The 2008 CMT Music Awards are happening right now. These awards are decided by viewer votes. Tonight we find out which fans are not only tenacious, but also skilled cookie clearers!
Here’s Carrie Underwood arriving at the Award ceremony:

Taylor Swift still sounds awful live, but her fans sure know how to clear those cookies too! She beat out Carrie, Martina, LeAnn Rimes, and Miranda Lambert for female video of the year.
Oh my Gosh, whoever told Taylor Swift she can sing? That was horrific. Made my ears bleed. She was off key the whole song. YUK!
just my opine—Taylor Swift proves that you do not need to carry a tune to make it. She would have NEVaH won Idol. Randy Jackson would say PITchy..and he would be correct.

Yes, Taylor Swift is a gifted songwriter and sounds great recorded. It’s too bad that she does not sound as good live on TV. She’s young. In a few years she may be good on TV too.
I watched the show and am watching the rerun now. The country award shows are my fav. They have a more party atmosphere and the singers dont take themselves too seriously the way they do at emmys, etc. I loved the keith urban/ brooks and dunn open and carrie was spot on pitch in her closing song. Most of the singers got off pitch a good bit I thought.

Carrie did win one award that was presented before the show. It was announced to the tv audience on a commercial break. She got the Rhapsody award for having the album most listened to by fans at Rhapsody this year.
I saw Phil Stacy briefly, Diana DiGarmo, Carrie, Kellie, Bucky, and Paula and Ryan had a bit on a video. AI was well represented.
I watched the Can YOu Duet show immediately after and liked it. It is set up like AI auditions with 3 judges who boot you, keep you for next round, or split the duo up if they don’t think they sound good together. It will be on Fridays at 8pm ET. There is one more audition round before the actual competition starts. I love duets so was glad the judges seem to know their stuff and seem fair. One judge is a songwriter, one a vocal coach, and Naomi Judd who was a big recording star before she retired due to health reasons.
I also watched the red carpet show before the awards show. They were interviewing Naomi Judd who said she and Paula had shared a dressing room that evening. She said they talked about David A. Naomi was one of the judges on Star Search when David A won it. She said she and Paula had been talking about how ornery David A’s father is, whew! Thats her exact words. Guess the rumors about being a stage dad are true. Poor David A. Hope when he is 18 he can get out from under his dad’s thumb.

I have to say, I’ve never gotten Taylor Swift at all (OMG, she’s only 111!1! 17!) but I thank her for making Kelly P. sound like a champ !

Bucky did get a divorce — not long after Idol ended. He went to Nashville, she went to work !

I know who Pickler reminds me of now, a young Tammy Wynette. Country music is being good to our idols, except don’t hear much about Josh Gracin.

JSG, I love Sugarland’s “Stay”. I’m not much of a country music fan, but every now and then I can find a song or an artist to latch onto. Jennifer Nettles has an incredible voice. And that video just breaks your heart.

I watched these awards and I think that the voices were absolutely shocking. Miley Cyrus and her father were so out of tune. Saw my favourite female singer of all Diana DeGarmo. She looked stunning. Her voice sticks all of them in the shade and Gretchen Wilson and John Rich are working with her. I cannot wait to hear her new music. She has a gift for a voice and being an opera singer I recognise it. Next year Diana at the awards.
Carrie did great and congratulations to Kellie. A lot of other Idol alum were there too: Diana DeGarmo, Bucky Covington, Phil Stacey…would love to see pictures of them from the Red Carpet here too!
