for Carly. I hope it’s true. A voice like hers has to be heard.

I think it is true because it was also posted on her official myspace page that’s run by her family. I don’t think she has finalized the record deal yet, but she’s very close. I bet she’s about to burst not being able to talk about it yet. Hopefully we’ll hear more details soon.

So happy for Carly. I know that sometimes they wait and see what contestants do during the tour and what the “crowd” reaction is before offering a record deal. I think that is what happened to Blake Lewis last season. He wasn’t offered a record deal even though he placed 2nd until towards the end of the tour.

Great for Carly. I hope that her next CD will be successful for her. I don’t enjoy many female singers so I won’t be buying her CD, but I really wish her well.

This is great news! I hope she makes it really big because I truly believe that singing is in her very soul and it is so refreshing to see her and most of the other contestants this year get their shot because of this. I’m tired of the trend of actors and actresses on the airwaves and people who just have a look. These kids this year have artistry and heart! You go girl!

This is fantastic news! I was at both KC shows this weekend and Carly was AMAZING! BTW, she said tyesterday that she and the other Idols (minus the two Davids) were released from their contract with 19 four days ago… and that none of them are signed yet.

I was pretty sure that Carly would be signed so am not surprised but happy for her. I was so impressed by her voice when I saw her in concert, even more so than the show where I don’t think she was at her best.
