Constantine Maroulis – Tony Awards – Rock of Ages – VIDEO

UPDATE: No Tony for Constantine! The three kids from Billy Elliott won the award for Best Performance by a Lead Actor in a Musical. Check out all the Tony winners HERE.

Billy Elliott swept the awards, winning 10 Tonys. Sadly, Elliott’s composer and lyricist, Elton John and Lee Hall lost in the Best Score category…

I know, I know…pigs fly…hell freezes over…and Constantine Maroulis is nominated for a Tony Award! Heh.

His nomination, Best Performance by A Lead Actor in a Musical hasn’t come up yet, but he’s not favored to win. Those fantastic boys from Billy Elliot are probably going to take the award…

Pointy poses and cheesiness galore covered the stage as The cast of Rock of Ages performed a medley from the show. I gotta hand it to Constantine, he understands the power of CHEESE!

Does that narrator seem like a cheap knock-off of Jack Black, or is that just me? And check out the Liza Minelli cameo in the middle. YIKES.

Video after the JUMP…

Kinda spoiled the show for me, but lol I’ll survive. Just watching NPH’s closing number, that was slamming!

  • SexyEvey:

Eww.. Constantine IS creepy! I met him last year in L.A. during the AI finals backstage. We exchanged numbers and he text messaged me ALL night like a psycho stalker. My friends couldnt believe how crazy he was! Needless to say I did NOT meet up with him! I did get to go into AI headquarters though :)

    And no I’m not underage…

I was 23 then and im 24 now.
I was there handing out DVD’s from an AI series from season 6 that my boyfriends company had exclusive distribution rights for. It didnt do very well though. I live in FL, not in LA btw.

LOL. Are you underage? Hmm. I was gonna say that maybe he’s not my least fav Idol contestant ever (he’s has some good competition this year), but then… Connie just keeps on giving.

ETA: Good for you for not meeting him at the mall. ;-)

  • carolinacharms:

i don’t think he’s “insane,” i just think he’s insanely desperate to be famous. painfully so.

Ugh, he creeps me out. If there were just one story like this, I would be skeptical, but there are quite a few. You definately made the right decision not meeting up with him!

I don’t know much about musicals, but from what I’ve heard the boys who won were really deserving. Good for them :)

Constantine sounded great imo his vocals were right-on and his tone was clear he just has too much flamboyancy around him that is preventing him from really standing out but hey that’s broadway…good for him though.

  • erinnthered:

I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t find him attractive when he was on the show, and he hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t aged well. I still enjoyed that clip. Kill me now.

The Liza thing and the audience participation were pretty cool…I’ll join you.

I love NPH more than words.

  • Am I a bad person if I get happy that he didnt won?????

Anyway I obviously havent seem Billy Elliot but I do love the movie IÂ ´m happy for them, and I was reading an article about the kids in the times and they seem like totally sweethearts :)

  • houstonrufus:

Watched the show. Still kind of surprised he was nominated, though it’s not like hundreds of shows open every year. He sounded good, though. I’ll give him that. I’ve never been a fan of his. Still am not. This show doesn’t look like anything I’d want to see. I notice NPH cracked a joke about him at the beginning. I doubt this will do anything to really raise his cache. I mean, what else would they cast him in?

Good show overall, though. Despite some hellacious sound problems throughout the show.

  • RV65:

^^”I mean, what else would they cast him in?”

I could see him becoming huge in a part where he plays a bingo-number announcer…….

  • Sunn:

Yay! Norman Conquest won Best Play!!!!!!!!!

Congrats darlings! And Congrats to all the Old Vic directors and staff.

  • storm45701:

    NPH rules.

    Constantine? Not so much.

If he had won the Tony, AI probably would have invited him back finally (as they did with Jennifer Hudson after the Oscar, who should have told them to kiss her ass).

  • dusty:

Watched it last night. Constantine sounded really good and he looked thrilled to be performing the number on national TV.

The performers who did not sound good last night? The Mamma Mia trio. Yikes. Off key.

  • Allison:

Loved NPH. I missed Constantine during the broadcast, but kudos to him for getting that Tony nod. These type of Broadway spectacles suit him.

  • Kaykohl:

That’s his mom Constance standing next to him. She was his date to the awards show. He also took his brother, his brother’s wife and his sister.

I thought Constantine and the cast of Rock of Ages totally ROCKED the Tonys like never before. I’ve watched the Tonys for more years than I’m willing to admit and I thought they were fantastic.

The performance didn’t have the traditional Broadway feel about it, which made it really stand out from the rest of the performances. I liked it a lot.

  • oceana:

Connie has a sleaze about him that is offputting, but he’s also mad talented. I do feel proud of him, yes I do. He lit up the tv for me when he was on Idol, even if there’s things about him I don’t like.

I love the Billy Elliot movie, love it to death, wish I could see the play. I’m thrilled it won, thrilled for Elton John too.

I watched half the show, can’t wait to watch the rest tonight. NPH was okay, but a bit dull. I’d rather someone theatrical like Hugh Jackman, who put on a real show when he hosted.

  • SpenserJ:

    I could see him becoming huge in a part where he plays a bingo-number announcerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

    Bwah! Hilarious!

Constantine is so greasy, I feel like I need a shower just looking at him.

  • leome:

That mouth and lips of him.. that thing he does with it is so repulsive! Seriously, ewww!

  • TylerWV:

Im definitely no Constantine fan but I do like his hair. I like long hair on guys if its clean and pretty. I liked Bo’s hair and Aces. Think it ruined Ace’s looks when he cut his off. Constantine always creeped out mugging the camera. I say WTG for the nom though, great accomplishment. I agree he is desparate for fame and uses every avenue to promote himself, which I guess you have to do to make it. He was even at Joan River’s party when she was on Apprentice this year. Am I the only one who notices Constantine has either lost a lot of weight or had some surgery because his double chin or whatever is gone??? That excess flab he had under his chin in his Idol days made him look “weak chinned” to me. lol

  • MrRJ:

Constantine rocked the house last night. It is extremely hard to get a Broadway lead and he has had two. His talent is there. Personally, he may be as annoying as hell, I don’t know. But talent wins out.

  • For those who might be interested, the Original Broadway Cast Recording of “Rock of Ages” will be released on July 7th, according to Amazon…

  • Grammie Kari:

I am happy for the success that Constantine has gotten thus far. It is quite an accomplishment to get the Lead Actor nomination. Good for him! He proved that an Idol landing a job on Broadway can be respected by the industry and acknowledged for their work. Simon was so wrong the “Broadway” label being bad.

Oh, wait a minute, one of those theater guys was runner-up for Season 8. Imagine that.
