I agree with commenters, that both songs sound like old material and aren’t candidates for the new records both are working on.
Cook and Archie have both been busy writing new songs and are expected to release new albums later this year.
thanks frogcooke

I don’t like either of them. Hope they’re both old songs and they’ve got new better songs in the works for their next albums. David Archuleta’s is good enough maybe for some other artist, and it’s well sung, but I hate the lyrics for David. Does not match him.
Is it just me or does “This Year” sound like a soundtrack song.
Since this is about songs im just gonna post this here. lol
Archie is in the studio(same one they recorded the idol songs in) with August Rigo who apparently wrote ‘Solo’ for Iyaz, has also worked with Sean Kingston and The Cab recently. He’s also worked with Espionage who coincidently cowrote ‘Come Back To Me’ and ‘Lie’
Psst- someone attending the Morongo show confirmed they soundchecked a new song! ( per DCO tour stop thread )
I’ve thought for a while that a lot of DC songs sound like they’d be good soundtrack songs… but that’s not necessarily a great thing cuz in my mind at least, it’s partly because they’re pleasant songs that aren’t the right kind of catchy for radio. Anyway, that’s probably why I’ve got high hopes for the Claude Kelly collabs and the like… we’ll see. Pretty excited to hear the new song they’ve apparently soundchecked for tonight’s show.
yeah i cant wait to hear the new song either, though it will probably have to wait till youtubes in the morning for me.
Ever since I saw a this video from the tv show Supernatural with I Did It For You as the music I’ve thought that would make a good soundtrack song.
This Year is ok but it wasn’t very catchy. I’m also excited to hear the new song.
Someone just relayed that they hope to have videos up immediately after the show – that The Morongo has a “FAST Internet connection” – this is a person who takes excellent videos, – so it’s still three hours till it starts. Dinner time. With the Olympics in the background here.
Misha is so hot. Anyway, there’s just something about Cook songs + Winchester boys, cuz this Permanent Supernatural vid is outstanding. (And yeah, might actually make me teary.)
Okay, here’s the deal. I dunno bout y’all, but I never met a lyric I didn’t analyze to death, even half assed demo lyrics, thus the obvious Cherry Lane errors were bugging. I tried to make corrections based on what I hear…it’s a sickness, I know…
We’re miles apart in the same room
Staring at nothing at all
This empty space is a vacuum
filled with yesterdays
Counting cracks in the ceiling
down to the paint on the wall
Fallin all around our feeling
that we locked away for the next spring day
We were lost a long long time ago
to reasons we may never know
But now I’m here
open eyes open heart open ears
for the seasons that you’ll never show
so I’ll let you go…..
this year, this year
You’re dancing circles around me
step in time, step in place
You knock the wind outta my lungs
Oh you thought it fair
to claim you own the open air
We were lost a long long time ago
to reasons we may never know
But now I’m here
open eyes open heart open ears
for the seasons that you’ll never show.
So I’ll let you go…
this year, this year
We’re anything but single and*
we’re everything but harmony today
I’m screaming for the melody
the memory dies in awkward looks (?) open books (?)
We were lost
a long long time ago
to reasons we may never know
We were lost a long long time ago to reasons we may never know
but now I’m here
open eyes open heart open ears
for the seasons that you’ll never show
so I’ll let you go….
this year, this year
Comments and corrections greatly appreciated.
* Or maybe it’s (?) You’re anything but symphony (?) It’s def not what Cherry Lane has written. ArrRRRrrrGGG.
(The lyrics are kinda growing on me, but the instrumentation obvs needs may-juh Anthemic-izing.)
I never saw that before; it does work. I always thought Searchlights
would make a good sountrack song. I get tired of all the films using mowtown and 60’s/ 70’s classics.
“This Year” is a DCTR reject. So hopefully they won’t use it on this album. Progression y’know.
I liked both songs, but of course I liked the Cook song more.
Also… damn. Batgirl, after you posted the link to a video of ‘I Did It For You’ from the tv show Supernatural, I thought maybe I had missed an episode somewhere that featured David Cook’s music (which would really be an accomplishment as that show features some of the greatest rock songs of all time).
Alas, it was a fan vid. And I’m sorry, it didn’t work for me, just made me uncomfortable. Dean and Castiel are NOT gay, it is a bond between brothers, but the way that vid is put together, and especially with ‘I Did it For You’ as the theme song… just seemed to completely distort the relationship, almost as if it were being played for laughs.
On the other hand, the Supernatural fan vid that Sunchick posted for ‘Permanent’ was almost exactly right, and very very good.
Thanks though for both links.
noctem seizure dont worry itll not be on the nxted album its a song rejected for his first album.
sunchick, your lyrics look right to me– unfortunately, I have the same problems figuring out the same sections as you, so I can’t help =P
Just one correction:
“that we locked away for the next spring day” should be “for the next rainy day”, I think. That’s what I hear.
^ Ah, yes, rainy day makes more sense. I originally thought he was going for a seasonal thing in that line with fall and spring.
Sorry to get your hopes up DanielB. I should have clarified when I posted it was a fanvid. But anyway I agree about the song distorting the relationship but it just made me think that IDIFY would be a good soundtrack song in general.
I’d seen the Permanent vid before too and its very good and definitely more fitting.
After seeing the lyrics sunchick posted, its making me warm up to This Year more but I definitely agree the instrumentation needs work.
David Archuleta joinged We The Kings and Travis Clark on stage in Utah on Friday. They sang “Heaven Can Wait”. David did great rocking the stage with his buddy Travis. http://www.twitvid.com/8D8F5
