Adam is only on his 2nd single — not his 4th. And Kris is going to have a platinum single. Adam has a gold album. These really aren’t things to sneeze at.
I still have my doubts that Danny’s will sell even as well as Kris — have to wait and see. People keep telling me country fans don’t buy singles, and maybe that’s so, but I have to wonder if people will buy his album in big numbers when the single isn’t really selling. Since I’m not a country music fan and don’t know a lot about how that market works, I realize I could be totally off here. But so far, although he seems to be getting good notices from all the promotion he’s doing, and his song is in the Top 40 on the country chart, it hasn’t resulted into big sales. So Iit is hard for me to think that his album is going to sell alot.
But, as I say, this is just the feeling I have right now. And I could be totally wrong — I have been many times before.
I have no predictions on sales. Hope Danny does well, but it’s been a weird year all around.
I guess I’m not a “true” country fan even though I’ve listened to it most of my life, since I also like Danny and like the music he’s putting out for his country CD — recognizing its not traditional country, of course. Hopefully Danny can find enough other “non-true” country fans plus his AI fans to make a decent career, lol.
Would certainly imagine Danny knows who Sugarland is, he was at the CMAs when they performed in November for one thing. (Looking really cute and happy to be there, aww – http://www.daylife.com/photo/0fmkbqf2jB5rI?q=danny+gokey.) And I would not be amazed if Jennifer and Kristian like Danny. They would not be the first country artists to say that. Notably Keith Urban (with Nicole), Rascal Flatts, Gretchen Wilson, Carrie Underwood, the guys from Lady A, and probably others I’m forgetting.
Here’s Gretchen, who met Danny at the Sound and Speed weekend events if not before. http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/47659
Traditionally country has a smaller audience which naturally translates to smaller sales. Big sales are made with the crossover artists; Taylor, Carrie, etc. I think Danny will do really well with the sales of his CD and I believe that this number will increase with the tour dates with Sugarland. I will be adding the iTunes version of this CD to my collection, as well as a “hard copy” from Amazon.
Danny’s album is currently #13 on the Itunes Country album chart and #130 on the overall albums chart on Itunes.
That is a big coup for Danny if he goes on tour with Sugarland. I know that is going to be very good for Danny.
Really happy for Danny. He has worked hard for this. Danny proved on the Idol tour this summer that playing live shows is one of his strengths. In as far as sales, Danny has performed at the level expected of a new artist. His video was just released 2 weeks ago. His album is not even out. They have not started the national promotion. And Danny has continued to increase in spins, and he has held steady on the charts.
Glad to hear Danny is doing relatively well on the iTunes album charts. That’s a higher placement than he made when his single debuted, I think? I don’t remember exactly, but I think the single made it to ~#23 when it first came out. Danny’s album has also been faring pretty well among amazon.com country new releases, I read somewhere he was within the top 10 there earlier today.
I think it’s a huge validation for a new artist like Danny when his record sends him out on tour with an established Country act like Sugarland. Danny has only been signed for about 6 mos. His album has not even been officially released yet. But Danny has worked really hard to establish his own identity outside of the AI bubble. I think he will do great on tour. The thing that Danny consistently got praised for from fans and critics during the AI tour was his ability to engage and connect with audiences.
Wow Sugarland… good for Danny. This will be great exposure for him… very smart.
I think that Danny’s single did peak somewhere around #23/#24 on the Itunes Country singles chart. I am glad that Danny is #13 on the Itunes Country albums chart. I hope that he will continue to sell more CD’s on Itunes as well as other places like Amazon.
Randy Travis…but maybe he’s not a “true country fan.”
Anyway, I’m excited about Danny’s tour with Sugarland. Can’t wait to hear if they are coming around the Carolinas.
I haven’t ordered the album from itunes yet, but I will. Someone said that they thought that they could get that same bonus track buying the cd in the store. I’m not so sure. I remember some idols selling cds at several stores that each had a different bonus track. For instance, the cd at Walmart would come with a different bonus track than the one at Target. It seems like Elliott had about three different ones selling like that back in ‘07.
The only bonus track I’ve heard is with the iTunes preorder. If it was on all the other sources, they shouldn’t be able to call it a bonus anymore. They should give us one more extra song to be the real bonus, yes? Lol.
Eeps – yes, Randy Travis. Knew there was another big one I was forgetting. Almost forgot Carrie for some reason. Shouldn’t have, that was a really cute pic with Carrie and Danny posing together when she came to visit the AI tour (…which, of course, a lot of us guessed to be a big ol’ hint at the time what was happening for Danny’s record deal…).
I’m not denying that the dude is talented or that country artists would find him to be talented. But as a country artist himself? I don’t buy it.
I think Danny’s voice is a gift. I don’t think he has to be pegged into a category, but his voice might be a natural for a certain category. He has a rich voice. I’m so proud of him. He just wants to sing like all of the idols. I wish him the best. Danny can sing anything.
I super enjoyed him on the Idol tour. He was really good.
That’s fine. Not everyone is going to like or buy Danny’s music. But I will say that Danny has been very open about his background in gospel music, and his move into the country genre as being a place where he could make music that has meaning to him. Some people will like it and some people won’t. But hopefully for Danny and his fans (myself included), enough people will like and buy his music for him to sustain a career and keep making music.
I saw him perform a couple of months back at a “country club” in NC, and I can tell you that the regulars there appeared to have no problem accepting Danny. They seemed to really enjoy his music and some literally seemed in awe of his singing. He does sound awesome live!
I think Danny’s going to open for someone who will then open for Sugarland. Who is Luke Bryan? I’m not sure if I got the name right. Looks like Danny will be with Sugarland in the Hartford area. Good exposure for Danny.

I thought I saw it might be Jake Owen at the Hartford CT date, with Sugarland and Danny. But Luke Bryan is also on some of the tour dates.
Luke is the country artist who had the recent top hit Do I. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uELq2NQ3lS8
It is typical in country to have several acts together. They will rotate throughout the 55 city tour. We have 9 dates so far for Danny, and he is paired either with Luke Bryan, Jake Owens, Julianne Hough.
Should be a great experience and exposure for Danny; just need to find which one I want to see now that dates are rolling in.
Wow, just heard about the Sugarland announcement! So awesome for Danny.
Will have to get ITunes now because of the bonus track.
Go Gokey.
Radio station in California is advertising a free concert with Danny next week if anyone’s in that area.
