Danny Gokey May Announce a Record Deal Soon

In a pre-concert interview with the Allentown Morning Call, Danny Gokey hints at good things to come:

Danny Gokey, the only contestant among the Top Four from this season’s ‘American Idol’ not to sign a record contract, said today an announcement is imminent.

Gokey, in a telephone interview with The Morning Call to promote the ‘American Idols Live’ tour’s stop tomorrow at Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, declined to give details on the pending deal.

‘All I can say is there’s good news, ‘ Gokey, who finished third behind winner Kris Allen and runner-up Adam Lambert, he said from Albany, N.Y., where the tour plays tonight. ‘That’s all I can say. There’s good news on the horizon.

‘I’ve been told to keep my mouth kind of quiet about it, ‘ Gokey said of the coming announcement. ‘So that’s our little secret. It’s gotta be done properly; they’re not going to start talking about it.’

What we know: Danny has already met with Word, a Christian Label, and RCA Nashville. In July, Danny told MTV news that he found a producer he really wanted to work with–Mark Bright, the CEO of Word. Bright has also produced for Carrie Underwood.

But don’t assume that Danny is going Christian Contemporary.   Danny has been hinting strongly that he’ll go country. “There’s no twang in me, but I love the message that country [has], ” says Danny, “Country music kind of houses the message that I like, and I can still talk about the things in my music that still goes on in that genre…I never thought about it before, but I could see myself doing it, if we could just get the twang right.’

Independence day for the Idols not signed to 19 is August 20, I believe. So, there could be an announcement about a record deal from Danny any day now.
