ETA:Â   Statement from People Magazine:

We can confirm that Clay Aiken and his son are featured on the next issue of PEOPLE. For the complete story, please visit www.people.com at 7am tomorrow.

Not exactly a confirmation that Clay comes out in their pages…but why would they spoil the surprise?

Clay is scheduled for a two-part interview with Good Morning America on Thursday and Friday this week…

The Daily News says they’ve confirmed the story…So is the Associated Press

Clay Aiken comes out? Perez Hilton posted this mockup, swearing it’s for real. Apparently, Entertainment Tonight HAS confirmed it.

This story is developing…

    That baby is freaking cute!

Just rewatched his Bridge Over Troubled Waters performance on AI….incredible. Carry on Clay. Cute kid!!!!

  • Suzanne:

To make such a huge splash about this is just so . . . well . . . gay. (LOL)

I’m relieved for him. I think he probably felt like he would be letting down part of his fanbase. Now that he’s got a kid and an unconventional family, it was either hide more/deny the obvious, or just come out with it. I agree with MJ–his life is going to be way easier now. I’m actually a bit surprised that there are so many people interested in this tid bit that it warrants a two-parter interview on GMA and a People cover. There are so many entertainers who are gay–it’s just not that big a deal.

I just honestly hope for a day when somebody could walk into Idol saying, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and win with it not being an issue. I doubt we will see that day in Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s lifetime.

It just happened this year on Canadian Idol. Yep. Theo Tams made a couple subtle, yet pointed references to his sexual preference during the competition and then…it was time to move on to the singing. And then he won. Pretty awesome. Maybe it’ll happen in America some day.

  • Allison:

Well I was a bit surprised, even though I was prepared. I thought he was asexual, like NY Magazine intimated.

    How shocking.

Good for him, but to think all these years…

  • mrcritic1980:

In other news, George Lopez is Hispanic, Conan O’Brien is Irish, Mel Brooks is Jewish and the Pope is Catholic.

  • Grammie Kari:

Oh my goodness, that is definitely Clay’s baby! No doubt about it. Wonder if he’ll have a beautiful voice like his Daddy?

All I have to say is: It’s about damn time! Seriously, the world knew for (I don’t know, forever).
It baffles me that in the 21st century, there is still such a stigma attached to homosexuality that people feel the need to attempt to hide who they are.
Kudos to him for the public outing, although I don’t really think it was necessary.
LOL at mrcritic1980’s comment and Amen!

Wow! He only came out to his mother four years ago! Maybe he had his own problems in dealing with this truth and that is part of the reason for the long delay in admitting it to the public. Either way, I’m happy for him that now he can be open about himself without fear.

One of my closest friends is a gay man I’ve known since college. I’m glad Clay had the courage to come out publicly. Every gay person should wait to come out when he/she is ready, however long it takes. I think it must be a very hard thing to do. Yes, even in the 21st Century. And for some people it’s more difficult than for others. We’re all as different as we are alike.

I’ve always enjoyed Clay’s singing. I like many different types of music. And I agree with Duke’s post that Clay’s voice may be the best one produced yet by AI. (Certainly, one of the best.)

With a new son and starting another stint on Broadway, I hope the best is yet to be for Clay.

Have to add, as others have said, being gay really shouldn’t be an issue at all. It’s a personal matter, like being left- or right-handed. YAY for Canadian Idol, where it evidently wasn’t an issue. Hope AI will catch up.
