  • The song is super fun. I tend to fall for something more like So Small with some weight to it, but this is a fun juke box and a beer number.

I’m going to be that –aside from the fact you and she’d get tired if everything were the same texture–she’s got a target going. The Sassy Boots songs like Last Name, Cowboy Casanova and Before He Cheats help bring in the guys as well as girls. Also let guys give a reason for buying her records without admitting they weep in their trucks to I Know You Won’t.

  • “I ask in all sincerity: what makes THIS a country song? Because it’s got the word ‘cowboy’ in it?”

The production may owe more to Def Leppard than country but the actual tune has a honky tonk line dancing feel to it.

Her concert versions of this have been more lively but I still enjoyed the performance.

  • She’s a country sweetie! Maturin, I agree with you on the juke box/beer number thing! Keep it going Carrie……

  • I ask in all sincerity: what makes THIS a country song? Because it’s got the word ‘cowboy’ in it?

The song itself could be Country, but the heavy-sounding instrumentation used here is no more Country than if a Bach chamber music group had accompanied Carrie.

A lot of so-called Country these days is Country in name only. Much of it totally lacks authentic ingredients for the genre.

  • To be fair, Letterman’s stage is TINY. I don’t often see his musical guests move around much. Carrie was aight, but I was watching her fiddle player. He’s awesome (and hot.) Tbh, I actually like this song better than Before He Cheats, but I’m not much of a country music person, so…

looked great from the neck up.

Heh, actually it was the sleeves that bugged me. Or whatever those scarfy things were hanging off her shoulders. I wanted to take a scissor and snip them off. Otherwise, the super short dress paired with the superhero slash hooker knee to thigh high boots is pretty on trend.

LOL Why are all your comments so worth quoting?

That was a great vocal performance. It doesn’t sound like an easy song to sing, but she killed it.

  • I like Carrie. She sounds great as always, and while I don’t always love her style, I think she looks fine there. She’s no dancer, but it wasn’t necessary for the Letterman stage.

So what does it say about David Cook that he openly admits to loving songs like I Know You Won’t? Haha, then again, this is the guy who also admits to loving sappy/weepy Sarah McLachlan songs, so I’m pretty sure there’s no surprise there =P. (For the record, I like Sarah McLachlan heh).

  • Will we get to watch her appearance at the GMA, mj ? :)

  • Wow! Carrie sounds incredible in that clip. Totally nailed that song. Good for her. This, indeed, is Carrie Underwood week. The other Idols should just watch her as she goes. Heh. Go Carrie.

  • INCREDIBLE! This is going to be a week of awesome things from Carrie. I love this side of Carrie, and she performs it really well. Other Idol’s, TAKE NOTES. This is how it is done.

  • She sounded fantastic. Love her.

  • Reflections On Life

A great live vocal performance. She really comes across as having an ethical earnestness to give her audience a top-notch vocal delivery. I like that attitude about her, her commitment to the song, the vocals, and us.

ITA that CC deserves a little walking-with-attitude around the stage, but I just don’t think that’s Carrie’s thing, and frankly I’m ok that. Does every singer have to be a dancer too? Many country singers just stand still or sit on a stool.

I spend the entire performance dreading that we’re going to get an inadvertent crotch shot.

Don’t worry. She’s old-school. She most likely has tap pants on underneath all those mini-dresses she wears. She isn’t gonna let you see anything she doesn’t want you to.

She seems like she’s really reaching, even straining, to hit those notes with all the belting power she has. If she wants to be a singer with a long career, she’ll need to pack her live shows with songs that don’t tax her vocal chords so much. (i.e. look at what’s happened to mariah carey’s voice).

  • Love Carrie and loved the performance … and I really enjoy this song.

I find it endearing that with all her success and how polished she’s become, she’s maintained that ‘washing machine agitator’ dance move when she sings.
