David Archuleta – Christmas Concert – VIDEO
David Archuleta began his Christmas tour last night in Salt Lake City, Utah. Here he is singing Sting’s “Fields Of Gold”.
In the mood for something more Christmasy? After the jump, check out “O Holy Night” plus, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”…a duet with his mom, Lupe!
Video after the JUMP…
O Holy Night
Have a Merry Little Christmas – Duet with Mom!

Speaking of sets, below is a shot of the set list posted on stage to keep the performers in synch. Someone’s got a sense of humor. Two of the songs were posted as “pad thai a pan” and “riu riu chewbacca”…

All 3 of the vids were great but the duet with his mother was my absolute favorite of the 3. Yep, I’m a sap too JudyOhio.
Didn’t notice the diva hand(s) first time, so had to go back and watch again. You are so right! Thanks for pointing it out, lol.
If you look at iTunes’s popularity bars for Christmas from the Heart, you’ll find that “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is the most downloaded song from the album. It is over twice as popular as the next most downloaded single which is “Joy to the World.” I think we can assume that most of his devoted fans will be purchasing his entire album. People who are just casual fans or just passersby will be the ones cherry-picking what appeals to them the most. “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is the most popular by a very wide margin. So I think it makes sense that it was included in the sampler sent to the radio stations. It is those casual fans or passersby that we want to attract to David’s music. We can’t rely on our personal tastes. Popularity bars such as those on iTunes are a more reliable gauge of what the general population likes. I absolutely love “Pat-a-Pan” too, but out of a maximum possible of 12 popularity bars, “Pat-a-Pan” received only 2 bars. 10 of the other songs on the album have more bars then that song.
ETA: Case in point… Fans voted for ALTNOY to be the 2nd single and Jive obliged. It did not do so well as we all know.
Thanks for all the videos of last night concert. Wow, David A looked so handsome. I love the suit and duet with his Mom was pricelss.
good luck to a very sucessfull Christmas Tour David A. Can’t wait for Dec 2 in Anaheim, Ca.
Ok, this young man is about the most phenomonal singer I have witnessed in a long time. He held on to every note with every single glorious song. This song MJ posted, Fields of Gold, is just one of many which were sheer perfection and gloriousness.
Hope to see MJ post Ave Maria and Pat a Pan too! That would be neat if even a comment or two. Oh well, thanks for giving some attention to the masterful artist, David Archuleta, who glows in every way!
He is one of a kind! He is beyond!!!!
ozarka, you are missing one point. The reason why “Have yourself a merry little Christmas” is the most popular is because it received the most advertising attention. If Pat a Pan had been given this same attention there is not doubt it would have been much more popular.
But, to be honest, Pat a Pan is not a traditional American Christmas song, and so it is not recognizable. After people purchase the album and listen to it, those that are in to more contemporary, up to date music would appreciate it’s uniqueness. This may not attract to older as it will to younger. My spouse, listened to the whole album and commented that Pat a Pan is the most unique song on this album and it should be on radio. Radio tends to play classics though. This song is just different and may have some even grander designs for it. I could see it used in musicals or in some dance or movie, really? That is how grand it is. It’s beyond radio.
Ozarka, another note in regards to itunes. People purchasing single songs rather than whole album are going to hear the little snippets, or even rely on past judgements of what is more popular Christmas songs. Automatically Silent Night, O Holy Night, HYAMLC, First Noel, Joy to the World, are going to sale more for the fact that they are more popular songs. So, I disagree that Pat a Pan is not liked by general public. Everyone who hears it at concerts have loved it. It’s just now getting some exposure. Give it some time.
Melodies of Christmas would be a better way to compare to Pat a Pan. Melodies has been sent to radio and advertised and it has sold more on itunes. That is proof that the advertising makes the difference. For Melodies is an Archuleta song and not a classic. So the higher sales numbers with that song versus Pat a Pan means that this is strictly advertising. Melodies, Joy to World, and HYAMLC all have largest sale numbers.
Another note: Pat a Pan is very short. Could this be another reason?
And…my favorites of the first night…Ave Maria, Pat a Pan, The First Noel, and O Holy Night~
Oh, and I almost forgot, Riu Riu Chiu! That song is another example of not getting recognition. That song sung by David is amazing! He has some kind of rhythm connection with these spanish songs. Just watching his body move to that song while he sings, it’s a whole different vibe and his body moves to the beat completely different than any other songs. He was moving like this in his ALMA song too.
He’s got something going with these spanish songs.
I would love to see an album in spanish pushed with him. Spanish cd’s sales are huge!!! Spanish music sales more than american. And in most areas of the country spanish radio stations are in the top three. They almost always have higher viewing audience than any pop radio stations.
Wow…what a great start to his Christmas tour. I love the selection of songs…can’t wait to see him in Ann Arbor. This will be only the 2nd time seeing David perform since “Ford Day”!
I really loved his rendition of “The Riddle”….this is definitely the type of music I see David performing in the future.
Ditto to everything “Laurie” said!!
Ok, just rewatched Pat a Pan. That song is amazing. David has to sing it so so fast, and it’s a tongue twister of a song. But the other thing I like, is it has very few runs. It’s just straight cut, precise, and I like David doing something unique like this. I know many love David’s ooh’s ahh’s and hmmm’s, but he does that a lot. And I prefer less of those and more of the cut and dry as in Pat a Pan. And I love the lower range in this song. He does it so well. More of it!!
Davidx2, I agree with you on more songs like The Riddle for future. I think this is David’s idea too.
Stan,
I know exactly what you mean about Riu Riu Chiu. He had some awesome latin moves on that song.

DavidArchie Tonight I had a bit of a challenge… Haha. But still so glad I got to perform again in Utah! Thanks so much everyone for coming! about 1 hour ago from txt
I wonder what he means by “challenge”?
Will, there was some sort of technical problem with the music near the beginning of Pat-a-Pan. There was a brief moment of time when the music just stopped. I think it had something to do with the guitarist who disappeared for a while and then came back. It threw him off for a bit but he soon recovered when the guitarist returned to the stage and started strumming.

Yeah. After the first verse in French, the guitar is supposed to come in…but it didn’t. Steve had some sort of problem with his guitar. The drummer kind of saved the day tonight. It got the audience clapping to give David accompaniment until Steve got back out there. haha!
Here it is last night for comparison

The lyrics of this song are amazing. David A touches souls in many ways and one of them is his choice of songs. It’s long but I want you to read what he is singing about. I see him writing songs like this someday.
“There was a man back in ‘95
Whose heart ran out of summers
But before he died, I asked him
?Wait, what’s the sense in life?
Come over me, Come over me?
He said, “Son why you got to sing that tune?
Catch a Dylan song or some eclipse of the moon?
Let an angel swing and make you swoon
Then you will see, you will see”
Then he said, “Here’s a riddle for you
Find the answer: There’s a reason for the world
You and I”
Picked up my kid from school today
Did you learn anything? ?Cause in the world today
You can’t live in a castle far away
Now talk to me, come talk to me
He said, “Dad I’m big, but we’re smaller than small
In the scheme of things, well we’re nothing at all
Still every mother’s child sings a lonely song
So play with me, come play with me”
?And hey Dad, here’s a riddle for you
Find the answer: There’s a reason for the world
You and I?
I said, “Son for all I’ve told you
When you get right down to the
Reason for the world who am I?”
There are secrets that we still have left to find
There have been mysteries from the beginning of time
There are answers we’re not wise enough to see
He said, ?You looking for a clue? I love you free?
The batter swings and the summer flies
As I look into my angel’s eyes
A song plays on while the moon is hiding over me
Something comes over me
I guess we’re big and I guess we’re small
If you think about it man you know we got it all
‘Cause we’re all we got on this bouncing ball
And I love you free, I love you freely
Here’s a riddle for you
Find the answer: There’s a reason for the world
You and I “
^^^ Yeah.
I really liked Prayer of the Children from last night with just him and the piano. You could probably hear a pin drop while he sang that..

Wow. And it looks like that may stay in the set for the tour? Hope so. It’s not good to wish away entire weeks of my life, but … c’mon Dec. 8!
