David Archuleta Blogs – A Mouse in the House Part Deux

Poor David Archuleta needs an exterminator stat. His first mouse encounter left him a little startled, but intact. The next one done ate his memories. From his most recent My Space blog:

Oh and another thing. I have this drawer in my room where I keep a lot of memories in, like tickets, cd’s, papers, letters, etc.. and I open it up to put some more stuff… When I open it, all my papers are chewed up and there’s a nest mice made from all of my memories! I tried saving as much as I could, but there was a lot of damage done and I had to throw a lot away :( . But it’s ok because it was an excuse to clean up haha. So now I’ve been decluttering my room, which is taking forever because more things keep coming into it. I still haven’t gotten a lot of the boxes that I sent home during the Jingle shows, and most of the stuff from tour is in boxes elsewhere. So my room is pretty much uninhabitable. But I’ll hurry and clear things up before we leave. But anyway.. I apologize for my disorganized rambling that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Aww. Sads. Not to mention: Eww.

The rest of the blog post is all about the awesome time David had Jingleballjamiming all over the country. He’s done now, and all set to spend the holidays with the fam.

David’s debut album David Archuleta has sold 430K so far, and should go gold in the next couple of weeks. Hey, maybe in time for his 18th birthday on December 28. It totally could happen–this weekend is the biggest retail weekend of the holiday season.

In January, David will be appearing at the RIAA inaugural party, one of many taking place in Washington DC to celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Obama. (Fantasia and Chris Daughtry are invited to Inaugural balls too.)

In the meantime, on the 25th, you can see David on the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade on ABC. He’ll be featured in a segment previewing the new American Idol attraction at Walt Disney World, Orlando FL, opening on February 12.

I read this yesterday at Rickey’s and was shocked that his house has NO heat in Utah of all places and then the mouse story! Wow, no offense but they need to take care of business at home for those other kids, I think that is a real shame.

I don’t get it. Heating systems fail on occasion and almost everybody has had to deal with a mouse getting into their house before, especially if there are no cats around. No doubt these little, everyday life problems are already resolved. David just wanted to share something interesting like he always does. It’d be a shame to read something into it that’s simply not true.

I think it’s quite a stretch to assume that, based on what David said in his blog, his siblings are not being cared for. Nothing I’ve seen of those children suggests that they are anything but loved and well cared for.

I know a lot of people (myself included) who have kept clean houses and had to deal with a rodent from time to time. It just happens. And I’m not sure that the “no heat” comment actually meant that they have no heat in the house. Maybe his parents are like my husband and like to keep it turned down low. Or maybe we all tend to like to pick these blogs apart and take everything a little too literally … lol.

    David A’s Blog

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure where weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to go quite yet, but weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re probably going to go somewhere that isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t snowing haha. I love looking at the snow, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no fun when you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have heat in your house

Why leave home when you can just get it fixed? I understand that mice find warm places in the winter but rodents carry diseases and should be delt with. Everyones health is at risk with a house full of rodents especially a kid with breathing problems. DA’s comments make me think that the upkeep and maintence of the home have been put on the back burner with all the events going on in his life. I just think that is sad when there are 4 other kids that have to be in the house while he is off starting his career.

Why assume that because the family is going on a family vacation, they’re not having it fixed? He never said that. Many people travel on the Holidays to reunite with other family, and from what David’s said, much of his extended family lives in Florida and Georgia, where it’s warm.

David detailed in his blog how he spent time putting his room back into order. Why assume they haven’t already gotten rid of the mouse or mice?

My sister lives in a fancy duplex in a commercial area in White Plains, has two kids and keeps a clean house. But a few months ago she left her apartment for an entire week because it had to be fumigated by professionals. Things like that happen. To assume that children aren’t being cared for in those situations is a huge stretch.

  • Autumn:

Not really sure why I’m being attacked for giving my opinion of Davids words. There is a whole lot of ‘assuming’ going on and not just by me. I am at least responding to what David actually said.

I’m giving logical reasons for why I don’t agree with your opinion. I’m not attacking it.

  • Here everybody a little info:

We had a nice conversation with Jeff and THEY ARE NOT FREEZING, David fanbase, so everyone can relax.

So there, they got heat, maybe David was talking about something else, or thinking in people that don ´t have heat and the meaning got lost in translation…and mice can be anywhere even in the cleaner places… last time in my friends house one decided to go out during my friends bday party and she is so clean you wouldn ´t believe she is our Bree… The scene was even funnier  ´cause she has a chihuahua…we didn ´t know what we were chasing for the dog or the mouse… that was a party to remember… :D

BTW Davidarchuleta.com has two new videos… happy holidays from David and behind the scenes ALTNOY…

  • Autumn:

I find it hilarious that people assume that I thought their place was not clean because of the mouse. I never said that or hinted at that. But there is NEVER just 1 mouse, where you find one there are others! I am glad the heat situation is resolved, Utah is not a place to let something like that go with the extreme cold they have.

I suppose I was one of those people. When I read this:

    and this

… I assumed that you thought the house was contaminated and unkempt.

I made assumptions about what you were saying and evidently I was wrong. For that I am sorry. It goes to show that we all make assumptions based on what people write. When David said “no heat” we all drew our own conclusions – some more extreme than others – and it’s likely we were all wrong. :rolleyes_wp:

And now I’m going to turn up my own heat and wrap some gifts. Happy holidays! :biggrin_wp:

  • soundscene:

DA’s house is fine; there’s apparently a long story dealing with the heat/air situation. I don’t know the whole story, but it’s not an unkempt thing or a neglect thing or anything. I hear their house is actually quite beautiful.

And there are cockroaches in my house. We can’t help it–just the area we live (Hawaii; former sub-tropical rain forest). No amount of bug spray will kill them all during certain times of the year. And centipedes (one of which crawled into my bed at night and bit me on the foot–dang, that hurt). In Texas you get those black crickets that infest everywhere during the hot months. I hated them when I went to school there.

I know you weren’t insinuating uncleanliness Autumn, but sometimes words don’t translate well in written form. Leads to misunderstandings. As far as I’m aware, though, David doesn’t have a breathing problem. He has audible breath because of his vocal chord problem, but he breathes just fine and actually has really great breath control when singing.

I hope people don’t start analizing every word he writes, could come to a point where he’d feel unconfortable sharing this stuff.
Some things he write may not be meaningful, but it’s fun. It’d be a shame if he had to start thinking twice about what he writes.

  • ^Man that would be a shame… after all his blogs are funny because his is honest…

  • hermy:

Yeah, I love his blogs the way they are. They always make me crack up and smile because I can totally picture some of the things he writes coming out of his mouth. The random things he says are always the best lol.
Besides, from personal experience, there is no better way to spend quality time with your family than when there is no heat since the place where the space heater is will be the best place to be lol.

One of my favorite memories is of being snowed in with the family – our pilot light kept blowing out and we spent several days in our living room with a space heater, electric blankets, games and puzzles. Despite the fact that I was a teenager at the time, I was actually kind of sad when it was over.

  • luckeee55:

What a wonderful blog. The young man writes as he speaks, with complete honesty and lack of pretension. So good to hear his family home’s heat is fixed. Furnaces so often break down during the coldest weather. As for his problem with a mouse, as a person growing up in the cold north of the country, we always had a mouse or two (or three) every winter. They sneak in under doors or in foundation cracks. It is very common in colder climes. Just check the hardware stores, every one of them sells mousetraps. And a bureau not disturbed for several weeks or longer would be ideal for nesting. Poor David lost his memory drawer, but he seems like such a positive person, he is able to turn even this into a positive opportunity to clean his drawer out. His family has to be wonderful to have turned out such a superior young man.

Another take on Archie’s mouse problem…. hahaha!

  • ozarka:

^ Haha! That was really cute, Jab. Berry seems to have adopted David’s blogging style. Lol.
