David Cook Joins Kevin Griffin On Stage at the KC Kissmas Bash

Kevin Griffin of the band Better than Ezra surprised the crowd at the 99.7 Kissmas bash in Kansas City, Mo Wednesday night by bringing hometown boy, David Cook, on stage to duet in exquisite harmony on “Absolutely Still”.

Kevin and David co-wrote the song “Avalanche” from David’s 2008 album, David Cook.

David is back home in KC after recently finishing up his marathon Declaration Tour, and is hard at work writing songs for his next album, set to be released sometime in 2010

Absolutely gorgeous. I would also love a good duet on the next album. He blends well with damn well anyone, but I’ve especially loved his blending with Carrie. So that would be awesome. Or, oooh, how about Neko Case? Or, hmmm, Brandi Carlisle? Or, hmmm.

I absolutely love AcousticDave, but I also enjoy AnthemicDave. I could see being very happy with a concert that had the rocking stuff, but maybe had an acoustic break. But I’d never ask for DC to give up the plugged-in rock—he loves it, and so do I.

I would love to see David, Andy and Kyle perform an acoustic
Crosby, Stills and Nash song live’ ¦..

Offside, I so agree. A little “Teach Your Children” perhaps? Or anything, realy.

Ah, the best of both worlds. Honestly, I like Dave singing with just his electric guitar even better than AcousticDave. So, if he continues to throw one of those in there too, I’d be super thrilled.

By the way, y’all, methinks the serial bromancer has collected yet another partner in male bonding here with Kevin. I’m so adding Better Than Ezra to the Bromancipalooza roster…. And it seems like Sam Hollander was also a notch in the proverbial bedpost. Oh, that Dave.

Folkfan, I would LOVE a duet with Brandi Carlisle. One of my favorite female singers. However, If I had to pick someone high profile, my wish would be Alicia Keys..I think those two would kill it.
And as most people said, I love anthemic as much as acoustic Dave. I hought his best concerts were the ones that had a good balance of both, and coming to the end of his tour, it became evident that a handful of songs (like LOTM and Avalanche) sounded better acoustic.

If David really wants to establish himself as a rocker, he should think about doing a duet with a popular modern rock artist/band, like Linkin Park, a Carrie David duet would be interesting, so would Kings Of Leon..

I’m probably one of the few people who don’t like KOL, but if Cook decided to pair up with one of the nu metal guys like Linkin Park, Disturbed or Papa Roach I would be ecstatic (although I might be in the minority here!). Of course, I have no idea what Cook thinks of those groups, (and some of their songs actually require that you sing badly), but I think there are certain aspects of that sound that Cook could easily work with(especially since he likes Barbasol which is sort of a lite version of that sound)

Although I don’t think it is likely to happen I must chime in and say I agree with you May about any sort of reference to Linkin Park or nu metal. My secret wish is the songwriting sessions with Claude Kelly was in creation of some sort of version of this. Totally my delusions but I wanted to let you know you are not alone in this mindset. (I don’t love KOL either).

A little ‘Teach Your Children’ perhaps? Or anything, really.

I vote for Helplessly Hoping, Suite Judy Blue Eyes, or Woodstock. I would die and be in heaven if that happened. I remember sitting in the front row at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in L.A. seeing them live, snorting coke (it was a long time ago). Their harmonies were ethereal … Neil Young was there too … one of those special memories.

Or, oooh, how about Neko Case?

God, can you imagine the resonant frequencies in that room? Neko’s voice live is the only one I’ve ever heard that makes every cell in my body vibrate the way Cook’s does. I think this might make my chest implode. But from my little pile of goo on the floor I’d be sayin’ “yeah, that was awesome”.

Taking a break on Christmas stuff, so I can be even more behind than I already am. But, needed to hear this again. One word – sexy. Sexy as hell. OK three words!

I’m jelous of you, oceana ( not for the coke snorting; for seeing CSNY. ) I think they shall always be my favorites. I would love David, Andy and Kyle to perform
Wooden Ships, Carry On, or Guinnevere.

  • suenigma:

I cannot stop listening to this song. It’s stuck in my head. I know Kevin already released it. But I would kill to hear a recorded version of this with DC on my radio

  • spritely:

Still listening. Not bored. Still thrilled with it.

  • oceana:

Ah Wooden Ships, love that one too.

@thedavidcook Just a reminder to any in the KCMO area. Chiefs v. Browns on 12/20. SOMEONE might be singing the national anthem. just sayin’…
12:16 AM Dec 14th from web

Hey Chiefs fans: I’m singing the anthem this Sunday at Arrowhead! Come help cheer the Chiefs to a win with me for my birthday! The big 2-7! 4:30 PM Dec 16th from web

Sooo’ ¦ Cook ‘asked’ for the invitation, lol!

  • spritely:

What am I missing? I’ve reread those tweets several times and I can’t see anything that implies that David asked to be invited to sing. The first tweet was just a tease, the second one confirmed the fact. ? Not important, but I’m just wondering if I’m missing something.

  • ohnonotagain:

I must have missed that too…
