David Cook told the concert crowd in Denver Friday night that said he considered performing “Billie Jean” in tribute to Michael Jackson, but the band hadn’t practiced it. Instead, he asked to have the house lights brought down for a moment of silence. (via rickey).

That was a very respectful thing for David to do. It would have been wonderful to hear him sing BJ again, but the moment of silence for Michael Jackson was most appropriate. I heard they played Michael’s music between acts. I still can’t believe he is gone. Another great talent and amazing performer has left this earth way too soon.
Nice thing for David to do. And he was being very respectful to MJ because the band does not know the song so it would be hard to do well. RIP MJ
What a class act! Well done David!
Well done, Cookie.
I still canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe he is gone.
====================
Me neither Laurie! Me neither!
That was really cool of David to do. He’s a very classy guy.
Seriously, David Cook is a class act.
Yes, David Cook is indeed a class act! I’m still kicking myself for not downloading the video of BJ from AI7 and now both of Kris’s vids from AI8.
I agree. He could have done a half a$$ed job of it and it still would have been good, but out of respect, he would have wanted it to be spectacular. Good on him.
Very classy.
Cookie brief Fox interview. Nothing about Micheal here, but it was from the same concert venue. Sooper nice Idol indeed!
Awww, that was so classy and such an appropriate way to pay tribute. Well done David.
I have wondered if Michael had been aware of David’s work with Billie Jean. I did read that the children were not allowed to watch most television program. He probably didn’t either.
cookcricket, you may still have an opportunity come Monday night to download at least one of Kris’ songs.
David Cook is a class act.
Here’s a brief interview with Cook from Denver where he comments on Michael Jackson’s passing. In addition to showing Cook’s comments on Jackson’s talent, the reporter mentioned that David credited ‘Billie Jean’ with helping him win American Idol.
Also, no video has surfaced yet, but apparently he had time to practice on the bus yesterday because he did at least a partial ‘Billie Jean’ in Aspen last night.
I wonder if that was with the whole band. He has done BJ on tour before, but always as an impromptu, solo rendition. Guess I’ll wait for the video to see if this was along the same lines or not.
I’m not sure Jolene – I didn’t listen to the cellcast. I just saw it mentioned that he played it on Twitter and at DCO. I’m guessing it was not full-band but we’ll see.
There’s another reason why David is one of my most favorite Idols.
Word on DCO is almost the full-song, ending on the big note from the Idol tour, on acoustic guitar, no band involvement. But no video as yet.
Oh, please let there be video. There goes my Sunday.
I thought the moment of silence was so classy and sweet. And, what sounds like a nice, fitting little tribute last night. To both MJ and David’s fans, who obviously really, really wanted to hear BJ.
That was a very lovely tribute to Michael Jackson. David Cook is a compassionate and very special human being and is truly a stand up classy guy. I’m proud of him and proud to be a fan.
I was not surprised he gave in to requests for “Billie Jean”. He sure likes to keep his fans happy. Smart to wait til he’d had some time to prepare before he played it.
If the Idol PTB are smart, they’ll re-release David’s “Billie Jean” (the video and the studio version because they’re both awesome) on iTunes, along with all the past MJ performances.
^^ But we know they aren’t smart, don’t we?
Very nice David. Class.
