okay, his face and hair look bizarre in the interview, like he aged decades.

Whatever Clay has been eating, there’s been alot of it.

I was glad to hear him give props to Broadway stars. That is the one comment Simon makes that really ticks me off. I do agree with him that some voices are more suited for the stage, but to make it a pejorative statement is simply ignorant.

    I enjoyed that interview.
    Thanks, mj!
I didn’t watch his season, so I don’t know him well, but I did hear him sing a couple of years ago at a finale and I liked his voice a lot.

Clay isn’t overweight at all any more. He does look a bit bulky in that big sweater and even more so in the Sir Robin costume, but you may not know that 2 layers of that thick chain mail plus the microphone transmitter packs add quite a bit of bulk under his tunic. The principals are double mic-ed and the transmitters, for the guys, are held in an elastic belt on their bellies. If you look closely you can see that what looks like a roll on his belly is really 2 squarish bumps.

The females wear their mic packs in their wigs.

Seeing the clips reminded me of just how funny that musical is. I wanna see it again. That album cover of Clay’s - he looks like a blond Barry Manilow. I was glad to see him give props to Broadway folks too.

Simon hasn’t used the “Broadway” put down for a while. He’s resorted to the cruise ship, theme park negatives when he thinks a contestant doesn’t have the potential to be a good recording artist. So, yay, Clay for telling Simon he can kiss your butt. I hope to hear Simon have to eat his words for a few others in the future as well.

There was a time when going Broadway was an insult to a singer, actor, etc., and Simon is no exception to that school of thought. However, Clay has made quite a splash on Broadway with excellent reviews and sellout performances. He has brought in quite a few people who normally don’t even frequent the theatre. Eric Idle knew what he was doing when he asked him to join the cast.

The musical is indeed very funny and he has mastered it like a pro. Who knew!

He looks and sounds focused and well-spoken in that interview. I am looking to hearing how he’s grown on the new album.
Spamalot is a funny, sunny show - I saw it two times with Clay in it and he, as well as the Broadway vets are terrific!

I love Clay, but after listening to Ryan Tedder’s “On My Way Here,” I’m not sure I’ll like the new material. The song was too “This is My Now” and I guess I was hoping for something better from him.

Also, I don’t like his current look but am glad the new CD cover was enhanced enough to make it look passable.

A lot can happen between the demo and the final cut. A good example is a song Clay recorded for Disney. In this clip you can hear the demo and also Clay’s version. The producer was brought to tears by it.

Clay is no where near being heavy. Funny he is back to wearing many of the same clothes he wore during AI and immediately after the show, and that was when he was his skinniest ever. Doubt a fat man could fit in them. As to the hair, it does look messy a lot now, but then that is what WIG hair tends to do to you. You have to remember, 8 times a week he is putting on and off 3 different wigs during a show running almost 2.5 hours. Leaves little time and ability to have a great hairdo. There are some new promo pics done recently in NY there are amazing looking with the blond hair. It just doesn’t get styled everyday under the circumstances. For me personally, give me the 2006 Christmas tour long hair any day — loved it. But this isn’t bad once you get used to the BLOND screaming at you.
