David Archuleta – Crush – The Tonight Show with Jay Leno – VIDEO

David Archuleta performs his single “Crush” on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The band was a bit overpowering, and he seemed a bit nervous, but nevertheless–great job David!

David sounded great as always. But the band seemed to be rushing the song a bit and it seemed David was trying to keep up (breath wise) towards the end. I am still so impressed that he is only 17. Also, I must say that both David A. and David C. have singles out right now, that are not easy songs to sing live. Having said that, I think they both sound better live than many popular artists sound when performing live. Great job David A. This girl is a fan!

Smallie, he didnt use the mic stand on AI but did on tour though. He always had at least one hand on the mic during wysylm, except for that big note lol. There was more foot stomping here too lol.

I watched Leno last night to basically see Archie’s performance. After seeing it for the 2nd time, I thought the band was overpowering on the chorus but Archie did a great job!

I think the overpowering is more in the second half of the song… I thought the band would be just 3 members, was surprised to see 5 people there. Why 2 guitars?
I’m sure he was nervous, but who wouldn’t? He has a lot to improve, but it’s the first appearence and he sang good.

I think he only recently, in the last week went to rehearse for the first time with his band. Someone said he had only practiced about 4-5 times with them. That is amazing. I am sure it takes a while to get used to each other and the sound in every place is different.

Wow that version is SO CLEAR…both audio and video

I saw the nerves during the first verse, but only a bit, and then after that I thought David did great. I agree about the band. (Actually, I thought that same thing for about half of Jason Castro’s performances on AI last year.) This is the first time out–hopefully, we aren’t the only people noticing that the band mics need to be turned down a bit and David’s needs to go up.

One thing I thought last night watching the broadcast–David is so good looking.

I tried to stay up for the performance and fell asleep, lol. Archie did fine for being the first time singing “Crush” on tv. He was a little nervous in the beginning but once he got into it, he was his normal amazing self. The band seem so far back from him. They need to move up closer, lol. Archie is looking really cute in that outfit, I am sure the youngins are swooning over him. Leno did look like giant next to petite little Archie. Awwww….that was cute though.

Hmmm, no itunes bump from the Leno appearance. Crush the single is in the same position in all music and in pop. And, the DA CD is in the same position in all music and in pop. I was expecting a little bump.

I think that the non-invested watchers thought Archie did a great job on Leno. I did. On my TV, the band only seemed overly-loud a few times on the chorus. One spot when the backup singers were supposed to take the lead, the back up singers were not loud enough. They need to step up and fix that before Jive gives Archie a backing track for the song.

Good going on the first appearance, Archie.

I must say I enjoyed the mic stand work much more than the holding-the-tummy pose, LOL.

K4dc – Me too! Work the mic stand David! LOL!

    From a poster at NotingDavid…

I was fortunate enough to be there too, and echo kindredspirità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s account, with one thing to add: When I played it back on TV, the band seemed to overpower David in parts; but live was just about perfect. He sounded clear and strong, his voice filled the entire room (as usual), and blended with the band beautifully. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s almost as if they turned him down for the broadcast.

I found this when googling about Lenoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s broadcast quality regarding audio:
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rather than go all-out with 5.1 surround sound, The Tonight Show is broadcast in standard Dolby 2.0. Realistically, there would be little to no benefit of employing more complex sound for a program like this. The vast majority of the show is comprised of Leno talking with his guests. The short band segments before and after the commercials and the musical guests, who usually have five minutes or less to perform, do not warrant or require better audio.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t find anything more current than this 2004 excerpt, so I would think theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve upgraded since then. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d always heard about Lenoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sound quality not being the greatest, and was admittedly a bit nervous for him and what people would think of the broadcast. But he did GREAT, to which you can all attest. So proud of him. He rocked it!
