Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown, Bucky Covington, Bo Bice, Phil Stacey To Make Appearances on Upcoming Idol Results Shows

Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown will appear on the special Idol Gives Back results show on Thursday, April 1o to perform their big hit “No Air”.  I do believe they have yet to perform the song together on television.  That should be special.  I rather like “No Air”.  Overwrought teen passion at it’s finest!

Bucky Covington’s fan letter confirms that he’ll be appearing on The Top 9 Results Show this coming Wednesday, April 2  in a video package that also features Nashville-based Idols Bo Bice and Phil Stacey.

According to The Clark Brothers My Space, they will be making an appearance also.  Plus, Dolly Parton will be performing her new single. She’s the mentor this week.  Wow, that’s a lot to fit into one hour.  I better be getting a pointy pose, dammit!

Phil Stacey Makes his Debut on the Grand Ole Opry - Plus Phil, Bo Bice and Bucky Covington featured in a Video During Top 9 Dolly Parton Week

Remember when Randy Jackson told Phil Stacey last season that he was going to have a career in country music? It’s happening. Phil’s debut album of country songs is set to release next month, and his single “If You Didn’t Love Me” is currently charting on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.

This weekend, Phil solidifies his country bonafides. He’ll be performing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, Saturday March 29th. He’ll perform his single, and also premier new material from his upcoming album. Go Phil!

Also, from Phil’s weekly column, Phil’s Pages, from Idol Chatter:

Speaking of the fine folks from American Idol, one of my good friends from the production team, Norm, came to Nashville this past weekend. He was here to film a segment about a few of the past Idol contestants that have decided to make Nashville home. If I am not mistaken, the segment features Bucky Covington, Bo Bice, and myself. It should air April 2, on the same week that Dolly Parton will be a mentor.

So there ya go–Dolly Parton will be the mentor next week for the Top 9. Plus, we’ll be treated to a video update on Bo Bice, Bucky Covington and Phil Stacey. Good stuff!

Idol Holidays Redux - Jon Peter Lewis and Bucky Covington

Today’s Christmas treat–two Idol 8th place finishers. Jon Peter Lewis, from Season 3 and Bucky Covington, from Season 5.

Bucky Covington was recruited last-minute for the GAC Christmas tour last year, replacing Buddy Jewell who had to withdraw due to a broken wrist. Listen to Bucky talk about the excitement of touring–his first after the Idol tour. After a short interview, he performs the Eagle’s tune, “Please Come Home for Christmas.”

American Idol Dallas TX Auditions Begin Today

Kids started lining up at 6 am Saturday morning for the chance to audition today at Texas Stadium, in Dallas TX. It’s estimated there were more than 10,000 waiting in line on Saturday, by 8 am the line wrapped a quarter of the way around the stadium.

American Idol producer, Patrick Lynn, says that the biggest mistake an auditioner can make in the first round is “Being too nervous.” He also says that “Everybody should have at least two songs prepared, with verse and chorus.” And he adds, “I swear, sometimes we ask for a second song and people look at us like we’re high.” Heh.

This article from the Dallas News is most excellent and tells a cautionary tale about entering talent competitions with starry starry eyes. The story focuses on Season 1 3rd place finisher Nikki McKibbin. It took her 3 years to get out of an undesirable record contract with RCA Nashville. She recently released her first record with an indie label called “Unleashed.”

Bucky Covington is also interviewed for the article. He says, “It’s one thing to stay at home and watch a really good TV show…You can pick up the phone and even vote. That’s a great thing ’cause I’ve never picked up a phone and voted. But it’s still different from going out, picking up an album and buying it. It’s just a good TV show, and a lot of people watch it for that fact.”

Finally–to Preston, Carrie and Leslie, who are auditioning this week in Dallas–GOOD LUCK! Come back and tell us about your experiences!
