David Cook To appear on Oprah Winfrey’s Olympic-themed Season Premiere Monday 9/8

ETA: You Tube clip of David singing “Time of My Life” during the Oprah taping today, as the Olympians file out into the crowd. You can’t see him but you can hear him: HERE.

A review of today’s show is here.

There was a surprise guest at the end, when “American Idol” winner David Cook came out to sing “The Time of My Life” to the departing athletes, who high-fived members of the public as the medalists exited through the middle of the pavilion.

David Cook will appear on the season premier of the Oprah Winfrey Show, Monday September 8, according to FOX News:

It’s all about Oprah right now. The first news is that Oprah will tape her big Olympic special in Chicago on Wednesday with all the Olympians. “American Idol” winner David Cook is going to be the only musical performer on the show, which airs Sept. 8 and kicks off Oprah’s new season.

Oprah’s Olympic-themed show features 175 athletes and is taping today at the Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago’s Millennium Park.

Cook skipped the after-show party last night in Green Bay, WI so he could fly out to Chicago to tape the show today.

“Time of My Life” has managed to stay on the charts all summer, assisted by NBC using the song in their nightly re-caps during the Beijing Olympics. The little coronation song that could, “Time of My Life” will get yet another sales boost when David performs it on the mighty Oprah Winfrey Show.

It fell off of the Top 50 downloads chart this week, but look for it to possibly re-enter the Top 50 the week after his Oprah appearance…

Sidenote: I’m hearing that David Cook won’t be making a live appearance on next week’s charity telethon Stand Up To Cancer. He’s made a taped message that will be featured on the live broadcast…

I hope they don’t cut this off on TV… He took the trouble of flying all the way there in the middle of touring. I hope they give him the respect he deserves.

It’s been speculated that since the song is already a shortened version and the show is pre-taped and not live, that they probably timed it so the song actually fits… We’ll wait and see. As long as they give DC a proper introduction and show enough of the song (all of it, preferably), I’m good. For me, it’s more about the sales bump for TOML than about winning over new fans… let’s just say that most likely the fans who will love David for TOML are not his target audience for his own music, IMO.

Nice find, dv! I checked out Nastia Liukin’s myspace pictures, its so cool that she’s a fan (I love seeing celebs/athletes be fans of other celebs). Well, I’m assuming she’s a fan because aside from the photo with Oprah and the other gymnasts, she only posted pictures from the Oprah taping of her with David, Kobe, Jason Kidd, and Cullen Jones.

It happened so quick and I think my brain froze! I was in the next room and heard the commerical come on so I figured it would be the commercial I saw previously, then I heard “and a special performance.. American Idol David Cook” (or it may have been a special guest) I ran quickly into the room and I did see a flash of some type of shot of him.
