Season 7 Top 12 Girls - Performance

Ryan announces at the top of the show that the girls are sick tonight. Yes, the big mystery behind Carly Smithson’s absence from the sidelines during the guys performance show is the flu. So much for conspiracy theories! The girls get off to a slow start, but improve as the night wears on. And wear on it does. So…many…commercials…Ack!

Overall, the guys ranks have more low-hanging fruit than the girls. The unseen girls performances were much better than the guys. There will actually be a competition amongst the girls. By the way, Simon says he likes it when contestants spar with him.

Video packages: More I Love Idol! from the girls, and Kristy Lee wants to buy her horse back.

The performances:

Season 7 - Hollywood Week - The Top 24 Revealed

First. Congratulations to Joesplace who batted a perfect 500 on the Spoilers. I’m not surprised. Now, on with the recap!

The show opens with Hayden Christiansen (??!?) and Ryan Seacrest sitting in front of a green screen pretending to be in Egypt. I don’t get it. Oh, OK. Hayden is pimping his new FOX show, Jumpers. Get off my Tee Vee, now, please. Thank you.

On the first day, Simon tells the assembled crowd of 164, that they’ll be cut down to 50 contestants by the end of the week. Last year, that number was 44, the year before, 40. There are other changes-significant changes to this year’s Hollywood Round. During the initial auditions, during the first two days, some contestants are fast-tracked to Day Four. Others are cut, but get a second chance on Day 3–singing a’capella for the judges. On the fourth day, the fast tracked and the survivors of Day 3 are brought together to audition one last time.

Gone are the group auditions. There’s no big reveal at the end of the episode in the rooms of doom, either. Brand new this year–contestants accompany themselves on instruments if they wish. It definitely adds a new twist to the proceedings.

Ryan explains that many of these kids have grown up watching this show and that they think they know what’s in store for them…
