Carrie Underwood - Just a Dream - VIDEO

Watch the video for Carrie Underwood’s latest single “Just A Dream” after the jump. It’s currently #25 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. The video has a vintage 60’s thing going. Carrie’s cool demeanor allows her to carry off the period mod look very well.

The big syrupy ballad may tug on your heartstrings. Unless your a grumpy cynic like me. Heh.

I just realized what’s going on with this. It’s set in the 60s to imply a Vietnam scenario, not Iraq, so Republicans won’t be offended. Incredible. Well, I guess good girl Carrie Underwood wouldn’t be bold enough to champion the woes of women who have lost their men in the Middle East.

I was going to ETA that thought into my recap, but then I didn’t. Yeah, the video is set in the 60’s to keep it from being politically charged. I’m sure the label made that decision. Carrie probably had nothing to do with it.

Well, when I saw it, the first thing that came to my mind WAS Iraq. Set in the 60s or not, it’s a rather timeless story, I think.

I think you’re probably right, mj, particularly considering this is an election season. But, the feelings expressed in the song and the video are pretty universal no matter what war is being referenced, so the point is made and most people will connect it with what is going on today anyway.

ETA: Most of Carrie’s younger fans won’t have Vietnam as a point of reference anyway!

The video is better than the song. I’ve really been disappointed with Carnival Ride, in general, I honestly was expecting more from Carrie on this disc. Last Name was pure trash, this one is better but still not great.

I agree that it’s timeless. Set in the 60s or not, it’s what many women are going through right now. Maybe setting it in the past is commenting on the fact that we keep letting our leaders get us into these things and then our families have to pay the price.

I didn’t think the song was that great, either, but the video is interesting.

What did they put on her eyelashes? It looks like 5 or 6 sets of fake eyelashes. She’s so pretty, I don’t get it. That being said although it is not my cup of tea, I am sure it will be a big hit, like everything Carrie comes out with.

I watched it and never realized it was set in the past! Now, of course, I see it, but I totally thought it was now.

Dressed like that, with the heavy eyeliner and fake eyelashes, Carrie is a dead ringer for Lynn Anderson circa “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden.” I thought they were giving a nod to the country stars of yore. Just shows how much I know! (”Not much” is the answer!)

The only songs I really like on Carnival Ride are “Flat on the Floor” and “Twisted”.

“Just a Dream” is just ok.

I thought of Priscilla Presley when I saw those eyes. The video is pretty sad. I like how the white wedding dress and veil turn into a black dress and black veil.

I loved her eye make-up. Color me shallow. :)

I really like that this song at least shows something real that is really happening, even if it’s set in another time. Setting it for today I think would be too raw. I think it is a kinder choice to set it back in time a bit.

On a much happier note, I think Carrie looks superb with the make-up and the hair band and the clothes of the time. I agree, she’s made for that look.

The song is incredible and Carrie sings the daylights out of it. The video disappointed me. There was to much walking around and not enough build to get me hooked. Infact, I almost didn’t Finish watching it because I was getting bored. Having said that, this will be her biggest hit yet. Her acting was superb. I liked the beginning when she’s like “What rules? and the face she makes. Carrie would have made a beautiful 60s chick.

Wow. “Syrupy” AND depressing. In the middle of wedding season! That should deflate her fan base and put fear into their hearts. I’ve appreciated her so much more when she’s empowering to women - and if there’s a demographic that could use it, it’s probably the women (and men) who have lost their loved ones in this war.

The only way something like this would work for me is if it were obviously anti-war or pro-peace. Considering what happened to the Dixie Chicks, I can see why a country singer interested in commercial success would avoid making a stand. Imo, this is more victim-like melodramatic wallowing - all in the name of a top country hit. ugh.

If they must have a video like that, play it with a fiesty/empowering Carrie version of “Before He Cheats” - maybe a song for our politicians - “Before They Start a War.” ;-/
