Phil Stacey Signs with Lyric Street Records

Phil Stacey sent out a My Space bulletin a couple of weeks ago, announcing that he’d signed a record deal:

I signed a record deal yesterday. I can’t go into detail about it, because it isn’t newsworthy yet, but I am incredibly excited about the people I will be working with for the record. It is a major label deal and we are planning on putting out a record in April of next year. Until then, I’ll be doing a lot of touring. When I get some dates, I’ll let you know.

He performed at the Factory in Nashville, TN with Melinda Doolittle last night, and tells a local interviewer that he’s just signed to Lyric Street Records, home to fellow AI alums Bucky Covington and Josh Gracin.  Congrats Phil!

Rumored Spoilers and Other Stuff

Spoiler Rumors for Tonight

Somebody named “Scrappy” at the Vote for the Worst message boards who claims to be part of the Martina McBride camp, claims to know the song choices for tonight’s performance show:

1. Phil Stacey - “Ain’t Goin’ Down Till The Sun Goes Up” by Garth Brooks
2. Jordin Sparks - “You’re Still The One” by Shania Twain
3. Sanjaya Malakar - “Boot Scootin Boogie” by Brooks & Dunn
4. Lakisha Jones - “Concrete Angel” by Martina McBride
5. Chris Richardson - “Over And Over” by Nelly and Tim McGraw
6. Melinda Doolittle - “Why Haven’t I Heard From You” by Reba McEntire
7. Blake Lewis - “Come A Little Closer” by Dierks Bentley

ETAA: So much for that!  It’s reported that the Spoiler list is not true….so back to speculating for you all…

ETA: There’s a report from someone close to Blake that he has a different song choice tonight.  But, it’s also being reproted on Michael W. Smith’s site that Jordin is actually going second.  Soooo….hmmm…..

These are rumors, people rumors, so don’t kill me if they don’t come true.  I’ll update with new information as it arrives.

Martina McBride is this week’s guest mentor.  She’ll perform ”Anyway,”– the first single from her just-released “Waking Up Laughing CD–on tomorrow night’s results show.

More Stuff

Here’s an article from USA Today about the American Idol country success stories which include Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler, Bucky Covington and Josh Gracin.  Considering the popularity of the genre, it’s hard to believe there were NO country singers in this year’s Top 24…

Entertainment Weekly just posted video interviews from the Top 7 from its recent cover story on the Idols.

Ohhhh, Idol’s hectic schedule exposed!  In other words, the Idol publicist sent this over, and now we are posting as if it were some sort of super-sekrit information.

An American Idol film crew was recently in Eastern Kentucky filming at an elementary school for next week’s big Idol Gives Back charity special.

And finally, later on this evening, tune into Late Night with David Letterman on CBS.  Dave Tella Terza from Vote for the Worst will be Dave’s special guest!  There better be a trip report, that’s all I’m sayin’…

Elliott Yamin is on a roll.  His debut CD drops on March 20. He debuted his single “Wait For You” on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. Check out a clip from his upcoming video here. You can listen to “Wait For You” at Elliott’s My Space. Good stuff.

Jennifer Hudson was the recipient of an NAACP Image Awards Friday night. Jennifer won Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in “Dreamgirls.”

Ace Young will be the spokesman for the next two months for the Dreyers Ice Cream American Idol campaign. He’ll be doing radio spots, TV Ads and personal appearances promoting Dreyer’s American Idol Ice Cream Flavors.

Bucky Covington new video debuted ”…in the #1 position atop CMT’s fan-voted CMT Pure Country video playlist. Additionally, the video debuted this week at an impressive #36 on Yahoo Music’s all-genre video chart, putting Covington in the company of fellow American Idol alum Carrie Underwood as the only two country artists with videos in Yahoo’s Top 50.”

You can now download Jon Peter Lewis’s excellent self-released CD, “Stories from Hollywood” at Americanidol.com.  This CD is my favorite ex-Idol album release of all time.  No lie.

Carrie UnderwoodJosh Gracin and Bucky Covington are among the performers of this summer’s CMA music festival.  The festival runs from June 7-10 in Nashville, TN.

Great news for Bo Bice fans. Bo will be singing the theme song to the new Will Ferrell movie Blades of Glory. Producer Ben Stiller has been a fan of Bo’s since his Idol run and invited him to work on the song. You can listen to the tune at the official Blades of Glory My Space.

Billboard Update 03/03/07

Here’s yer Idol Billboard Chart.  A little late, ’cause of the extra night of Idol goodness this week.

  • According to Billboard Magazine, “the Grammy Awards also had a major impact on sales this week.”  Grammy performers and winners experienced sales increases this week, including Carrie Underwood.  Her album “Some Hearts” that a 60% increase from last week.
  • The Grammy bounce for others pushed DAUGHTRY down the Billboard 200, from #3 to #9.  However, his sales increased by by 34%.
  • Daughtry’s single, “It’s Not Over” is #1 on the Hot Adult 40 chart.  The single continues to do well on Rock and Pop charts.  Chris Daughtry’s song “Home” is officially the Idol boot song.  Meaning, millions of Idol viewers will hear it on a weekly basis.  No doubt, the exposure will DAUGHTRY’s sales and chart position.
  • Taylor Hicks single, “Just to Feel That Way” rose from #30 to #26 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart.  Taylor began a nationwide tour this week.  No doubt, he’ll be promoting the tour and the single at radio stations along the way.  The promotion should give Taylor’s album and single a boost.
  • Josh Gracin’s single, “I Keep Coming Back” has been on the Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart for 19 weeks.  It’s slowly climbed up the charts in that time and now sits at #28.  Josh could wind up with a Top 20 country hit.
