David Cook – Larry King Live – VIDEO

A lot of the same yada ya here from Jay Leno. Cook has the spiel down pat. However, with the competition finished, he feels free to discuss his brother Adam’s brain cancer for the first time. David says that his brother’s illness kept his stress in the competition in perspective. “There are people dealing with way worse things than Simon saying something nasty.” David hopes to shed some light on the illness. Currently, David is working out the details of his record deal, and hopes to get into the recording studio soon.
David Cook is interviewed by Larry King after the Jump…

Larry should be honored that he talked about Adam. I think that’s the most open he’s been about it.
Larry actually prepared a bit before tonight. I really enjoed it. And if I hadn’t been reading mj’s blog a 1/2 hour before the show I would have missed it.
Thanks mj for always proving up-to-the -minute info!
David Cook is really great at these interviews.
He is pretty awesome.
Thanks for posting this (and so quickly too!) I started watching it after the 10-minute mark and missed this part. He continues to express himself so well.
It was so apparent that Larry does not watch the show as the other finalists came out. He said some strange things and asked some weird questions. They were great and really do a good job of supporting each other. David Cook defended Carly about her record deal, and then Brooke jumped in too. They defended Castro and Syesha’s talent. A lot of them are so funny!
At the end of the hour LK asked them to sing something a cappella and as they were figuring out what to do Cook said “Castro- don’t pick the key” before leading them in the chorus of “Freedom.” Good stuff.
mj, thank you ever so much for keeping the blog up to date with all of the post-idol media. This international fan wouldn’t have access to half of these interviews otherwise, and I’m far too much of a Cooktard to give up on any of it.
He is just lovely. I adore how composed and articulate he is. He was truly made for this, wasn’t he?
Oh, and I haven’t even considered the possibility he’d talk about Adam, because it’d been left in the dark for so long, so I am surprised and delighted that he can now allow himself to open up about it.
yay, finally, the larry king post! my thoughts….
i love cookie. that pretty much sums it up.
i wish they had shown the gang w/ more live lk shots than putting them in the little box and re-showing clips from the show in the bigger box. that got annoying.
hated michael johns wasnt actually there, but i guess monday will be a different story, so thats good.
jason castro has always and will forever crack me the hell up.
but in all honesty, is it just me, b/c i think i would have just rather seen a full hour of cookie.
larry was funny mispronouncing names and he kept calling litte david archie, which i think he might of thought was his actual first name, lol.
and i will go on record saying, i have never wanted larry king’s suspenders… until tonight.
good show, cant wait til monday!
Heh, I think we should all submit some intelligent questions for Larry King to ask!
Did’ja notice at one point Cook says “I’ll take that one” or something to that effect? That boy has leadership qualities, in addition to everything else.
I’ve wondered about his parents. Watching one son struggle with cancer and watching David with this. Their emotions must have been all over the place. I can only imagine walking through that with my kids.
I love how David Cook interviews. It seems he’s been doing this for years.
He is a star,all right.
I am glad he and Michael Johns are such great friends.
DC calls him Mike and he said he was thrilled to share his winning moment with him.
I missed MJt tomight! Wish he could have been there. But at least we got him via satellite.
He is actually taping a special show for David Foster and Friends.
I guess we will just have to wait for Monday.
Thanks for posting these clips. I also forgot about the interview and missed all of Cook’s first segment. I am so impressed by his ease in these interviews. It’s as if he’s been doing this his whole life. Amazing. I am so happy he won. Archie really comes off poorly in interviews. But Cookie, wow.
Thank you, mj!
I don’t have cable!
You can really tell that Cookie is ready for stardom by the looks of these interviews. Just like everyone else has said, he is very articulate and well spoken and seems to be very grounded about all of this.
Cookie is just all kinds of awesome!
Very sweet of Cook to mention Luke Menard and his illness at the end of the show. It was obviously not scripted and he just interjected the shout out to Luke as they were closing the show. I know Cook, MJ, Luke and the other Jason were good friends early on. Too bad the Idol producers weren’t big enough to do the same…
I agree. Daughtry could not have pulled off all of this press with the dignity and grace that Cook is. I really think he has the potential to be the most successful Idol yet.
On another note, did I hear him say he wants a Grammy and an Oscar some day? I wonder if he meant a song-writing Oscar or one for acting?
Three-quarter-dead talk show hosts for Cookie!
sorry, bad taste……
But i wanna ask here (cause I really wanna know) a question from another thread that belongs on this one.
Can anybody out there tell me what teen pop idol Jesse McCartney can add to Cook’s record, in the way of creative spark or musical flair? I listened to the kid on youtube, and I don’t get it……
Thanks MJ….I get Larry King here in Copenhagan but forgot to set the VCR…crazy time differences.
LK is definately not my favorite interviewer but I really enjoyed seeing the 10 in this type of interview format which is less frentic than what we have been seeing.
DC is definately the leader of the group, and I don’t think this is just because he won.
He interv iews just great-articulate, funny and witty. I just love him and was pleased to hear he is chomping at the bit to get inside a recording studio! Just hope he takes his time and is allowed creative imput on the record. Have a feeling that he will be defiantly assertive in choices of what type of music he wants to put out.
I have to say that to me this is definately the most talented, diverse, and interesting top ten EVER!
David Cook is my favorite Idol winner, ever. He just has it together. Loved his answers about his brother Adam and how he didn’t want to talk about it during the competition. He is truly a class act. Kudos to him. His CD will be all kinds of amazing. I also think he may just be the most successful Idol winner of all.
I’m so excited to be going to the tour! I like each and every one of the top ten, Jason and David C. as favorites but will be fun to see them all!
I agree completely. He has it all – the voice, the musicianship, the looks, the polish, the intelligence, and a wide appeal… there has never been an Idol winner who has had this much going for him (or her) coming off the show. I keep comparing him to Kelly in terms of potential, but she was nowhere near as ready as Cook is at this stage of the game.
His life experience to date has given him a maturity that belies his age, and his quiet self-assuredness is impressive. I just can’t believe how easily he’s slipped into his “celebrity shoes” and how well he handles the questions thrown at him. I was also touched that he gave Luke a shout out.
Cook’s comment about putting things into perspective in terms of his brother’s illness made a lot of sense, and explains his demeanor on the show, with the judges, etc. Plus he seems to have a solid plan going forward, which will help in negotiations, recording, etc. I don’t think anyone’s going to run over him when it comes to creating his album either.
ETA: I was up late last night and decided to read the David Cook thread on VFTW from the beginning. The first couple of pages of Cook’s thread are really something. Someone posted a couple of his blog entries from 2006 where he writes about his brother’s illness. It’s a revealing read and worth wading through the carp.
Cookie did great on the show. You can tell that he has “big brother syndrome” by the way he takes over. He was the oldest of the ones there last night and he acted like it. They must be used to it because none of them seemed to mind. LOL.
I like that they all get along and respect each other. Great bunch of Idols this year.
Foxydonna– could you post the link to that page on VFTW on DC? I can’t find it. Thanks!
I also tried to find that link on VFTW and couln’t, I would love for someone to post the link also. Also I was on youtube and came across a song David did with Axium when he covered “creep”. I think it’s incredible but be forewarned it does have explicit lyrics. Definately check it out. Also his Axium band’s album had a song “AC” that the lyrics talk about his brother’s illness a bit.
re: VFTW. If you go to the forums and go to the thread on David cook, it’s actually on the first page.
I actually felt uncomfortable reading it and hope it stays buried in amongst that trash. It does give a great insight into the kind of music he will write and the journey that is making him the man he is.
But, I think this except is his private self needing to express himself at a time of crisis. If he took it down, then should we respect that? He is going to have enough problems with fans who want to invade every facet of his life. There is a fine line between respecting an artist for their gift and their insights that will stimulate us and voyeurism.
I actually read that as well. And they posted Cook’s entries on his Xanga blog (which Cook had removed during the contest)
Based on his blog entries, Cook sounded like a sweet guy (although he wasn’t as eloquent as he was on Idol)
Anyway, VFTW guys are losers for trying TOO HARD to make fun of contestants. They are just as worse as the rabid fans.
However, if you guys will notice—VFTW sounded more respectful of Cook (not REAL respectful but less harsh on Cook as compared to other Idols). I even remember reading that some of them BOUGHT his itunes and said it was actually good..but of course they would trash him again and say that probably his career would be ruined by Idol.
I dont really mind VFTW comments on Cook because it isnt really that harsh as compared with David Archuleta’s comments. Sometimes, their comments are funny.
They made fun of Cook’s tummy. Which, to me was really hilarious because it is something Ive noticed as well. However, for me Cook’s tummy is cute.
