Daughtry, Fantasia and Carrie Underwood Nominated for AMAs

Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia and the soundtrack for “Dreamgirls” (featuring Jennifer Hudson) were nominated for awards for the 35th annual American Music Awards on Tuesday.

Jimmy Kimmel will host the 2007 American Music Awards, to be broadcast on ABC Nov. 18.

Daughtry is confirmed to perform.

Daughtry and Carrie Underwood were nominated for multiple awards:

  • Album: “Daughtry” (Daughtry), “Minutes To Midnight” (Linkin Park), “FutureSex/LoveSounds” (Justin Timberlake)
  • Adult Contemporary Artist: Daughtry, Norah Jones, John Mayer
  • Breakthrough New artist: Daughtry, Plain White T’s, Robin Thicke
  • Country Female Artist: Martina McBride, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood
  • Country Album: “Let It Go” (Tim McGraw), “Me And My Gang” (Rascal Flatts), “Some Hearts” (Carrie Underwood)

Note that Daughtry is nominated in the AC category with John Mayer and Norah Jones, rather than in the Alternative category with Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance and the White Stripes…

Fantasia was nominated for Rap/Hip Hop Female Artist, along with Beyonce and Rihanna (I think Rihanna has got this one sewn up, considering this summer’s massive hit, “Umbrella”) and the album “Dreamgirls” featuring Jennifer Hudson was nominated Best Soundtrack. “Hairspray” and “High School Musical 2″ were nominated in the Soundtrack category. I’d lay money on the kids taking this one. )

Note that Daughtry is nominated in the AC category…rather than in the Alternative category…

As much as I think the AMA’s and the Grammy’s are a joke…

Congrats to the Idols nominated. I’m sure it feels good. :)

American Music Awards Nominations Try To Prove That Popular Music Is Still Somewhat Popular

Nominees for this year’s American Music Awards–the annual Dick Clark-produced awards ceremony where the idea of the “best” is thrown out the window–were announced today, and Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Linkin Park, and Daughtry led the field of nominees with four each. This year’s AMAs will be even more subject to the sway of street teams and crazed computer-attached teenagers, as voting has shifted from a poll of 20,000 music buyers to an online survey (presumably tracking down 20,000 people who actually buy music and know of all the nominated artists and albums, which span categories including contemporary inspirational, soundtracks, and the still-kicking “alternative,” proved too difficult of a task for the production company).

    Very interesting Boulder.

The EMA’s were flooded by american voters, to no avail their chosen idol didn’t make the cut, I suspect that all votes from outside Europe were discounted, what a waste of all that power voting.

I wonder how many extra cases of RSI have been reported?

I’m very happy for Chris. I’m sure he doesn’t have much of a shot of winning any of them but still it’s great to be nominated. Congrats also to Carrie & Fantasia.

Congratulations to Carrie, Fantasia and DAUGHTRY. Great news for all of them. It would be nice if they could all take home a win. Carrie should have hers signed, sealed and delivered. Fantasia may have a little more competition in her category, given Rihanna’s current popularity and DAUGHTRY should get at least one of those categories. The AMA voting is limited to one vote per IP and the European Music Award nominations were limited to 10 votes. It isn’t surprising that DAUGHTRY was not nominated for the EMAs. Their cd had just recently dropped there. They were also nominated in a solo artist category, not really an applicable one for a band.

Or MAYBE there were just a small handful of “American” voters, in which the amount of votes made by said “Americans” did not have much of an effect on the outcome. Could that be????? Oh, the possibilities!

Erm, knock off the defensiveness please.

Am I not allowed to state that I’m not “offended”? Why are other posters allowed to comment on how I must feel?

BTW, I’m not being defensive either. I’m in a GOOD mood.
