David Cook Rushed To Hospital After Show - He’s Fine Now

David Cook was rushed to the hospital after last night’s show. According to MTV, he was experiencing heart palpitations, and high blood pressure.

TMZ reported that Cook had not been feeling well all day and his condition got worse after his performance. Show medics examined him on set and decided that his blood pressure was “far too high,” according to the site. He was encouraged to go to the hospital during the show, but chose to stick around until the Dolly Parton-themed hour was over.

David reportedly suffers from high blood pressure, was driven to the hospital by car, treated and released a few hours later. An unnamed source told TMZ that David has been under extra stress lately because his brother, who is battling cancer, had a setback.

More from those swell sarcasm folks at TMZ:

TMZ also reported that this isn’t the first time Cook has had trouble on the set, referring to a show earlier in the season when, just before his performance, he collapsed and said he could not go on, but then got it together in time to sing on stage.

Now they need to tell us which night he had problems before (I *need* to know - sorry). He’s pretty good at covering up — last night was awesome if his heart was racing. His face, especially during the judges comments, didn’t give anything away — I’m thinking it must have come on after his performance. He did end the song a bit strangely.. who knows.

Anyway, I don’t have the end on my Tivo … was he in the last shot around the piano?

Hope he’s ok. It’s rough having ill family members.

I’m glad David was not admitted to the hospital.
I’m sure they’ll be keeping a close eye on his situation.

1 out of three adults have high blood pressure some do not know it and is known as the silent killer..cuasing strokes or heart attack….(I looked it up)

I am sure David this is not new maybe stress related and hope if not is taking meds. I am happy American Idol took him to the hosptial as a precaution and please I hope thier are no pitty votes.

I hope he does well. He seems to be more humble in the past couple of weeks. I never really thought he was an egomaniac or anything, but he doesn’t have the extra verve at the end of his performances… though they have been kind of slow ones lately…

Since DavidC was treated at hospital and released, we can all assume the doxology tests were negative.

What surprises me about the situtation is that I maybe the only one that thinks this. Does anybody else think it was not a smart move on David C’s part to continue on w/ high blood pressure and heart palpitations or is it just me? It could of been worse but then I do not lok at him threw sunshine glasses either.

I found the last 20 seconds of AI from last night on the beginning of my Tivo for Hell’s Kitchen. David is there — but he does look rough, leaning heavily against the piano with a rather somber look on his face. I wish I could cap it —
    poor guy.

I would venture a guess that the stress alone of performing well, picking the right songs, getting feedback from the judges, is enough to give anyone heart palpitations. I read somewhere else (People online?) that David wasn’t with the other idols when the show was taping an upcoming Jordin Sparks appearance.

eta: JSG - now THAT is too funny…..

    Here is the People report:

One of the top contenders, Cook once again wowed the judges and audience with a stylish version of Dolly Parton’s “Little Sparrow.” Sporting a new haircut, he appeared happy and healthy during his performance.

But afterwards, Cook was noticeably absent when contestants were led into the bleachers to sit with fans and watch a live performance of last year’s winner Jordin Sparks and R&B sensation Chris Brown sing their new single “No Air.” (The segment was taped for a later broadcast).

Does anybody else think it was not a smart move on David C’s part to continue on w/ high blood pressure and heart palpitations or is it just me?

I think he’s okay to continue on as long as he manages the whole high blood pressure situation. If he was aware that he suffered from it, maybe he wasn’t taking medication, wasn’t monitoring his blood pressure properly, etc. In his AI Introduction interview, he said that he was a fan of eating “pretty much anything that is bad for you.” That’s a red flag.

It’s a scare, I’m sure. But, let’s hope he heeds the warnings.

Of course, the above is pure speculation on my dimwitted part.

I am the dimwitted one Gwendolyn—I ment on that just one preformance of course Daivd C should continue on. I worried it could of been worse .
I guess I just wish American Idol ,the media or others should lay off the kids becomes overwhealming to the point of numbness.

O.M.G !! Make fun of someone’s hair and look what happens !!! David, I’m sooooooooo sorry……. I liked your hair, I really did !! I hope you feel better….eeesh….I really enjoyed his “Sparrow” song.

I’m thinking the answer is “no” since he closed out the show last week, and normally the last performer one week goes early the following week.

However, I’m just wondering if David was supposed to go later in the show this week; however TPTB moved him up….just in case.

However, I’m glad he’s fine now. David isn’t one of my favorites; however he is an important part of this year’s show.

  16. 16 Natasha Apr 2nd, 2008 at 2:51 pm

David is my favorite. Hope he’s feeling better now. He’s a very good performer because I had no idea he was so stressed out during the season.

Maybe someone should be watching on Jeff Archuletta, making sure that he’s not slipping extra salt on David C’s food, or leaving giant bags of pretzels and chips in David’s room. Just sayin’….

    Hmmmmm that IS a thought..

where is this rumor that he collapsed before an earlier show coming from?!? have we ever heard this before from the “mole”?

  20. 20 Hisaki Apr 2nd, 2008 at 6:39 pm

where is this rumor that he collapsed before an earlier show coming from?!? have we ever heard this before from the “mole”?

The story from TMZ covers it. However, I believe it was somewhere else I read that he collapsed during either Top 20 week (”All Right Now”) or Top 16 week (”Hello”). Can’t remember where I got that, though.

I’m a Catholic-recently-turned-atheist so I couldn’t exactly say I’m “praying” for David and his family, but they will surely be in my thoughts. It’s also quite admirable of him to continue on with his performances and keep his cool during pretty much every minute of airtime he’s been getting even when being on the show means being away from his brother.

That said, he should have gotten help much sooner than 7 weeks into performances. The fact that the Idols have therapists but he’s only gotten treatment now worries me. That, and how he’s going to have to be monitored next Tuesday.

(The segment was taped for a later broadcast).

Do they happen to be broadcasting that tonight? If so, people will quickly notice he’s missing and Ryan might say something about David’s absence if prompted — which could turn this all into a big sob story (although, duly noted, much more distressing and nowhere near as “fake” as KLC’s). As much as I feel for him, I hope it doesn’t happen.

  21. 21 Steph Apr 2nd, 2008 at 7:58 pm

i hope there is no sob story either. AI loves a good sob story for the contestants’ videos, but they have never mentioned DC’s brother’s illness. he must have wanted it left out. good for him.

    never heard of that.
