This week’s edition of Idol in the mags…

The 5/9 edition of Entertainment Weekly features a story on how the Top 5 chose their song selections for Neil Diamond week. Many of you have read the article on line, and there has been much discussion about it. Interesting, the Idols don’t make the front page of the issue, like they would have in years past for a feature story. Ellen Pompeo from Grey’s Anatomy graces the cover instead. I’m sure that decision had something to do with Season 7’s declining ratings. This week’s numbers are the lowest in 5 years.

Carrie Underwood is featured as one of People Magzine’s 100 Most Beautiful in their May 12 issue.

Finally, Carly Smithson gets a page in the May 12 US Magazine–”Carly: What I Did After Idol”

This week, TV Guide runs a one page piece on David Cook and his brother Adam. By now I’m sure most of you know about Adam’s advanced brain cancer and his trip on a medical jet–funded by folks back home–to Los Angeles to see his brother perform. To the casual AI viewer? It might be news, because David has never discussed his brother on the show.

Also in TV Guide, a little blurb about David Cook and Michael Johns–they plan to write songs together. Plus, Kristy Lee Cook’s recent engagement.

“Who is Your Biggest Supporter?” US magazine asks the Top 6. Brooke White and Carly Smithson rely on their husbands. David Cook and Jason Castro are close to their moms. Syesha Mercado leans on her fiance for support. And of course, David Archuleta has his Dad. Eep.

Carrie Underwood and Chase Crawford

The big news in the rags this week is the break-up of Carrie Underwood and Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford. I barely knew they were dating. The mags breathlessly quote “sources” from both camps. Their busy schedules kept them apart! Carrie was needy! Chace likes the ladies! In US, there’s even a side bar that addresses “Those Gay Rumors.” About Chace, that is. Heh. Can’t cover a pretty boy in Hollywood without covering the gay rumors.
