UPDATE: After the jump, video of David performing “Prayer of the Children”
David Archuleta performed at the 4th Annual Children Uniting Nations Dinner in Washington, DC on Tuesday evening, earning a standing ovation for his performance of “Imagine”, sitting at a piano that once belonged to Harry S. Truman.
“I have never accompanied myself on Imagine,” said David.
Earlier in the day, David spoke at the National Conference held at the Capitol building, along with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and and Children Uniting Nations founder Daphna Ziman.
Children Uniting Nations is a non-profit that focuses on foster children and other at-risk youth, pairing them with mentors and providing support.

I must give kudos to David for lending his name and celebrity status to benefit so many charities. It’s so very commendable. I think this is what he means when he says, “I feel like I already am on a mission.” Below is a listing of the many charities David has been a part of. If I’ve missed anything (and I probably have), please chime in.
1. Children Uniting Nations.
2. Rising Star Outreach. http://www.risingstaroutreach.org/archuleta David helped raise $15257 for the dental and sewage projects benefiting a leper colony in India. A new project revolving around education has raised $4703 so far.
3. DoSomething.org. David is the spokesperson for this organization addressing disaster relief lead by teens.
4. Invisible Children. David has been quite vocal about the organization in blogs and interviews and wears their bracelet to remind us of the children’s plight in Uganda.
5. Stand Up 2 Cancer. David was recently named a celebrity ambassador for SU2C. To date, fans of David have raised $47,800 in his name under team “Crush Kids’ Cancer – Archie’s Angels.”
6. Crush MS. David has lent his celebrity status to help draw attention to this cause.
7. Build-A-Bear Workshop. David recorded the song “Lets Talk About Love.” Each $1 donation to download the song benefits the Save the Children organization.
8. Bonnie Hunt Basement Auction. David participated in this auction to benefit cancer research. The set of personal items he offered for auction (a bracelet, a signed CD and poster, and his shirt) netted over $4000.
9. Clothes Off Our Back. David participated in this charity auction to benefit the Feeding America organization.
10. Dinner with David auction. This netted $4300 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
11. Seattle Children’s Hospital. David participated in a charity auction.
12. Idol Gives Back. Two inspirational group performances he did alongside the other idols were made available on iTunes to benefit the charity.
He’s mentioned make a wish foundation before and i think he’s visited someone in the hospital through that.
I think that’s so cool.
What a class act he is. Beautiful performance too.
truly beautiful…no wonder i loved him so much last year…class act!
ozarka- thanks for posting all of these so people can see how much of an impact David has made, and for people to remember to get involved.
I agree with the comments above- he is is a class act.
I’m so impressed that David has used his fame to shed light on so many important issues out there. As a teen myself, I can only wish that one day I can help others and make an impact like David. David is an example of how one person, even if they are only 18, can make a huge difference.
He is amazing, not to mention how much talent he has!
Yeah, David’s charitable work is pretty amazing. He’s gotten a lot done in a year. From an album to touring (domestically and internationally) to charity work. I admire him.
zillion thanks to ggdoosfan and froggie for finding this video..can’t wait to go home to see it . Now where is Imagine? hahaha
One of the things most impressive about David as an artist is how he expresses the core meanings of songs by emphasizing certain phrases and modulating others. It’s this kind of subtlety–controlling the dynamics of his vocals to maximize emothional effects–that puts him head and shoulders above any other idol imo. Others may have voices just as beautiful, but none have this ability to interpret with such preternatural sensitivity. This is why he can cover the works of the best–artists like Lennon, Elvis, Elton, Billy Joel–and more than hold his own.
Froggie, thanks. Yes, I remember that Make a Wish Foundation hospital visit he made to that little girl. That was so sweet of him to do that.
Ggdoorsfan, thanks for posting that charity tribute video. It was very nicely put together. I totally forgot about the Samurai Chef Cookoff he participated in recently which benefited the Murphy’s Kids organization until I watched that video.
praepos, I’d go one step further. Two things have always made David’s vocals special and unique, at least for me. One is certainly his instinct for sensitive interpretations. The other is just the pure sound and tone of his voice. There are plenty of beautiful voices around. But there is a special quality about David’s voice that punches me in the gut. It can feel and sound electric, like the very wavelength of emotion. And it feels so unforced and natural. That matched with his sensitive readings have made for some very touching and memorable listening experiences for me.
I watched that video again. I also forgot about the Children’s Place auction benefiting the Books for Kids Foundation. The book bag that David personalized with the drawings of little pigs raised $2000. LOL.
And I remembered a few more. He performed at the CHUM Christmas Wish Breakfast in Toronto. Those attending to event to see David had to bring in a new, unwrapped toy (or a cash donation) for the Wish in addition to a $10 entry fee.
David performed at the Cedars-Sinai Road to a Cure Gala benefiting stem cell research. Individual tickets to this event started at $500.
He also performed at the Holiday of Hope Tree Lighting. There was a special VIP reception to which guests had to shell out a donation of $100 or more for a private performance. The event benefited One Heartland, an organization committed to improving the lives of children impacted by HIV/AIDS.
I just listened to the song. Aww.. Lyrics are so heartfelt and meaningful, just right for the occasion. It is honored to be invited to sing in front of powerful law makers in DC. At a young age, David is establishing himself as a respectful young artist whose image is noble and admirable as a role model. Someday, I want to hear David singing ‘Prayer of the Children’ with massive choir and children accompanied by full orchestra.
no wonder he’s my all time favourite idol! :innocent1_tb:
I agree he was honored in D.C. There seems to be a growing respect for his work for various causes. A Forbes article recently on celebrity teens actually mentioned this aspect of his career:
“Imagine” please , anyone?
One day I hope to hear David, and prayer of the Children with orchestra. That would be sweet.
Houston, I agree with your thoughts on The Voice. There is a yearning quality that pierces the heart, whether on an inspirational number or a romantic song.
His voice is perfection, that is all. Listening to him sing makes me feel….heck, I can’t even describe it. He’s just a wonderfully talented young man. He is also impacting the lives of many in a positive way.
Praepos/Houston, where do you think you are with all that hyperbole? TheDavidChronicles?! ROFL. JK!! JK!! This was a brilliant performance.
