So he told someone at the M&G last night he won’t reveal what the ‘14′ ³ tatt means because he’s having way too much fun reading everyones guesses on Twitter. Did I call it or what?

Dangit. I really really wanted to know. Ah well. Maybe someday when
people give up. I’m not going to even try to figure out what it means. :p

I don’t get his personality either..he said some stupid stuff that didn’t make any sense.

Now, I get not enjoying the show if you were expecting TOML and the like in the set list.

And I admit that I wasn’t at this show.

But from the youtubes, the banter included:

* a note about the bonus track being available at Walmart (in case people who didn’t have that song were wondering about it)
* enjoying his time in Houston and possibly moving back (because he was born there)
* complimenting the Script and talking about how he’d had the chance to gamble with them at their recent casino stay (and, I’m assuming, winning some money off them)
* having some problems with his ear monitors and making sure that the sound problems weren’t affecting the audience, too
* thanking the audience for the length of the tour, and pointing out that HFT was originally brought into the setlist because they started out playing colleges and thought it would be fun

Even putting aside the presumably heartfelt comments about Ft. Hood and about having friends in the audience, I don’t consider any of the above stupid or nonsensical. And I’m one who thinks he has occasionally confused “bantering” with “rambling”.

Anyway, add me to the list of people who hope that sunchick gets some sooper sekrit fun.

I’ll have to commiserate with the rest of ya when his tour is over.

We’ll have to step up the group hugging. It got us through the 2 wk break… well, that and the fact that he didn’t seem to realize he was taking a break and we got fed a steady diet of Cookie crumbs

It was loud, but I expected that. The band and David was just as good as I expected and I was able to make out the words just fine.

For my one and only concert, I brought along a friend. She wasn’t familiar with Dave’s music and she did say that she couldn’t make out the words — which is to be expected when you don’ t know the songs. BUT she did say that she understood why I was a fan because she liked the music itself. She turned to me a few times during the concert to say “that’s a keeper” or something similar about a song. I was really happy about that because I was wondering how Dave’s music played to the unitiated. I tend to be a music first, lyrics second person, so this was good to hear. (I’d been to another concert with her earlier in the year where she also didn’t know the act, and she only said that once to me the entire night. My friend tends to be an R&B/Top40 fan while I tend to be a HAC/rock fan.)

But then I saw that Twitpic and, uhh.. I feel bad for her and her camera. I hope the camera survived that.

So very much agreed. I loved the album when I got it last year and I’m still listening to it in my car these many months later, but it was clear there had been compromises made to get the final product. These past 9 months of watching and hearing these songs develop has been fascinating and more fun than I could ever have thought possible. I think it just goes to show that for me, there are some *really* strong songs in there, because I have yet to tire of them.

And then we get the extra added bonus of hearing them stripped down again, but with almost a year’s worth of road testing to figure out how to present each song at its best and I’m entranced all over again. I love being able to watch musicians *work*.

See, the cookie crumbs are educational as well as delicious. *g*

Yeah, TOML is just NOT what he is about as an artist. As successful as the song was, I sometimes see the song as an albatross for him artistically because (1) he has fans who got to know him first because of that song and pegged him as a TOML-type artist, (2) it’s my belief that the songs in his album were chosen and produced so they were more pop/AC in order to be closer stylistically to TOML, and (3) his singles were chosen in relation to TOML so he would retain the fans of that song vs.songs that represented the album.

I think the way he’s presented the songs in concert was more what he had in mind when he wrote the album.

Word to that entire post especially the last sentence. I think that was his intent as well. I don’t think he’s ungrateful for the success it brought him but I can’t blame him for wanting to shake the song off completely after the AI tour ended last year. For those of us who have been to at least one show (or at least me anyway) aren’t complaining.

Yeaaaah….didn’t fool anyone, did I? Hello, acoustic Cook thread, better late than never. So, I have dilemma. Which Mr. Sensitive do I prefer…the surprising acoustic version above, or this new rockin performance from Shawnee with the guitar action during the bridge. It’s almost like the lyrics tell two different stories with the two interpretations. YKWIM? By the way, have I mentioned that I did, in fact, get to see a very rare acoustic set at the HOB about a year ago? I have? Hee. I think Dave and Neal have come a long way even since then because I don’t remember Mr. Sensitive unplugged sounding quite like that. Made me wish for a wider angle on these vids so that I could see Neal’s guitar work, too. It’s a shame they don’t do the acoustic Declaration more often because I do remember being most pleasantly surprised by that one last year and I’d like to hear what they’d do with it now. Two more weeks or so until my second concert, btw. I so can’t wait. I’m hoping I get ADAM or IJDIYA this time…or Anodyne…or better yet, the sooper sekrit surprise song, in which case I can not be held responsible for any embarrassing flailage that might ensue. It’s all his fault.

Remember “friendship” bracelets? They were this thing when I was a girl that you made out of colored thread and gave to your besties and you weren’t supposed to take them off, ever, or it meant THE END of your friendship?

And one’s mom was grossed out and complained how dirty they must be (which was part of the point) and eventually, they fell apart, or they really did get so cruddy that they gave you a rash and shamefully, you had to give in and take them off.

I suspect Cookie’s eventually went one of those ways.

Something I forgot to mention but has anyone noticed he stopped wearing his rubber bracelets? Last night it looks like he started wearing the gray one again but the Lindsey Rose bracelet I haven’t seen since I think when the break started. His wrist almost looks naked without it. Its odd.
