Daughtry – Home – New Years Live – VIDEO
Here’s Daughtry performing “Home” at the Revolution Lounge in Las Vegas, NV. This acoustic performance was aired during FOX’s New Year’s Eve Live telecast.
Of course, hardly anything was live, including this recycled clip, which was from April, I believe. I’m betting most Daughtry fans have already seen this, but what the heck. Here ya go for those who may have missed it. Happy New Year!

Why am I not surprise that (I blieve quite a number of Daughtry fans would have suspected it) that the Daughtry would not be performing live (as really being there) at the pathtetic and extremely lame NY countdown. Actually we have a (very) strong belief that it would be a live clip from one of their earlier performaces.
Why am I not surprise as well that the clip selected could be considered as one of their ‘off day’ performances. As we all knew – every professional singer (from time to time) would experience that due to a wide variety of reasons like physical fatigue, illness, uncomfortability and so. Likewise for Daughtry – even though i am an ardent fan, I have to admit that Chris really did not sound good (for whatever factors) here.
And at the back of my mind days before the countdown show – I keep having this nagging feeling that the clip to be selected would be a ‘flawed’ peformance chosen for certian reasons best known to whoever it is concerned. I do not want to talk too much about this- for I want just to stand up for Chris. As well as to say (vaguely) that a fair comparison of how each of the artist fared on the Fox’s countdown show is possible – if every one is peforming live on the same (or almost ) the day. Thats all i have and want to say it. Thanks.
I’m not a Daughtry fan, but they shouldn’t have rehashed an old clip for New Year’s Eve. Being that it’s a new year celebration, the artists should be shown live and in the now, in a celebrating fashion. That wasn’t very fair to Daughtry and his fans.
Are you implying that FOX selected a subpar Daughtry performance to make David Cook look good? That’s quite a conspiracy theory.
So, in other words, FOX would set out to intentionally try to hurt one of the biggest revenue producing artists of the company that produces the network’s lifeblood television franchise??
Well, I sorta think Chris had to sign off on it. I don’t think they can put your name out there as a star on their show without your consent. Maybe I’m talking out of my ass (I’ve been guilty before). So what I’m thinking is that he didn’t much care what they showed. I’m thinking it doesn’t matter except to those hugely invested Idol fans who love to critique each nuance of his pinky. Some will love the nuance for the truth it portrays. Some will point to the nuance as evidence that he sucks. I actually didn’t watch season 5 (the only one I didn’t watch) but he only reminds me of that time when I went to the Minnesota State Fair and spent hours whining that I wanted to see the goats. When I went into that barn, I found I was allergic to goats. I spent the next 6 hours with eyes almost swollen shut. I had many people thinking it was because my animal/jam/pie didn’t win….
Gingerly, I’m glad I wasn’t drinking anything when I read your goat reference. Anyway, I think most of us realize that this wasn’t Daughtry at his best but I don’t think that Fox knows any better. As someone pointed out on a different thread, they had to pick a performance that would make viewers believe that Daughtry was actually performing live in Vegas. No conspiracy there….Fox just sucks at coverage.
I dunno, I’ve seen him a few times on videos and he never sounded much better than this, so I’m not seeing the surprise here. Yeah, it’s not a great performance but it’s not OMG awful, I don’t think the main audience will even notice anything wrong.
My opinion is that they chose this one due to the kind of stage, but what do I know?
I’m with gingerly, I’d think Chris had to agree with this somehow.
The Daughtry inclusion was a last minute thing. I think FOX was trying to beef up their celebrity list and decided, “Gee, we have this performance in the can, might as well!” I’ll bet not much thought went into it at all–in keeping with how the rest of the show was produced.
I was not a fan of Chris’s goatey voice way back when and still am not. This performance was no exception, it was a hot mess.
After saying that I do have to say Fox did wrong in choosing this performance but maybe this is one Fox has rights to? I know Chris has better performances than this. I also know that on most of his songs that goatey voice is not there. Maybe it is more prominent when he is tired or under the weather. I do enjoy a few of Chris’s songs on his cd & think they are really great which is huge for me to say considering I could not stand him at all during his season on Idol.
I don’t think Fox sabotaged Chris in order to make Cook look good. *IMHO* Cook has the better voice & better range.
Most Daughtry fans were skeptical of a live performance from the first announcement of their inclusion. A few of us are in contact with the drummer and he had no clue about it. As a huge fan I will say that this was not a top vocal performance by any means…I have seen them live MANY times and this was off but so freakin what. Chris’ voice is amazing and 90% of the time he sounds awesome. Not that it matters but this performance was done when they had a lot going on right in a row, they were touring with Bon Jovi and snuck in 3 extra performance inbetween those concerts in a 5 day period. Like I said, it’s not an excuse, I just thought I’d throw it out there. I am one that thinks David Cook has an average voice, nothing special (this is JMO) but I in no way do I think that Fox would pick a crap clip of Chris to make Cook look good, I’d like to think that is ridiculous!!
I actually think it’s flattering that they included Daughtry like that, using them to make their line up look better….it’s a kind of a compliment.
I
Baaaaaaa!
I agree that FOX sucks at coverage. Granted it wasn’t Chris’ best performance, but it wasn’t David’s best performance either. I think FOX just threw this dreck together without caring one way or the other how it came out and the result was pure disaster.
Yesterday during the day, I happened to watch a Daughtry “Stripped” performance of “Home” on my local radio station’s website. Now THAT was a hot mess. He was on pitch but his voice sounded very weak until he got into the goaty parts. What they showed last night on Fox was actually a substantial improvement. But I have to say that if this is how he normally sounds live (and for me, so far it’s 2 for 2), I’m not particularly impressed. He sounds WAY better in the studio or, rather, they do a good job of producing him. Being one of a gazillion owners of Daughtry’s album, I have to say I’m somewhat surprised that he doesn’t sound better live, being an AI alum and all. (Note: I never saw S5 though I do recall the huge brouhaha that ensued when he was eliminated. Maybe he sounded better live on the show?)
Quite, right. I doubt very much that they included a “Grammy” winner in their telecast of Daughtry’s calibre to make Cook look good… I do think they included Daughtry in there because the musical performances were rock centered and he’s a big name in the pop/rock world and how many platinum “times” did he get? Plenty if memory serves me. Rock is good music in front of a crowd there to party and have a good time. Also that particular clip looked like it belonged and could have fooled many people if they didn’t know better. I didn’t know it was a previous clip until I read it here.
I think what we are all forgetting here is that fox is well faux. They are a network wanna be…sometimes the do ok..mostly they suck.
“Are you implying that FOX selected a subpar Daughtry performance to make David Cook look good? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s quite a conspiracy theory.”
BWAH! Noctem, my new lap top thanks you! Hee! That’s hilarious.
I hope Daughtry’s second album does well out of the gate or else David Cook will be implicated for that too. Maybe some fans blame another performer when their favorite gives a subpar performance? Daughtry can be better than that ^^. Hm, KLC did blame Carrie for her label loss and her career woes. But I doubt Chris Daughtry would ever blame David Cook for his deeds – Chris has more class than that.
Daughtry is great live. I don’t think this was the best clip, but I sure as heck don’t get the “goaty” comments. LMAO
It seemed like they added a few acts in just for ratings. But did that many people even watch this show? I know I switched over to the Dick Clark special. I could only sit through a few parts of this one on Fox.
I didn’t know it wasn’t filmed in Vegas so I guess they fooled me. I just thought that Chris’ voice sounded a little strained like last time I saw him when he was touring so much. Anyways, I was just glad to see them but it was a strange format this year. The show was lame other than Daughtry’s and DC’s performances.
Okay,I didn’t realize this was a prior tape either and didn’t watch closely last night. However, I had seen his pic on his website when mj had posted about his 2nd album and when I saw this on tv last night, thought, Oh, he shaved…(had grizzly thing going on in picture). So now it all makes sense.
I read on a Daughtry site that Chris was sick during this performance last spring. I wonder why they chose this performance. Oh well, sick or not I will listen to him anytime. :smile2_tb:
They chose this clip because it looks like it “fit” with the stage set-up (small with a cluster of fans) to make it appear as if it was “live.” I doubt anyone at Fox knew this wasn’t his best performance–it just fit and he’s a big name in the business.
Probably the only thing live about this show was Knievel.
Las Vegas loves their little stunts and their shows. This was all about the daredevil Robbie Knievel jumping over the Mirage’s volcano, which was “live” and not previously taped. This is what Vegas is –those big stunts or whatnot and New Years Eve would have had something LIVE in Vegas. The rest of the show was edited & pre-taped to work around that big “jump.” Knievel, would have had to keep testing the tracks, the wind, everything before he attempted to do the actual jump and would not be dictated by Fox to “do it now” the cameras are running. He called the shots for his own safety, not Fox–so Fox had to insert the pre-taped stuff waiting on Knievel.
As far as the musical acts go, regardless of who is on, exposure on TV is always a win-win for them.
