Chris Daughtry – Poker Face – Germany

Check out Chris Daughtry performing an acoustic version of Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” at a radio station in Germany where he is promoting his upcoming album, “Leave This Town” due to drop July 14.

Hm. That was strangely compelling.

Can this be his new single instead of No Surprise? This one brought family members into the room from all over the house when they realized what they were hearing! I immediately made an MP3 of it. (Though I do agree with Weareallinnocent- I couldn’t help but imagine how much more longing David Cook would have put in his voice.)

ETA: Kimberann, go to Zamzar.com and put the Youtube’s URL in the Step 1 box, then follow their instructions. It’s really simple.

I…really liked that. I like the original too, but this is a nice take on it. Wouldn’t mind an mp3 if it’s out there.

  • CathyMK:

Okay, I think I’ve figured out how to upload the MP3 to Mediafire for whoever wants a copy. Hopefully this link will work:

Maybe I need to learn how to do pretty links next? :smile2_ee:

Why this song? How did he keep the “poker face” while singing it? :) Was he going to burst out laughing at the end? I think I was. Don’t mean to be mean, just didn’t work for me. Guess I’m in the minority on this one. When his song No Surprise comes on the radio (I’ve heard it only twice), I always think it’s the start of a Nickelback song at first.

Why is it that unlike most current singers, the idols sound better live than on stuido recordings? This just shows that most of the recordings by AI alums are overproduced.

  • Miss Chaos:

Now I see how stupid that song is and I cant believe that Chris sang it. He should stick to Wanted Dead or Alive, or some of his other covers that were good. And he looked like a mole for some reason.

  • lola:

Some parts were ok but that is what I call screaming towards the end.

Lady Gaga is not my thing at all. I don’t like her, or her music. I think Poker Face is a dumb song, and I would have preferred Chris to sing a cover of another song if that is what the radio station had wanted. I absolutely loved his cover of RocketMan, that was an incredible cover Chris sang for a radio station. Take away my dislike of Lady Gaga and the song, and Chris was awesome-ness! I love his voice and style and I think he is so talented.

  • kimberann:

Thanks for the MP3 info. Mucho gracias. :smile1_ee: Nothing like a guy who sings it pure and simple. I don’t need any brooding, phony emotions to like a song. Thanks again.

This is the first time I heard the song sound like something I would buy. Daughtry did a lovely job with this song and made me like it. Bravo.

  • primeminister:

This is awesome! Well, I love Gaga’s original version to begin with so…

  • adamdreamz:

omfg….chris rocks this song……love it better than the orginal….he is so creative …..a true artist and musician……you rock chris…..

  • cjester27:

I also am in the minority as to liking this cover. Personally, I think it’s needs more of a rock edge (similar to David Cook’s recent covers of Johnny Hates Jazz’s Shattered Dreams and). This cover? A weeee bit to mellow for my taste (albeit I admit downloading one of the MP3 versions of this song, since the Lady GaGa original is WAAAAAY to cheezy for my taste).

As for why he did Poker Face, per one of his recent twitters, he was asked by the radio station that taped it to do some cover, and that his guitar tech suggested doing PF.

  • sunchick:

So, is he being ironic or earnest? It’s hard to tell. I dunno, I think with those particular lyrics, if you are going to do a rock cover, you should sing it with a bit of irony (like Dynamite Hack’s Boys In The Hood) and it’s not coming off that way to me. :ponder_tb:

  • waffle:

I didn’t know that Chris played the guitar so well. It seemed like second nature to him, so effortless.

  • Chipmunk:

He did a decent job of it. I like Gaga so i love the original

  • heart2:

    Very Nice..I really like it!
