Clay Aiken Drops New Album “On My Way Here” May 6

Clay Aiken’s new album On My Way Here is set to drop May 6. It was produced by Kipper, best known for his work with Sting and Chris Botti. According to Billboard, “The album will likely include the title track and a song called ‘Ashes’ but no other details about the project have yet been made available.”

However, this congrats from the Treehouse Music Group, reveals that Ryan Tedder, from One Republic (the hit “Apologize”)  who recently collaborated with Blake Lewis on his CD, co-wrote the title track, “On My Way Here”…

Here’s Ryan Tedder singing “On My Way Here.” Is it the same one Clay’s recording? Gosh, I hope not- I don’t like it.

This would be the typical crap I would expect on a Clay Aiken album. His fans will eat it up.

Sorry guys, I live in the world of “Clay could sing the phonebook and I’d buy a ticket.” I sure hope Lover All Alone is on this CD .. and not as a bonus through a single retailer.

Whoa. Clay looks like Barry Manilow’s long lost son in this picture, doncha think?

That’s an old song of Ryan’s…he didn’t write it just for Clay. I wonder how Clay ended up with it. Ryan said a while back that he’d just turned down working with Clay.

Here’s a YouTube link to Ryan’s version. primeminister’s won’t play all the way through for me.

I give Clay tons of credit. So many idols, especially runner-ups have tanked over the years. It’s pretty amazing he’s on his fourth CD with RCA.

    That cover art is horrendous.

  9. 9 Kat Mar 22nd, 2008 at 6:21 pm

Is that bad Photoshopping, or is Clay having plastic surgery to make him look like a woman? I don’t get it.

I thought he was trying to look like ’70s era Daryl Hall. Hah! Whooooo! Shut up!

Anyhoo, I LOVE Kipper! He’s the cutest cartoon dog EVER!! I didn’t know he also produced records.

I think Clay looks really handsome in that picture! Can’t wait to hear the new CD - I think it’s going to be wonderful. Not to everyone’s taste, of course, but I know it will be beautifully arranged and sung.

Me too! One of his strongest tracks to date.

And I like the cover art…it makes the best of his (kind of ugly) Spamalot look.

  13. 13 catdog Mar 22nd, 2008 at 7:47 pm

Clay looks very handsome on the cover. This CD will do well - at least it wasn’t “mandated” by Clive Davis like the last one was - all covers.
Clay picked his producer, Kipper, and it is all Clay’s doing. This CD was the original plan - but Davis had to have the last word. I hope Clay can get away from RCA soon. They never promote him - but actually he does very well without RCA’s promotion - strong fan base, wins every time.

  14. 14 abbysee Mar 22nd, 2008 at 8:33 pm

It will be all Clay’s doing if it sells. If it doesn’t blame Clive. The picture is indeed horrendous, and feeds those rumors some serious grist. Did he have final say on the photo too?

  15. 15 musicjunkie Mar 22nd, 2008 at 8:48 pm

Clay looks very handsome. Anxious to hear what Clay does with Ryan Tedder’s song. Lover All Alone is supposed to be on the new CD, hope Clive Davis doesn’t change his mind.

Ryan was misquoted and that statement was quickly removed from the article.

So many young good looking guys have these kind of rumors follow them for years and years. He sure isn’t the only straight guy out there being unfairly portrayed as gay by the gossip media and he said that he isn’t going to answer to those spurious allegations or answer questions about his private life any more. He said he isn’t gay and that the rumors aren’t true. After that, it isn’t something he’s going to pay any attention to. People will believe what they want to anyway. Some of the male stars like Hugh Jackman, George Clooney and Matthew McConnaghey have said that you know you’re a star when the gay rumors start to show up in the tabloids. So, welcome to the club, Clay!

I think he looks very handsome, but then some people think that chunky little Blake and little d. are hot, so there’s no accounting for taste.

  17. 17 jpfan Mar 22nd, 2008 at 9:09 pm

Do most straight guys dye their eyebrows to match their hair?

  18. 18 catdog Mar 22nd, 2008 at 9:13 pm

jpfan - I think his eyebrows are dyed for Spamalot. I have to say though that the wig he wears in Spam is hideous. But he’s still handsome!

  19. 19 abbysee Mar 22nd, 2008 at 9:17 pm

Undecided, I never thought of Clay as being good looking, so that would not be why the rumors might resonate for me. I also don’t subscribe to the claymate handbook so I really don’t know what he says or why. I do know that many say they are not, because they are afraid or ashamed to be. I also know that when people are in doubt they name other people that may be described as…..that is rather like perpetuating such rumors…. and not exactly a cool thing to do. And for the record most of these guys you named actually date women. Some marry, doesn’t mean anything, but just sayin’.

  20. 20 Lu Mar 22nd, 2008 at 9:22 pm

oh dear…. he’s got way better skin than me.

  21. 21 primeminister Mar 22nd, 2008 at 9:23 pm

In my opinion, the discussion about Clay’s sexuality has already been drawn-out for too long. If the man won’t talk, nothing new can be said; we can only look at his hair, eyebrows, or ears to come to any new conclusions. Personally, I’m sick of talking about whether he’s gay or not.

  22. 22 undecided Mar 22nd, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Clay is a natural reddish blonde. He dyed his hair dark for AI and now people think that is his natural color.

I mentioned those other guys, abbysee, because my point was that the gossips ignore facts like dating women and being married with children and spin it as a cover up. If they are determined to portray a guy as gay, nothing will stop them, including the truth. Clay has a history of dating girls and has recently, but the media ignore it because it doesn’t promote the image they want to enforce. A straight Clay doesn’t sell papers or draw in the hits on their blogs.

Look at Tom Cruise. Married multiple times with 3 children, yet he is still portrayed as gay by the gossips. His enthusiasm for his new girlfriend Katie on Oprah was mocked, the gossips declared his daughter was fathered by someone other than Tom and the new crazy couch jumper label was attached to him by the gossips. This man will live with it for the rest of his life, regardless whether he protests it or lives as a straight married man. He also learned that suing and winning makes things worse.

I think Clay drew the line 2 years ago and is sick and tired of the debate too.

  24. 24 catdog Mar 22nd, 2008 at 10:05 pm

undecided - people will think what they want. All the explanation in the world won’t help. And really, does it matter what his sexuality is? He is a great singer, a wonderful humanitarian who has a very loyal fan base. Many artists would envy these traits.

That wasn’t the point about airbrushing ^^^^^ if you were following along someone actually said that the cover was almost natural and posted a very bad example for comparison. Nobody was bashing anyone here so no need to bash Kelly asshe wasn’t being spoken about at this juncture. Seriously now, no wonder this crap doesn’t die. No need to call in reinforcements, it wasn’t necessary. We can talk about what we want to here!

  30. 30 musicluver Mar 22nd, 2008 at 11:08 pm

Heard some song snippets which piqued my curiosity.

The lyrics of the Tedder song are intriguing and
I can see why Clay was drawn to that song.

The cover is quite fine. Clay is very handsome
and I am glad he is sticking with the blonde hair
which is much closer to his natural color.

I am hoping for a mix of tempos on this album.
The RCA mandated album had too much of the same
    style and tempo.

  31. 31 undecided Mar 22nd, 2008 at 11:13 pm

Yes we can talk about what we want and any talk about photo editing and airbrushing has to naturally include Kelly. The My December promo shots and CD cover take the prize for most artificial and manipulated appearance in the history of airbrushing. They shaved off at least 40 pounds and that is no exaggeration. They gave her hair extensions, flawless make up, flattened her belly, stretched her legs to make her taller, reshaped her round face and lengthened her arms and torso. She was unrecognizable compared to her real self when they got through with her.

  32. 32 mj Mar 22nd, 2008 at 11:14 pm

They shaved at least 35 lbs. off Kelly Clarkson’s fat rear-end

LOL! Why? Like the poster said, all the celebrities get airbrushed, including all the Idols, why single out Kelly?

Ya all have been warned. Once.

  34. 34 Trina Mar 22nd, 2008 at 11:19 pm

ALL album covers go through airbrushing. Carrie’s CD covers, for as gorgeous as she is are heavily airbrushed. I went by the stagedoor for Clay two weeks ago, nothing wrong with his looks at all, but that cover is heavily enhanced.

I think it’s a nice cover. I’m hoping the song, “Back For More,” is on this album. It’s a great, radio, friendly song. It isn’t like they are going to put out any money to promote him on the radio anyway, but, it’s worth a wish.

mj……..my sincerest apologies if I offended anyone…especially you.

I only pointed out Kelly as she was the only Idol on that page and it was one of the more extreme examples on that site. I bear no ill will towards Kelly Clarkson. She works hard and deserves her success.

This is an Idol blog so I thought that particular comparison would be more relevent. For an example, I wouldn’t think if someone said something like “they hid Clay’s big ears behind his hair”, that he was being bashed -they would just be stating a fact.

FWIW……I did read the rules….I am new to posting here…but far from new to reading. I am just explaining my line of thinking as I see it’s intent was possibly misinterpreted.

I do think there are quite a few “digs” at Clay here….as in the “Barry Manilow’s son” comment, the gay rumors quip and the “plastic surgery to look more like a woman” questioning, that seem more like fire fuel than anything else, but yet my comment which was based on clear fact was singled out. These are just used for comparison to my post. I have nothing against these posters. It’s just to show why I am left a little confused.

Anyway, thanks for the warning. I appreciate your blog and will be extremely careful in the future.

Criticizing Clay in the comments of a post where the topic is Clay? Allowed

Complaining about the fact that Clay is being criticized in the comments of said post? Not Allowed

Calling your fellow posters “liars”? (Don’t go looking for it peeps, I edited the offensive line out of that post) TOTALLY not allowed.

Bashing another Idol (who isn’t the subject of the post in any way) in order to “get back” at fans who are bashing YOUR favorite Idol? Absolultely NOT ALLOWED

    Is that clear? Thank you.

Yes, but I have seen Clay with my own eyes 2 feet in front of me and his skin is flawless.
And adding: he is very handsome with a stunning profile.

  42. 42 thedingoateyobaby Mar 25th, 2008 at 10:58 pm

Oh Lord, I just saw this thread and I think I may be a closet claymate. God help me. I always wind up defending his ass and I have seen him in person twice and he really is quite handsome in an oddly quirky way and ’sides, his voice transcends everything else. Gay, straight, doesnt matter, the boy can sing. Thats all I care about and he fascinates me. I have no idea why, maybe its cause I also had no idea he was so tall and he’s quite funny. A lot of self deprecating humor.

  43. 43 stajay Mar 31st, 2008 at 9:42 am

That’s a great looking photo to use. Much better than most CD covers I have seen in recent years. He really is a very attractive man with some great features. Can’t wait to hear the CD. The couple of songs I have already heard pieces of are really good. Thrilled to see that Lover All Alone will be on it. It’s about time more people will discover that song that was hidden. Now if only it would be one released and possible qualify for some awards that it deserves.

  44. 44 CoreyJRoman May 8th, 2008 at 2:49 am

Sure… he has a great voice… if you like the sound of rhinos copulating. “Gay Achin” 3.0 needs to do a movie sequel to brokeback mountain. According to Billboard.com’s top 100 list he has sold almost as many albums as there are pages in a Dr. Seuss book. …and he has even been quoted saying “if I was invisible”… wait… he already is. BOOO! Clay sucks more than a 40 pound leech on a pair of elephant testicles. Oh well I guess if you are a minority with no taste and a desire to listen to gay people sing then… more power to ya Clay fans.
