YEah you can download them now from the album seperately, but the purpose of releasing a single is more for album promo. They release a new single to radio. Its what will help keep album sales up hopefully. So people are aware of their music etc etc.

Some people just listen to the radio, hear a song they like and then look up the person.. Maybe theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve now heard 2 song by a particular artist and say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹oh hey I like both these songs, maybe ill check out their albumà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ or they just buy the single. Its all sort of promo.

I guess my question is why do they appear like they release ONE single at a time, when multiple single purchases can be made immediately at the albums release? I don’t understand that. What’s to be anticipated when it can be purchased right off the bat….with no official release of any kind.

Are they talking releasing only one single at a time to radio, or to itunes, or both. ???????

Geez, I hope I didn’t confuse anyone by this rambling. It’s something I had a hard time putting in words, lol. Sorry.

I have read several places that Amazon was selling Taylor Swifts download album for $3.99, which seems unfair because all of those count toward album numbers, but I guess her label decided to do that.

I doubt that would have made such a huge dent in the final sales number had they not done that. And like someone said above, her $45-$75 dollar preorders would’ve more than made up for this. Let’s give credit where credit is due.

Anyway, those are excellent numbers for Archie. I wish he would’ve broke the 200k mark but the way record sales are nowadays, I would say that is outstanding especially for a first album.

Curiousà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.Does HDD predict for Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s second week in sales or does HDD only predict first weeks sales? How is that done usually. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m thinking they just predict the top 5 or 10 albums. Anybody know?

They usually do top 5 or so in their first projection, and any notable debuts. We may see some projections for Archie on Friday, but I doubt it.

First week sales usually drop off by about 75%, and with all the new releases, he’ll probably get bumped out of the top 10.

Yes I think Jive is celebrating and another celebration next week.

And those are very good sales for today’s economy because retail sales and the market were much stronger last year. I suspect that David Archuleta’s sales will get a boost for the Christmas shopping season. Because as a rule parents buy for their children before they buy for themselves.

David Cook will also do well. And I can hardly wait to see the numbers.

And thank you Kirsten for all your hard work.

Keeping in mind the steep decline in record sales the last couple of years, Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s numbers this week are very good, indeed.

Just to help illustrate that, here are some stats from Billboard for this week.
- Number of album units sold this week: 8.9 million units
- Number of albums units sold the same week last year: 11.72 million units
- Therefore, sales are down 24% from the same week last year.
- Number of album units sold the same week in 2006: 12.49 million units.
- Therefore, sales are down 31% from 2006

Last year, during thee same week, all the albums in the top 10 sold over 100K. The album ranked 50th sold 22K last year during this week. The number 50 album sold 15K this week. If you average the numbers for the albums ranked 50th on the chart for the last 10 years (1999-2008) during the same week, 23,289

If you assume that the market is down uniformally and normalize Archie’s numbers to 2006 numbers, he would have sold 256K. There are a lot of assumptions there, though, but it does illustrate how bad the market is (BTW I stopped at 2006 because I had those numbers handy, not trying to make any point about 2006 except that the market was a bit healthier (though still suffering) in those days).

And regarding Taylor Swift’s $3.99 promotion at Amazon, they seem to be doing that a lot lately, trying to compete with the big boxes. They have the same deal going for Nickelback this week, which is probably part of the reason they appear to be selling less than expected on iTunes right now.

Her label made tons of money from her pre-orders. About 10,000 cd sold for $45, which allowed fans to summit a picture for a poster and unknown amount of cds and gift box(T-shirt,pics etc.) for sold $75.
