Aww, I like Jay Leno but that was a lame skit. It’s good to see Chikezie get a little love though. Thanks for the video.

I now remember why I stopped watching Leno for Letterman, Poor Chikezie, glad for the tv appearance, but the skit just tanks. Hoping for Ellen and a performance, enjoyed Chik and will love seeing him on the tour this summer

Wow, that was SO obviously staged it was unfunny. I liked Chickezie’s orange suit.

Did you know that was the REAL PIP? Gladys’ brother Bubba who toured with her for years!!! He must be starting a tribute band.

    I thought it was cute.

Plus — remember the writers didn’t have a lot of time to come up with that routine. At least Chikezie got some TV face time!

I can’t get it to play. What was the skit about?

  6. 6 Lu Mar 28th, 2008 at 8:15 am

poor chikezie - everyone was singing but him!

  7. 7 sciencefan Mar 28th, 2008 at 9:04 am

That was cute, but I agree… how come he didn’t sing?!
    He’s got MAD skilz!

Yes I did. Still not funny.

Just because Merald Knight is willing to hire himself out for embarrassing moments like this and I think the Geico commercial they did, didn’t make this any less an insult to his guest.

There’s already a blogosphere effort sending cam shots of giving the finger to Leno because of the way he overplayed ragging on Ryan Phillipe for playing a gay character. He went on and on and on with that too, and expected Ryan to play along with ridiculing gay people.

You thought it was “embarassing?” Hmmm….Chikezie is lucky to be invited on Leno or anybody’s show. There’s nothing that says these shows HAVE to take an Idol as guest. Unfortunately, he didn’t get to sing…but neither did Sanjaya when he was on Letterman.

And considering Chikezie was doing promos all day long it was a wonder that he made it to Leno’s show — maybe it was a last minute lineup? I doubt it was a preplanned visit.

    People — lighten up.

That doesn’t mean he deserves to be humiliated.

DO NOT TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO OR WHAT TO THINK. If you keep crossing the line, I will BAN you.

That clip basically sucked. It’s supposed to be some stupid imitation of those Geico commercials, I guess. I’ve seen lots of Idol contestants in skits on Jay Leno post-elimination, but this has to be the worst one of all. Poor Chikezie…. I’d rather see him doing the “Top 10″ thing on Letterman….

Well, I didn’t get it or find it funny.

Both Leno & Letterman have times of being very funny and times of being really lame/or bad taste and not funny or stuff that makes me mad or cringe. I find Letterman more so usually, but they both do it. Other parts of their shows can be very entertaining. But they both do do that.
Too bad they didn’t let him sing with the pippies at the very least but who knows what last min. arrangement was made. If enough complain perhaps he’ll be back on to sing.

I’m HONESTLY curious why some of you find this offensive or think of Chikeze as coming across as humiliated?? I didn’t think the skit was funny but that’s pretty typical for the booted off Idol skits on Leno. I still remember in Season 5 when he would have them spin a prize wheel and when they got excited it turned out to be something stupid….like Chris won a “pair of choppers” and it was 2 sets of chattering teeth :rolleyes_tb:

I think being forced to do soemthing as lame as this skit is humiliating. I didn’t see the Tonight show bits you describe from Season 5, but those sound pretty humiliating as well. :).

I agree! None of the Idol skits I’ve seen have been funny (excpet those involving Pickler of course) but it’s a ton of exposure for them so I guess it’s a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t” situation. I honestly do wonder why Leno always goes the lame route when it comes to the Idols :dry_tb:

The Idol contestants can’t sing on the late night shows prior to the end of their contract, right?

The Leno skits are almost always ill-chosen. When Scott Savol was on the show in Season 4, Leno had a food-related skit. I think this was to emphasize that Scott was overweight.

At least Jay Leno has given Kellie Pickler some pretty good gigs, sending her out with a microphone and doing interviews. Very funny. I know that originally he was probably only trying to make fun of her, but she turned that around in her favor and even got a chance to promote her CD.

Those Leno skits after elimination are most often LAME. I remember the one for Elliott. That night the audience was filled with military people. The wheel had the names of the branches of armed forces - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, etc. He spun a wheel and would get a kiss from someone from that branch of the military. LAME. He was asking Elliott stupid questions then he said something to the effect that Elliott’s girlfriend must be watching. (I’m sure she was.) LAME.

Hopefully, Chikezie will be successful enough someday to be back on the show as a guest.

Thanks for the clip, MJ. I had forgotten that he was supposed to be on until around midnight. Too late then.
