Very cool for David. Thanks for all the info and photos, mj. Not just these but everything, especially on Cook, since I’m a huge Cook fan(atic). I liked the Tulsa World article too, very nice, even though he says Kim C is “amazing.” Oh I’m just jealous! Well, so he has someone out there in big LA who has some experience living there, working there, etc and doesn’t have to feel like he’s alone. I hope. I’m sure his life is totally insane right now. Yeah I invested in him…going to see 2 Idol shows, Dallas and KC MO. Considering Tulsa as well. I’m glad he’s getting to do some things like this cancer center benefit. That probably means a lot to him.

He looks happy. What an honor to be invited to perform there.

  3. 3 spritely Jun 22nd, 2008 at 10:57 am

Lovely. Purr. Aren’t those the newish grey boots, and not the elf boots? Elf boots are for everyday. Newish Grey Boots (NGB) are for dress-up. :)

Notice the little gold halo over his head in the middle photo? :innocent1_tb:

  4. 4 Trina Jun 22nd, 2008 at 10:58 am

That must have been very special for him to be a part of since cancer hits so close to home for him. I think Mary J. Blige performed last year. I had read he performed Livin on a Prayer, TOML and The World I Know, all acoustically.

ditto to what kathryn said, MJ. Thank you so much for all the Cookie coverage! You rock :-)

  5. 5 spritely Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:03 am

Livin on a Prayer, TOML and The World I Know, all acoustically.

    Really?! Lucky, lucky audience.

David, for dress-up, maybe NOT the jeans with the almost-hole in them. It distracts the women in the audience. :) Or, at least this woman in the photo-viewing audience.

Okay, too much fan-girling for Sunday morning. Must be the halo that did it.

  6. 6 Layla Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:16 am

Lovel face shot of DC DC… I’m lovin the boots, although the jacket looks a little ill-fitting. Wonder if there will be any videos on you tube from the event?

Would love to hear those 3 songs acoustically. Hope the event raised oodles of money.

  7. 7 dancingqueen Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:17 am

Good for DC getting involved in a great cause.

I like his music to a point (some is a bit too rawk for my taste), but, his hawtness, I don’t see at all(jmo). He looks like he’s wearing Archie’s jacket.

  8. 8 spritely Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:21 am

Well, I guess I’m not done yet, after all. I wonder when the appearance invitation came? Was it automatic for the Idol winner? Or was it more last-minute? That doesn’t seem likely, but I’m thinking that, nevertheless, Kimmel must have been very impressed with him somewhere along the way. And they did seem to hit it off. (I’m still laughing over “I’m a baller, son.”)

What a nice, nice thing for him to get to perform there last night. He does seem to be a lad for whom it’s important to find depth of meaning in things.

  9. 9 gingerly Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:21 am

I think he’s looking muy caliente oh and happy too. Can’t get enough Cookie sightings and he’s going to be on The View next week. All I can say is those obnoxious women better stfu and let the Davids talk (oh and sing too please :))

  10. 10 spritely Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:26 am

I wonder if Miles recommended short jackets for him so he wouldn’t appear so long-waisted? I like them fine, but my fav was that longer grey one he wore for IGB.

Apparently, I am trying to establish the day’s standard for shallow. The rest of you can only seem profound compared to me today. :) You’re welcome.

  11. 11 GEEK4VOCAB Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:35 am

I love these pics. His skin is beautiful.
*ahem* So yeah, the music. If you want to hear his acoustic version of TOML… and believe me, you want to… look up his performance at the Wal Mart shareholders meeting. It is stunning.

  12. 12 GEEK4VOCAB Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:37 am

PS… I like the short jacket. Very MOD.

  13. 13 Layla Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:43 am

I really actively disliked TOML but the acoustic performance at the Wal Mart thingie made me LOVE it.

He does have beautiful skin…couldn’t imagine him with a tan.

Oh gawd…The View. Can’t stand that show but will brave it like I do anything that has anything to do with DC. He’s together with Archie, right?

  14. 14 spritely Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:51 am

Right, he’s together with Archie. When I went to The View website the other day (What?!), it said they will “perform.” Hmm. Duet? Separately? I can’t imagine they won’t also be dragged over to the couches. Those women wouldn’t pass up that opportunity. Okay, neither would I.

David, David, once again you’re making me do something–watch The View–that I would never do without you.

  15. 15 IGetCranked Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:54 am

Aw that’s so great for him!

Layla, yes they are supposed to be together. That’s always fun!

  16. 16 Jenn_AI Fan Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:57 am

Thanks for the update about the fundraiser, MJ. I was wondering what he sang. Nice that he’s been able to get involved with a cause he cares so much about.

That said, I’m going to be forcing myself to watch my very first episode of the View. Dammit. Why couldn’t it be The Daily Show instead?

  17. 17 littlesparrow Jun 22nd, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Spritely, I don’t know if Cookie was contractually obligated to do this or not, but I doubt it. It was announced over a week ago in a press release.

  18. 18 spritely Jun 22nd, 2008 at 12:49 pm

It just seems as if this is the sort of event where they’d have their headliners lined up months ago. I’d love to know how he ended up there with apparently short notice. Don’t get me wrong–I think it’s great, and a perfect “fit” for him. I’m just idly (Idol-y)curious about how it happened.

  19. 19 Jolene Jun 22nd, 2008 at 12:55 pm

David’s participation was anounced fairly recently. I doubt it was decided before he won. Actually, I doubt it had anything to do with winning, I think it had more to do with his dedication to the cause. He said several times that he can’t wait to get active and involved with cancer related functions, so I’d guess they asked him, and he was happy to oblige.
I don’t know however how far in advance things like this are usually decided.

  20. 20 Layla Jun 22nd, 2008 at 1:06 pm

Archie and Cookie together…they are really cute and entertaining together. A duet would be interesting, although I’m not so sure if Archie would like that as he felt he was just singing backup for Cook on Hero.

I get a little worried about Cook and all of his appearances. I really want him in-voice on this record! Honestly, while I think he is fuckin HAWT, if I didn’t love his voice and music I wouldn’t give him a second thought. Have only been fangirly one other time in my life (Roy Dupuis from La Femme Nikita) but I am thoroughly enjoying it!

  21. 21 Jolene Jun 22nd, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Just went over some pictures from the event, and man oh man do I like the way David looked.
The beard is in need of a trim, but I like the scruff.
There’s no chance some video from the event will surface, right? Wal-Mart was a once off thing where a private appearance actually got broadcast and reached everyone, but I can’t help but hope something will turn up yet.

  22. 22 sfbb Jun 22nd, 2008 at 3:11 pm

yes…would love the beard shaved down to light scruff so we could see the handsome face. I don’t get the full beard thing. But…not a fan of beards in general.

He looks great anyway, and love that he got to do a cancer benefit.

  23. 23 GwendolynD Jun 22nd, 2008 at 4:53 pm

    Wooooooooooooooooooooo, Cookie!

Okay, I wanna see him in a tux already…and not because he’s getting married, either. :tongue1_tb:

  24. 24 kathrynTX Jun 22nd, 2008 at 5:37 pm

If you can get it to play, try this for the WM performance. Move the forward to about 1IN or so from the end, look for chart & graph man going on & on, then Q Latifah introduces the one & only DC.

Don’t know if it’s still up & running though. As for other songs & videos, THEY ARE OUT THERE. Try fansites….

Cook FTW! Oh wait, he already won AI. heehee… Love you, DC!

Same here! :tongue1_tb: Those pics are just lovely. :wub_tb: I really admire Cookie for his support for cancer charities. :)

There are some additional great pics from the Taste for the Cure event on the David Cook Livejournal Community; not positive, but you may need an LJ account and to join the community to see the whole thing. The main post with links to all images is:

In sum: fear not the shaggy Cook, for there shall be hotness.

and a lovely performance one at david-cook.co.cc

The performance pics weren’t up at wireimage this morning. I’m going to grab those and post them!

  29. 29 Jenn_AI Fan Jun 22nd, 2008 at 11:21 pm

    Nice pictures.

I’d love to hear a full acoustic version of LoAP with better sound quality than you could hear at the homecoming, but I guess that’s one of the benefits of actually going to the fundraiser for the worthy cause….

  30. 30 sleepyinsomniac Jun 23rd, 2008 at 2:26 am

That performance pic is all kinds of hotness. I wish we had audio/video of this one. The world can never have enough acoustic TWIK!

A video interview with David from E! Right Here.
Also, a personal account of meeting David at the event Here.

  32. 32 sherryw Jun 23rd, 2008 at 4:02 am

What a wonderful event for DC to be involved with (along with his new BFF).
Count me among those who would like to hear the acoustic LOAP.
He looks great, as usual. Not so sure I’m liking the short jacket but I will forgive him since he just looks so damn good.
But, seriously, I’m sure it meant a lot to him to be invited to perform for such a worthy cause.

  33. 33 sherryw Jun 23rd, 2008 at 4:10 am

    Jolene,

    Thanks for the clips.
It certainly doesn’t seem that he is the “bad boy” that he was being portrayed as because he (gasp!) gave his brother a kick-ass 21st b-day bash.
I’m glad no one was sizing me up for the tabloids when I gave my sister a 21st bash (let alone my own). I would probably be considered “evil” or something.

I digress. I hope he can continue to do more to raise awareness and funds for cancer research, as it touches the lives of so many and is obviously very close to his heart.

  34. 34 SwanDive Jun 23rd, 2008 at 4:35 am

OK, this may be stupid, but what’s on his pants? Looks like a bleach stain.

  35. 35 sleepyinsomniac Jun 23rd, 2008 at 10:31 am

OK, this may be stupid, but what’s on his pants? Looks like a bleach stain.

I think it’s one of those things where they purposely sandblast the denim to make a “hole” except they kept all the weft threads.

Yes it was fan war talk. Keep this post ON TOPIC PLEASE.

The event honored a Fox network executive and the Idol winner was always set to perform. Everyone was really happy when it turned out to be David Cook. I was there and his set was amazing. He also said some very nice things about cancer research at UCLA. Some in the audience came just to see him. Others - mostly older donors to the cancer center - didn’t know who he was but were easily won over by his humility and his incredible performance.

  38. 38 purplesmile Jun 24th, 2008 at 12:29 pm

    LOAP on youtube

I like it! I like Cookie today! ;D

  39. 39 cooktard76 Jun 24th, 2008 at 10:33 pm

TWIK is also on youtube from the Cure benefit. Not sure if whoever taped that was actually allowed or had a right to, but I thank them. =)
    He sounded amazing!

  40. 40 spanishfan Jun 25th, 2008 at 8:45 am

This is an example of what this magician can do with his performances. He changes them up to sound even better than the originals. My favourite acoustic performance ever and loving TWIK the way I do, that really says something. He has such an emotional impact when he sings. Leaves me always wanting more.

Here are the awesome acoustic performances by Cook at the Taste for the Cure event to raise money for UCLA’s Jonsson comprehensive Cancer Center. Enjoy!
