Update: “Home Sweet Home” is now available on iTunes:
Rumors were floating around about which song would serve as the boot song for American Idol Season 8. David Cook’s “Daily AntheM” and “Long Way” a new song from Daughtry’s upcoming album were two songs fans were buzzing about.
As it turns out, it’s a remake of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” recorded by Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood, that will send ousted Season 8 contestants on their way home.
Check out Motley Crue’s version HERE. Seems fitting.

“Home Sweet Home” makes it’s debut during this week’s results show and will be released as a digital single, found exclusively at iTunes through March 16, and then at online music retailers everywhere.
The release of the single will support one of Carrie’s favorite causes–Carrie, 19 Recordings, and Sony Music Nashville will donate a portion of the sales proceeds from Â’”Home Sweet HomeÂ’ ” to The Humane Society of the United States (www.hsus.org).
“I’Â’ve always loved this song,” says Carrie, “and besides being very fitting for Idol, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes.”
“We felt it was important to tie the release into an amazing animal charity like The HSUS,” she says.
Carrie follows in the footsteps of fellow idols Daughtry, whose original song, “Home” served as the Season 6 boot song, and Ruben Studdard who recorded a cover of Kenny Loggin’s “Celebrate Me Home” for Season 7.

Carrie picked an awesome charity to support. I will support the song too!
Oh, I really like Carrie’s version of HSH and will be purchasing it on the 16th. Much better than Rubens song from S7.
Boot songs that have a “can’t wait to be home” spin make no sense…they don’t want to go home!! AI never should have dropped “Bad Day” …
I like Carrie but I’m having a hard time hearing HSH and NOT hearing Vince Neil. Carrie Underwood and Motley Crue just don’t mix well to me.
Should not drink from wine glass while reading mjs comments, should not drink from wine glass while reading mjs comments…
:lol_tb:
Another One Bites The Dust as the boot is made of all kinds of win! LOL
Good cause but didn’t like the clip. It doesn’t really matter to me who does the boot song but would like a good one.
I don’t think there will ever be a better boot song than, “Had a Bad Day.” I agree, much more fitting than talk of “sweet home,” for contestants that want to be anywhere but home.
But, Carrie is such a wonderful ambassador for Idol, a class act, and I love that portion of this is going to charity. It’s first decision that Idol has made this year that I like.
Just downloaded it from iTunes! I love it!
LOL, I was going to post this on the headlines page! LOL! We seriously used to have a cat that acted exactly like this. The vet had a “warning’ sign on his cage once when we went to pick him up.
tinawina’s initial comment about puppies made me laugh louder than anything else today.
I’m so happy for Carrie and it’s going to a good cause. I’ve never bought anything of her’s before, but I’ll be buying this.
I see it’s available from iTunes now, yeah! I’ll download it tomorrow.
This.
It’s on iTunes now.
I’ve listened to David Cook’s CD with a potential exit song in mind and really, the only one I thought would work lyrically was Life on the Moon, but it’s probably not slated as a single at any point, so not a great choice as it probably wouldn’t make the kind of impact they’d like to make.
I was a diehard Bo fan and don’t listen to country music as a general rule, so I’ve never bought any of Carrie’s music. I’m happy she got the boot song this season though and I will definitely buy it since it benefits such a great cause.
I think Daughtry got a boot song because it was not only a perfect song for the purpose lyrically, but they were also still in the mindset of wanting to choose a song that would also likely become a huge radio hit. It seemed to only dawn on them later that it would be a good idea to always use a former Idol. Unfortunately last year’s was a disaster in pretty much every respect. This year they’ve tweaked the formula a bit further by having the proceeds go to a good cause, and insured a decent level of success by going with one of Idol’s golden girls.
#68 on Itunes now! The power of Carrie Underwood and front page Itunes ad! :clap_tb:
why would they be happy to go home?
eh that means their journey ended.
anywho I love Carrie. I wish they would have found a better song for her to sing than this shitty song.
Motley Crue sucks.
Since Carrie’s an 80’s rock/ hair metal band girl, it’s pretty safe to assume she chose this one herself. She loves Motley Crue and even performed onstage with Vince Neil when he did a concert in Nashville.
Seems like she’s given free reign when choosing what songs to do for her Idol extra-curricular activities– George Michael for IGB, Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way” for Idol Experience, etc.
By the way, the song is now #8 on iTunes in all genres. Before being played or mentioned on the show!
