According to All Access (You have to be registered to see it…click on the Top40/M format and New Releases on the left.) David Archuleta’s first single, “Crush”, will be officially released to radio on August 12. FMQB reports it will be available for airplay on August 11.
“Crush” is the single from David’s upcoming album, due in November (November 4, according to Amazon).
Checking out the ASCAP listing for “Crush”, it has Dave Hodges, late of the band Evanescence–and famously the subject of Kelly Clarkson’s blistering single “Never Again”–listed as a writer. Hodges wrote “Because of You” and “Addicted” with Kelly for her album Breakaway. ASCAP also lists two other writers on the cut, Jess Clayton Cates, and Emanuel Kiriakou.
More more on David’s upcoming album–it’s been reported that he’s working with The Underdogs, Kara DioGuardi and Ryan Tedder of the band OneRepublic.

Yay, thanks! So excited!
YAY, this is so exciting……a summertime ditty, called Crush, yep. Sounds good to me!
“Crush” the competition Archie!
Yes, what an “ironic coincidence” Simon says he crushed the competition and Seacrest calls him Crusher about half a dozen times. These guys aren’t even trying to be subtle any more.
WOOT WOOT!!! I’m soooo excited about this news!!!! We love you, Crusher!

Somebody over at one of the “other boards” pointed out that EMANUEL KIRIAKOU co-wrote the cheesy ballad Ordinary World for Katharine McPhee’s album.
For reals? There is no way Simon and Ryan knows about an nonexistent song on top 4 week. But I love, love the coincidence.
CAN WE HEAR IT YET CAN WE HEAR IT YET?!?! ?!?! ?!?!
I’m not a huge fan of Archies, but, the kid is totally adorkable, and, photogenic.
Why is Archie’s single going to be released first than Cookie? Shouldn’t be the other way around?
Kristy Lee Cook is also releasing her single first. *scratches head*.
It should be Cookie first and then the others, but what do I know.
I like Archie by the way, such a sweet kid. But I don’t understand why the winner is the last release.
MJ, thanks for that hat pic. Put me in mind of Frank Sinatra, only cuter!
The way I see it, Kristy isn’t going for Mainstream top 40 and her music is in totally a different genre so it really shouldn’t make any difference where Cook and Archie are concerned. Her releasing a single first shouldn’t diminish Cook or Archie at all. Remember too that since Archie came in as the runner up, he didn’t get a single after the finale just like Blake didn’t last year. It was rumored for a while that Archie’s first single was going to come out in this summer but we just didn’t know when till today.
Cookie talked about trying to have a single out in late September if everything was going well in the studio with all the writing and recording.
Why are ppl complaining that Archie’s single is before Cook’s? I thought Cook’s single was TOML. Can someone have multiple singles? Definitely can’t wait for Archie’s though.
I don’t get it either. Technically, this is his first single. It’s just that sometimes these winning songs don’t do as well as this was has done. It’s just not the first single of new material that we want to hear before the album drops. lol
Well, congratulations to Archie’s fans. I bet that no matter what the song is like, it’s going to sell very very well.
I’m ready to reserve judgement about Archie releasing his first single before David Cook, but if he also releases his album first, something is definitely up.
Cook has proven himself highly marketable and loved, I don’t see why TPTB would handicap him, so I want to believe they won’t… but we’ll see.
I really don’t think anything is foul here IMO because of what we knew beforehand about this song of Archie’s coming out this summer and indeed it is. His single had to come out at some point since he didn’t have a runner up single and in fact I was beginning to wonder when exactly his song was coming out and now we finally have that question answered. I am not worried at this point honestly and as mj said, don’t count on that 11/4 release date for his CD sticking. It will probably change a few times and Cookie’s may as well. He was talking in terms of late September release for the single possibly depending on the progress of the writing and recording sessions and so this is why I’m not concerned at this point.
I’m actually interested in hearing Archie’s song myself. :)
I’m looking forward to hearing Archie sing an original song.
Well, the thing that bothers me is that we don’t even have a tentative release date for Cook. It makes it feel like his album is that much behind, even if that’s not the case. I hope we get first single news and album release news soon, because right now it’s pretty much all speculation.
Don’t worry Cook fans, I’m almost positive Cook’s album will be released before Archie’s since he has 19E supporting him there. Plus, you guys already have TOML. Meanwhile..the long wait for Archie’s.
The only thing I can think of is that ‘good things come to those that wait…’
Yes KLC and Archie are putting out singles in Aug., however, I strongly believe that whatever DC puts out will be better than we can even imagine! (this comment is for the DC fans, not meant to stir up any competition, esp. since that part’s already over.)
I have no doubt in Cook’s ability to write amazing songs with great mass appeal.
I am, however, starting to have doubts about the people in charge of his career path. I hope those doubts are unfounded.
It is beginning to look like he is getting Taylor-ed, although I have no idea why.
But, on this topic, good luck Archie.
Cates and Kiriakou wrote Just To Feel That Way for Taylor.
Kiriakou wrote Nick Lachey’s What’s Left of Me.
Hodges co-wrote 1000 Miles for Blake Lewis.
Sounds like it’s gonna be a ballad.
Kiriakou and Cates also worked together on the Backstreet Boys song from last year called Inconsolable.
Kiriakou also co-wrote Jordin’s Permanent Monday.
And, yes, Cates was involved with the McPhee song.
Definitely sounds like a ballad.
I think it’s very premature to think that, just based on one single release date. If his album is also pushed back, if he doesn’t get promoted properly (so far 19 has done a great job with his promotion), then I’ll see cause for concern. Right now, it’s not optimal, but I don’t think it means anything as dramatic as that.
He has the Skechers deal, he has creative control of his album… He’s not being Biced, that’s for sure, and I don’t think he’ll flop, either. He’s very marketable, and knows how to write strong songs. If they won’t screw him over royally, he could be one of their biggest stars yet.
We aren’t moving the hand-wringing party over Cookie to this thread, ok? Let’s stay on topic.
I’m probably in the minority here but the only singles I’m looking forward to are MJ and Carly.
I’m wondering if a single this early may not be a wise idea. When does Archie have a chance to run to radio stations to promote it and when does he have time to shoot a video amidst a tour and recording the album?
I really like David Archuleta. I think he’s got an amazing natural tone and ability. But this crowd of writers sounds kind of sappy. Fingers crossed.
I also wonder about releasing a single by him and KLC on the same day. What’s the logic of that? I know that their respective audiences differ, but still. What would one week have meant to either of them? (or to either of their teams, I guess–man, it’s such a marketing racket for a product, isn’t it?)
It doesn’t matter that David and Kristy have the same adds date. Their songs are going to be on different formats. His song is going for adds on Top 40 and hers on Country.
Really looking forward to this! I can’t wait to see what direction TPTB plan to take David right now.
Good for Archie, I’m really interested to hear his single :) Very promising to hear David Hodges wrote on the song…though I think this song will be a very different direction from “Never Again”. (At least I hope!)
I don’t think DC fans really count ToML since it was obligatory…anyway when I say first single I mean first original song that they actually had a choice to record :)
I’m not surprised Archie is able to release quickly - I’m sure they had a lot of material ready for him to sing. Cook I’m assuming wants to write on most if not all of his record, so there’s more in terms of process going on. 19 did release that pic yesterday in EW (it’s in the print edition too btw) to let us all know stuff IS happening.
I have no problem with them taking their time to do it right. As long as we catch Black Friday. ;)
I always thought “Time of My Life” was Cookie’s first single. There wasn’t any runner-up single so I don’t see the big deal of Archie (or KLC, for that matter) releasing their singles ahead of Cook’s 2nd single (yes, 2nd single).
I do not think Cook is being Taylored. I read somewhere his PRE-ORDERS has reached GOLD-status already on Amazon and elsewhere.
I agree Duke. It is a good thing. In fact, Ryan Tedder is supposedly working with both Davids. I love One Republic’s album and I especially love Ryan Tedder’s voice. Archie sounded really nice at the finale singing Apologize and I’ll be interested to hear the songs that come from Ryan’s involvement with the project.
Exactly
I hate to burst bubbles (my own as well) but Archie didn’t sound like he was actually working with Ryan Tedder very much from this interview.
http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=jUzHkkn9PAg
I’d love to see a Ryan Tedder collaboration, but Ryan has been spreading very thin lately. He wrote most of that flop of Blake Lewis album. It’s not like his songs are sure-fire hits.
a fan talked to ryan tedder at his concert and he said he was writing songs for Archie. I think Archie in his interview hinted that he turned down one of his songs. Ryan wrote some goods songs but also a lot of unknown ones like for Blake. I trust Archie is choosing songs based on what sounds best and not who’s writing it.
The handwringing gets so very very old. I am glad Archie has a single coming out even though this is no way I will buy it. His fans seem to need it. I was surprised they were not more into it last night.
No finger wagging please. Let me do the modding. Please do NOT chastise your fellow posters. That will get your post deleted. Posts that bait fangroups will also be deleted.
I’ve had to delete more posts in this thread. Hand-wringing over COOK’S career is not on topic in this post, as I stated upthread.
Consistently ignoring my modding = banning. Just so you know.
The date in August is for the radio release and that’s not the date you can buy the track.
I read somewhere that with Jordin Sparks her single was avaible at Itunes a month after that the radio release, so if they do the same with Archie it is after the tour ended.
And how easy will it be to get the radio stations to play the song ?
I read everywhere it isn’t so easy to get a song to be played by radio stations?
I have read several places that this will be available on itunes on August 12th.
