Claudette Yamin, Mother of Elliott Yamin Passes Away

Very sad news from the Richmond Times-Dispatch

Claudette Yamin, mother of singer Elliott Yamin, died last night. She was 65.

She had been hospitalized during the weekend at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. Her cause of death was not released.

Last year, Claudette Yamin moved briefly to Los Angeles, but returned to the Richmond area in February.

“I went to see if I could rebuild my health,” she said in a February interview with the Richmond Times-Dispatch. (A broken hip had never fully mended.)

Fans remember Claudette from Season 5.  She was featured as Elliott’s feisty and beloved mom.  Elliott’s friend Brandon Crowe left this message on Elliott’s official fan site, Etrainstation:

The world lost a beautiful soul. I can’t go into any details at this time except to say that she went peacefully. Elliott wanted me to let you all know, but we are asking that you please respect the family’s privacy at this time. We are all aware of your prayers, and we thank you. In lieu of sending flowers, we ask that donations be sent to the local chapter of the Richmond JDRF. Thanks again for all your support and prayers..it’s helped us through the day.

Thoughts and prayers going out right now to Elliott, his friends and family…

Billboard Update for Issue 1/19/08

I’m way behind on my blogging. Sawry!  I helped a college friend celebrate a birthday this weekend–a nice round number. Heh.  Her husband booked the famed Stone Pony for the night!  (Where Bruce Springsteen got his start.)  It was pretty awesome.  Much fun was had by all. Asbury Park rules!

Anyway….here’s your awesome Idol Billboard Update.  FYI, I usually post the chart Thursday night or Friday morning.  To find the new chart, check the current chart tab…

This week’s Highlights (the short form)

  • Target stores put their “Sounds of the Season” Christmas EPs on sale after Christmas, and Elliott Yamin came away the big winner.  The CD bolted up the Billboard 200–from #132-#32 and was #1 on the Billboard holiday chart…
  • Carrie Underwood’s single ”All-American Girl” debuts on the Hot 100 at #84. It debuts on the Hot 100 Airplay at #70.
  • Jordin Spark’s duet with Chris Brown, “No Air”debuted on the Hot 100 at #95. It also debuts on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart at #27.
  • Kimberley Locke has another Billboard #1.  “Band of Gold” tops the Hot Dance Club Play chart.  Now, if only her chart success could sell a few albums…

Here is this week’s Idol Billboard Chart

Highlights:

  •  Kimberley Lock’s Christmas tune, “Frosty the Snowman”, shoots up to the #1 position on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart this week.  This is the third year in a row Kim has had a seasonal hit on the adult contemporary chart.  The dance club mix of “Band of Gold” is #5 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Elliott Yamin - Maryland Theater Hagerstown, MD

Tamera’s recap from the Elliott Yamin concert at the Maryland Theater in Hagerstown, MD 11/5/07

**********

I had previously been to only the season 4 Pop-Tarts tour. Tonight was my first individual “Idol” concert. And I was PUMPED to see Elliott! My dear hubby was enthused about seeing one of his fav Idols. (His #1 fav is Bo Bice) No pictures because hubby left the phone that takes pictures at home.

Venue is in a restored historic circa 1915 theater. It is absolutely gorgeous—gilded carvings, box seats on sides (think the old guys in the box seats on The Muppet Show) The acoustics are phenomenal.

The crowd was pretty mixed age wise. There were quite a few 30+ guys with their significant others. There was a big contingent of seeing teens. Our seats were in the center 5 rows from stage(about 20 feet) The stage is low (eye level) which made it feel very intimate. In front of us were contest winner and VIP seats.

Elliott Yamin at the HOB in Orlando FL 10/28/07

Sarah from http://teamplaid.com attended the Elliott Yamin concert Sunday night at the House of Blues in Orlando Florida. Here is her recap:

The concert was GREAT. I’m really glad we got there early. Well, on time, really, but you know what I mean. My roommate and I both loved both opening acts. Josh Hoge has SO much soul in his voice, but on the whole, his songs seem pretty versatile. He was fantastic - his whole set was acoustic. His “breakup” song, 360? Yeah, totally identified with that, and I told him as much when I got the chance to talk to him later. Oh a little Josh Hoge scoop - he’s been signed to a new label out of New York and is going into the studio in January to begin recording a full length album that will be released sometime next spring or early summer, they hope. He’s also been signed to an endorsement deal with Geico and has some big things with them in the works. And yeah - he’s not bad on the eyes at all. Okay…

The Last Goodnight - also fantastic!! My roommate loved the 80’s influences in their sound. *cough* At first, I thought the lead singer looked a little like Adam Levine, but as their set continued my roommate pointed out that he looks more like a non-tatted up Joel Madden, and I TOTALLY see that! Anyway, we both agree that The Last Goodnight should definitely make it big. The band is tight and they have a great sound. It’s obvious that they’ve been playing together for a while - their transitions are seamless. It’s also obvious that their target demographic is young females - not unlike Maroon 5 - and the ladies there tonight certainly responded well to them. And my roommate and I both recognized their single as a song we’d heard before, so that’s a good thing. Anyway, we really really liked both opening acts. So, if you’re going to an Elliott concert - make sure you get there on time!!!

Okay… Elliott!!!

Idol Record News

  • You can hear 40 second song-snippets of all the songs on Carrie Underwood’s upcoming album “Carnival Ride” here.  However, if you are patient and can sit through songs by other artists,  Slacker.com is streaming full songs on their Carrie Radio station.  Type “Carrie Underwood” in the search box, then play.  I’m listening to a song called “Crazy Dreams” right now…Also *ahem* these songs can all be found as downloads on the internet…somewhere… Or, so I hear.  PS I like “Twisted”.
  • Blake Lewis has a website with a phone number.  Call, and you get a recorded message from Blake. After,  you can leave your own message.  Fans can hear the single at this phone number as soon as it’s ready. I got a message back on my cell phone, so I’m assuming they’ll be sending out messages as soon as the single is available.  No, I did not leave a message. Heh.
  • Not record news, but worth mentioning: Melinda Doolittle will be taping a PBS Christmas special in November at her Alma Mater, Belmont University.  The program will air on December 20th on the Nashville PBS station, and December 24th across the country.  Yay, Melinda!
