Archie had both tweens and mom type fans. The tweens liked him because he was 17 and the moms liked him because of his mature voice. His switching his style may pose a problem for him.

I actually hear more Chris Brown in “Crush” than Jonas Brothers/Miley Cyrus. Certainly the lyrics aren’t as sexualized as Chris Brown can get, but there’s more of an R&B edge to “Crush.” And let’s not forget, David isn’t likely to have his own TV show or movie anytime soon. The JoBros and Miley have set themselves up to be marketed as super-products, rather than musicians (and it’s worked well for them in certain ways). If they both simply stuck to music, however, they would be perceived in a different way. IMO, David is far more talented, and if he can establish himself as a musician beyond AI (and I think he can), he won’t be a super-product. Hence, his music won’t be as marginalized as the music of the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus.

There’s no doubt that David is being marketed to teens, but I don’t think Jive is throwing away his older audience either. “Crush” fits right into Top 40 and Hot AC, where the market spans a wide age-range. To say that older fans wouldn’t like the song is like saying older fans (in their 20s to 40s) wouldn’t like much of anything playing on the radio today. And those teens that he is being marketed to aren’t so single-minded as to only like one type of singer or band. They may like the tight pants of the JoBros and their “cool” look, but they will also go for David’s more homegrown image if given the opportunity. If the reaction he gets at concerts is any indication of what type of impact he can make on a larger scale, the teen audience will eat him up–even without his own TV show or movie. And his older fans will be right there, satisfied that they’re following somebody who has already proven to be a really great musician.

Having listened to “Crush” I feel that it did not showcase Archie’s vocals which is what everyone raved about during the season. Sure his fans will love it and that all that counts but it came off as being very generic as pop goes. I think anyone could have been singing that song.

“Tattoo” didn’t make the impact they expected

“Tattoo” was a platinum-selling Top 10 hit. I can’t imagine that her record label was disappointed with that. “No Air” was more successful, but “Tattoo” was no slouch, either.

Jive knows how to produce hit singles. What’s interesting about them is that they appear to see a single through, even if it gets a slow start. “Tattoo’s” climb up the charts was very slow, but steady. But still, the appearances and promotion kept coming. Also, sending Jordin out on the road with more established acts has been genius. Her album is dropping on the Billboard 200, but watch it start climbing again when she hits the road with Jesse McCartney. Her single “One Step at a Time” continues to slowly climb the charts.

The success of Jordin’s career bodes well for Archie, who begins his career with more buzz and a bigger fan base than Jordin had.

I think Crush is more similar to “no air” than “tattoo,” and similar to a few Kelly’s pop rock songs.

Anyway, AI is over. Forget “reality” TV. They’re in the bigger pool of the entire music industry now. They’d better get used to being compared to whoever is hot and selling out there, not just AI alumni. Now THAT’S reality.

Although people are giving Archuelta’s song a more positive review, what people must
put in mind is that Jordin Sparks was the winner of the 2006 AI season, and well, as you know,
Archuelta was not. That said, comparing Archuleta’s single with Sparks’ is somehow well, unfair? Not because David is not a great talent, he is! I love his new single (I must have listened to it for about 20 times yesterday). However comparing his single with Sparks’ gives the idea that he won this season. What are people going to compare Cook’s single when it comes out? (Not “Time of My Life”) It is from him that should be expected more, didn’t he win?

But once again, it is amazing that people are rooting for David’s song because it means he has a huge fan base that will grow with this single song.

They may have processed the song too much for some but if you listen, you can really find David in the song. He really has his own style. I love his opening riff, the beat, melody and lyrics are great, and he puts some sweet emotion in the song.

Great first single for David. I think he’ll do fantastic with it. I’m an older fan and I love it, so I think all told it’ll be a HIT for him!

Mj, that’s awesome! It is a damn earworm. As I was trying to sleep last night, I kept hearing the damn refrain in my ear. Not good music to sleep by. But this is exactly what he needs. Single two will the the ballad to make all the older gals cry. That’s my take on it. LOL

MY DEBUT SINGLE “CRUSH” PREMIERED ON Z100!

Hey everyone!! So you might know that “Crush” premiered for the first time on Z100 yesterday! I was SOOOO excited/nervous/anxious for everyone to hear it, and I just can’t believe that it was on the radio! It was such an unbelievable moment, and it was like… watching a dream pop out of my mind into reality lol. It’s just shocking when I step back and just realize what’s really happening, and the possibilities that could be coming. It was so good to hear the comments from the few phone calls that came in right after the song played too, and to know that it wasn’t just the teens who were able to relate to it haha. I’ve been looking at comments and listening to some of the messages people leave and I just wanna thank everyone A TON for leaving your comments and knowing that you like the song. It means so incredibly much to me I don’t think you have any idea. Thank you thank you thank you thank you! lol. I was nervous about how it might be a song that would only relate to everyone around my age, but I realized EVERYONE has crushes or have had them. haha. But ah! I’m so excited to know you guys like it .

I’m just here on the bus on our way to the Atlantic City show in New Jersey. So that’s what we have for today. Then tomorrow Cook and I are headed to the Teen Choice Awards and will be presenting an award. It’ll be pretty crazy doing all the travelling and getting up early and getting back late, but it’ll also be a lot of fun! haha. Anyway that’s it for now. This reminds me of something. Shamefully, in a fit of boredom, I once watched the Christina Aquilara E True Hollywood Story or some such nonsense. She told the story of how she fought with her record company because they wanted to release Genie in a Bottle first, but she wanted to release one of her other songs that showcased her serious pipes.

Of course, she knew she had no say in the matter, and she was pretty pissed at the time. They explained to her that Genie would get her a ton of radio play, then once everyone knew her name, they’d release the next one. After that, people would realize what a voice she had and at that point, she’d be a star. In the end, it worked, and obviously she realized she had been wrong.

Same concept here. Archie’s always going to have that voice. And, I have no doubt that there will be more than one song on his cd that shows the world what he can do vocally. But first, he’s got to concquer radio.

So, I wouldn’t fret Archie fans. He’ll give you what you’re waiting for – after he’s hooked some more fans who don’t watch idol.

It will be great for AI if the show gets TWO huge sellers out of this season, so I have my fingers crossed for both of the Davids. I look forward to the new talent that their dual success will attract to try-outs.

It’s pretty amazing even now to look at certain charts–such as AC or HOT AC and frequently see Idol alums taking THREE of the top 10 spots. (Cook, Daughtry, Sparks.) Very impressive from the standpoint of showing what DC always says the show is–a platform for launching a singer onto bigger things.

I think a lot of people believe that David has the ability to easily pull off deeper and more complex songs that showcase his amazing vocals. My point was that, at this time, he needs something to hit. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Crushà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  has these amazing hooks that reel people in. You hook them and theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re more apt to listen to whatever else you have to offer.

August 11/12 is the official radio release date. Sept 2 is the date the song will be released for commercial sale to iTunes.

So is it true Crush would be released to Itune on Aug 12 same day as the Jonas Brothers song? Jive must have great confidence in Crush. Good for David.

That is the understatement of the year. Whatever your opinion of the Jonas Brothers is, there are HOT right now. Sadly, I know all about it. lol I really like David A’s voice but I don’t love this song. To me, it doesn’t have a good hook. But hey, what do I know?
