David Archuleta Co-Writes Songs for his Upcoming Album, Auditions Musicians

It appears that David Archuleta plans to stick close to his home base in Utah as much as he can. According to the fan site, Archuleta Fan Scene, David auditioned musicians from the Salt Lake City area over the weekend:

Fan Scene has learned that David Archuleta auditioned musicians last Saturday, October 11th in his hometown of Salt Lake City. Twenty hopefuls from area colleges, music schools, and the local music scene showed up with their instruments, and dreams in tow. David’s been considering putting together a group of quality musicians from the area so he can stay closer to home for practices and rehearsals. Rumor has it there were several skilled musicians in the lot who are up for consideration. I wonder which of those lucky musicians will be getting a phone call from David Archuleta.

Also, according to AFS, a couple of songs that David Archuleta co-wrote will make it on to his upcoming album, due to drop November 11.

    I would think he could audition people from anywhere. As talented as he is and as successful as he promises to be, I’m sure lots of musicians would be more than willing to move to SLC.

    I kinda like it because it seems like he’s promoting local talent.

    Randy said one time in his interview that SLC got a lot of great musicians in American Idol audition for upcoming season. Paula also said it too but i dont’ trust her…She just says whatever Randy said anyway.

    Sounds like things are really coming together nicely for Archie. It’s great that he will be able to stay closer to his family during this process. :)

    It seems this is a great idea. I think Archie will be fine for a long time~. Thousands die-hard core fans, great musicians, and good recording/management companies. Go David!!

    Celeste, I just went to Wikipedia, and the list is a little different from what you have listed.

    Confirmed tracks

    * “Crush”
    * “My Hands”
    * “Ruined Me”
    * “Angels”
    * “Hold On”
    * “Looking Through the Sliding Glass Door”

    On October 14, a clip of the track “My Hands” and a new track entitled “Touch My Hands” leaked on ratethemusic.com.

  11. 11 abbysee Oct 15th, 2008 at 11:45 pm

    Yeah Angels! Yeah Ruined Me! I hope this is correct. Wiki can be wacky sometimes. I hope one of them is a good big sweeping tearjerking ballad. I cannot wait for this cd. Really.

    I want the Spanish version of Angels and Crush!

  13. 13 E Oct 16th, 2008 at 12:05 am

    but yay to Ruined Me. Hope wiki is correct on that.

    I want the Spanish version of Angels and Crush!

    If they made a spanish version of Crush and Angels I´ll be really mad at Archie… sorry, songs that are traslated lost his meaning…I have listen to the spanish version of angels and I hate it but Angels in english is one of my all time favorite, the song in spanish totally lost his meaning… Angels english= love, angels spanish=hate…

    Do not trust wiki. It is always changing. if you want, even you change that list.

  16. 16 abbysee Oct 16th, 2008 at 12:30 am

    Cruzceleste, I don’t understand. I’ve heard the song in spanish, by someone else of course, and considering I have very rudimentary Spanish, I don’t understand your objection to the translation. Do angels themselves have a negative meaning in translation, or do you just hate the translation? Not trying to be silly, just curious. So many have been clamoring for this song, or any song in spanish.

    Thanks for the warning, clee. I just witnessed it change over and over again after refreshing several times. It went through some very weird and objectionable titles. So, yes, do not trust that list!

    Celeste:

    wo I wasn’t expecting that reaction lol

    I guess a lot of people like abbysee mentioned are just waiting for any Spanish songs from David. Do you think he can succeed in the latin market?

  19. 19 cruzceleste Oct 16th, 2008 at 12:56 am

    ^^I´m not again him doing any song in spanish, but when they traslate the song to spanish, according to the Robbie Williams translation that he did in spanish the song become so sappy, the message of hope is totally lost in traslation, and become just another crappy love song, nothing againts love songs but the true Angels is not that kind of cheap song and the lyrics sound way off… is just wrong…and if he is doing a song in spanish to the altin american audience I dont think Angels if the right choice to sing, since this one was a really big hit in America in the original version by Robbie Williams, so a lot of people already know the song, and a winner of La Academia, a Reallity Show of Mexico like American Idol, Yuridia already did the song for her album

    Believe me the songs if just bad in spanish…

    And I don´t think there isa work that can traslate a crush in spanish, since the rumor started I have eing traying to figure it out how they will do it and still nothing…

    If he is going to have a song in spanish please let the song be writed by a person who knows the language, if is not if just sounds bad…

  20. 20 E Oct 16th, 2008 at 1:06 am

    Actually angels could also be talking about a woman, and it would still be a beautiful song. I could be wrong, but didn’t Robbie Williams wrote it with a woman in mind? but I do get what you mean.

    Thanks Celeste. I’m sure Jive is like a million times smarter than we fans and would no doubt have figured out what not to do list.

    I do think he can do it… but I will raether have originals songs made in spanish, that songs that are write in english, and that are crappy translated to spanish, I mean we understend english, so trying to force down the lyrics to fit the music even when the meaning is totally lost is just bad…Latin america have awesome songwriters to work with him, Shkira, Alejandro Sanz, Silvio Rodriguez, Fito Paez…so he can work with those…

    Thanks Celeste, your input in appreciated. I do want him to do a song in Spanish as I think that some people are more impressive singing in Spanish, like Marc Anthonny. I like his songs in English, but in Spanish he is just better somehow. I would love to see what David could do with an emotional Spanish ballad.

  23. 23 yaminacookie Oct 16th, 2008 at 6:24 am

    Well. I am impressed. Simon was right - he really is a “trier”. It takes a lot of guts for him to put some of his own original work on this debut album. And talent for getting the record company to include them. Also, basing himself in SLC will keep him grounded and out of that hideous LA pop scene. My hat’s off to you Archie. What you’re sellin’, I’m buyin’.

  24. 24 terps Oct 16th, 2008 at 7:44 am

    Don’t trust Wikipedia, anyone can go on their and change it. I’m glad Ruined Me is on the album though :clap_tb:… if it’s true :ponder_tb:

    Marc Anthony has a great voice, and he is an awesome writer, but he has total control of what he writes and is very careful on the way that he translate, so does Shakira, and Eros Ramazotti … what I mean is that this people are really careful that with their songs if they do it in a different language, if that the meaning remain untouched…They control the different language so they give their opinion and sometimes rewrite the full song so it doesn’t sounds weird… Is difficult you have to know the language… by example I know that Eros speak at least 3 language, and Shakira speaks 22…

    Eros Ramazotti will be an excellent writer for David, his ballad are just beautiful, and I do agree that it seems like Spanish singers are really expressive with their music.Luis Miguel is really famoud for that, but I would raether have David go in to the Juanes kind of music.

    An excellent example for good translation of a song is:

    Eros Ramazzoti Cosas de La Vida:
    Spanish & english (duet with Tina Turner)
    Italian & english

    I am surprised that David would limit the talent pool to Salt Lake considering he has is one of the hottest up and coming artists this year. I would have thought that he and Jeff would want the best of the best to kick off his career. As someone up above said, a really talented musician would move for the right job.

    It is a nice gesture don’t get me wrong but limiting IMO

  27. 27 LK08 Oct 16th, 2008 at 11:42 am

    Autumn- I am not sure he is limiting the talent pool to SLC. He just did auditions here first from what I understand.

  28. 28 Bookaholic Oct 18th, 2008 at 5:00 am

    David’s blog said that he was auditioning musicians for practices and rehearsals. It didn’t say for performances. So, he may have musicians that he works with there, and then tour and perform with others or a mix of the two.

    I think he’s making a wise move because if he didn’t stay in Salt Lake, he would give up any hope for a normal life. Utah is where he’s lived for 11 years. His family and friends are there. Living there will also keep him largely out of the media frenzy that is California and New York.

    He’ll have a much better chance of having an ordinary life which is what I think he wants. David’s not after fame or money. He just loves to sing and touch people’s hearts with his music.
