Remember when Randy Jackson told Phil Stacey last season that he was going to have a career in country music? It’s happening. Phil’s debut album of country songs is set to release next month, and his single “If You Didn’t Love Me” is currently charting on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart.
This weekend, Phil solidifies his country bonafides. He’ll be performing on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, Saturday March 29th. He’ll perform his single, and also premier new material from his upcoming album. Go Phil!
Also, from Phil’s weekly column, Phil’s Pages, from Idol Chatter:
Speaking of the fine folks from American Idol, one of my good friends from the production team, Norm, came to Nashville this past weekend. He was here to film a segment about a few of the past Idol contestants that have decided to make Nashville home. If I am not mistaken, the segment features Bucky Covington, Bo Bice, and myself. It should air April 2, on the same week that Dolly Parton will be a mentor.
So there ya go–Dolly Parton will be the mentor next week for the Top 9. Plus, we’ll be treated to a video update on Bo Bice, Bucky Covington and Phil Stacey. Good stuff!

I have a couple of remaining notes on the last two Idol concerts I attended in Manchester, NH. You can check out my videos from both shows (and all the other shows I attended) at GoFish. I’ve also put up a bunch of photos on my MySpace blog.
I’m posting Blake Lewis’s last performance of “You Give Love a Bad Name” ’cause it’s sweet. After Blake’s heartfelt thanks to the audience and a little shout out to his parents, you can hear his mom shout back “I love you too!”
Blake’s mom had made her way to the front of the stage to see Blake’s last performance. She was standing right next to us. I hear the venue security had given her a hard time where she was sitting originally, because she was standing out in the aisle. (!!!)
Venue security hassled me too. They almost threw me out. I was warned during intermission to stop taking video, or security would erase my video card. Ok, I’ll admit that I didn’t heed their warning, but what was really creepy–security came after me before the encore. They took my camera and pulled me out of the arena. From what I understood, they were taking their marching orders from Idol security, and from the sounds of it, they were watching me very closely–they even saw me sit down and change my video card! Can you say creepy?

Yoro is a pal of mine from way back in season 3. She and a couple other Season 3 pals were in NH with Sarah and I for Saturday’s concert. Here is Yoro’s recap, I’m going to throw in a few of my pictures just for fun…
******
I admit, I wasn’t planning on going to the tour at all this year. I was a yooge Blake fan during the season, but I was so wrapped up in work this summer that I didn’t have time to follow any of the news or gossip. There was no way I could whip myself into the usual frenzy that I had for Elliott, Bo, JPL, etc., so my hometown show came and went without me. I got a second chance with the Manchester show, in my *old* hometown, thanks to a pal of MJ’s. HaremCon Jr. with schmanda and Snarkin was on!
I’m glad I did go, because it turned out to be a pretty excellent show overall. Like MJ, I’m a fan of the whole Idol experience in general - the goofy group numbers and the interactions between the finalists are more interesting to me than any one contestant, ever. So I liked that last year’s concept of mixing duets with the solo numbers was taken a step further this time.

Here’s Phil Stacey singing “Blaze of Glory” during the final concert Sunday night:
I caught up with Phil Stacey at the after party Sunday night. He looked tired, but happy as he held his sweet baby girl, McKayla. She’s the baby who was born during Phil’s audition in front of the judges in Memphis. Backstory baby? Heh. But is she cute or what? I asked him if the end of the tour was bittersweet for him, and he said, “No, it’s sweet, I know that I’ll be keeping in touch with everyone.” Phil reminded me that he’s moving to Nashville, TN, as is Chris Sligh. Melinda Doolittle is already there, of course.
The big news: Phil told me that he “has signed with a major label,” and that he will be making an announcement soon on his My Space. Phil mentioned that he has signed on with the same Christian management company as Chris Sligh. Phil says the album will be released sometime next April.
Phil and his family were traveling right back to Jacksonville, FL the next morning. He had to report back to the Navy on Monday! Yikes.
Those of you who saw the show saw Phil really come into his own during the tour. His big voice fills a big arena with no problem, and his years on the road with the Navy band are evident–he knows how to connect with a large audience. He is a completely different performer live than he was on television where he seemed uncomfortable and stiff, particularly at the beginning of the competition.
Fun fact: His wife Kendra sat right next to Sarah and I during the first half of the show holding McKayla on her lap…

Verizon Wireless Arena was nearly full last night as the Idols took the stage for the next-to-the-last time. There was lots of heartfelt thanks to the audience for giving them the opportunity to tour, and in response the audience was wildly enthusiastic. I think these last two show are going to be memorable for the Idols. Manchester, NH has always loved the Idols.
Many family sightings in the audience last night: Blake Lewis’ parents sat behind me. Gina Glocksen’s mom and fiance were nearby. Phil Stacey’s wife could be seen sitting inside the steel barrier in front of the stage. During “I Need You” (his duet with Gina), Phil sang the song to his wife when he made his way to her side of the stage. Melinda Doolittle’s mom was there. I believe Chris Sligh’swife, Sarah was there, as was Sanjaya Malakar’s sister, Shyamali Malakar.
And get this–Tony Orlando was in the house! Yes, Tony Orlando, from Tony Orlando and Dawn. No I’m not kidding. He was there with a young girl who was probably a daughter or granddaughter. People were asking for his autograph during intermission. Too funny.
I took video and pictures–as always, and I’ll have them up soon. I’ll be attending the final show tonight, and it should be fun. The Idols usually play many pranks on stage during the final show. I’ll no doubt have lots of great pictures and video, so stay tuned…

Yeah, yeah, I saw the Idols in Worcester last Wedndesday!
At the last minute I copped a ticket–fifth row, and I got lots of media. Unfortunately, the sound is kinda farked on the video, but I was upclose and I got some great screen grabs. Check out the Worcester collection on my My Space blog
A couple of weeks ago I hit the midwest to see a couple of shows. The arena in Cleveland was a little over half full, and the audience in Toronto was pretty dead. But Worcester? They love them some Idols here in New England. Not only was the arena fairly full, but the fans in the front rows were extremely enthusiastic. And the Idols seemed totally psyched, particularly since they had just received some bad news about tour receipts. Continue reading ‘MJ’s Worcester, MA Recap’

A few Season 6 tidbits:
Chris Sligh announced on his blog, that he’s signed with a management company:
As of today, I’ve officially signed with my management company, Blanton, Harrell, Cooke and Corzine.
Michael Blanton and Dan Harrell have managed both Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith since the beginning of their careers. The management firm now includes Jennifer Cooke & Chazz Corzine, who act as the personal managers to Amy & Smitty respectively. The firm now manages Point of Grace, Bebo Norman and Aaron Shust as well as some newer artists that will be announced shortly.
Congrats Chris!
In this interview Phil Stacey talks about his upcoming plans:
He is currently in negotiations with a record label in Nashville. His first CD, a country/gospel album, is due out next April.
And a bit of gossip about Blake Lewis and his upcoming record via reader Star and Team Plaid:
Here’s some Blake news from some people at the concert in Philly tonight that checked in at Team Plaid…they talked to Blake before the show and he told them his album will be released on 11/27. They also got some info from him about the first single:
He said it’s a reworked “Jealousy” called “What You Got to Lose,” cowritten with C Rich. He said it was James Brown meets Prince meets the California Tupac song.
“Jealousy” is one of Blake’s pre-Idol songs & it’s here. And the “California Tupac song” is “California Love” hee.
So, there you go! It looks like Blake’s first single will be called “What You Got to Lose,” co-written with Chris Richardson…

I think it’s about time I post a Season 6 update! Here goes…
Jordin Sparks’ first single, “Tattoo,” from her upcoming album (due to be released November 20) was released last Monday. We’ll see how well the single is doing when the chart and sales numbers are released next week. A couple of days ago I was flipping by my local KISS station in the car, and there it was. You can listen to it here. It’s standard Top 40 fare. It’s certainly no earworm–the way Rihanna’s songs stick in your head, for instance (rella rella rella…ahhhhh….KILLMENOWPLEASE). But what do I know? The kids will prolly love it…
Stargate, the Swedish production team who helmed the production have produced hits for others, including Ne-yo, Rihanna and Elliott Yamin.Recent interviews in Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide with Blake Lewis are a fun read. Blake is refreshingly candid as he discusses the tour, his new-found fame (old ladies invade his space!) and his upcoming record ADD (Audio Day Dream), scheduled to be released at the end of the year. About the music on the album Blake says,
I feel that I have two singles already, maybe three. I definitely know which ones I want to come out first, but it’s all up to the powers that be. I’ve been working on music for a long time — I’d already started writing all this music a while ago.
Blake also says that, “Every single idea that I have for this project, the company is in love with.” Additionally, he’s videoing his studio sessions for a DVD that will be released at the same time as the record.
I am really intrigued by the fact that Chris Richardson’s Idol-mates cannot stop talking about what a great songwriter he is. He’s submitted songs for Jordin Sparks album that may very well make the cut, and he’s writing for/with Blake Lewis, Chris Sligh and Phil Stacey. Chris Rich talks about his songwriting in this TV Guide interview.
Phil Stacey and Melinda Doolittle will perform in Carnegie Hall this fall. They’ll take part in the 10th anniversary celebration of the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, along with the New York Pops, Rosanne Cash and others. Performing in Carnegie Hall should
