hypertwink, that’s a great question and one that I’ve wondered. He’s signed to endorse gibson, but I think he’s probably allowed to use personal guitars from before the endorsement, at least on his tour. A TV appearance is another matter, and it’s possible for those appearances he must use a gibson. I know the AC guitar is his Les Paul. Anyone else have more info about this?
Scott, Les Paul is Gibson, right? No conflict there.
I only know about the endorsement because there was a fan during the Idol tour who wanted to give him a shirt with a certain guitar model as artwork, and he said he couldn’t wear it because it wasn’t a Gibson since he had the deal with them. Haven’t heard about it since (though I do believe all of the guitars he used since winning Idol were Gibson models, could be wrong).
I play guitar, so I know a little about them. The only time I’ve seen DC play anything that wasn’t a Gibson since Idol ended was when he was in the Middle East for the USO. He played a Fender Stratocaster over there. Maybe the contract doesn’t come into play outside the country? Not sure about that. Everything else I’ve seen him play has been a Gibson, mostly Les Pauls.
ETA: Andy and Neal have been playing Gibsons exclusively too.
That was a brilliant performance, Cook’s voice is beautiful and he looked really good on Ellen’s show. And I must say that the highlight for me for tonight’s finale is watching Cook perform his song “Permanent”.
David was just great on Ellen. I love the growl he put into it. I liked the band singing backup too. I would like for him to be on TV everyday, so he can growly-sing at me please.
I can’t help myself. I still love Cookie. As much as I enjoy Kris Allen this year, and I do, there will never be another idol for me like David Cook. Just love him to pieces. Can’t wait to see him tonight on the finale. They can say what they want about Adam and Kris and their star power and ability arrange music and making connections to the crowd. No one does any of that better than David Cook. It doesn’t seem possible that it has been a year since I was sitting right here with tears streaming down my face completely stunned and thrilled that David Cook won the competition.
Nice sleuthing, maturin! And thanks for the guitar info, FridayB. Interesting that Andy and Neal are in on it too. I almost never notice the guitars except for the AC one and the Hummingbird (I think that’s what it’s called) that both David and Neal own. I love their acoustic performances where they both play it, one left handed and one right handed.
*bites fingernails in anticipation for tonight’s performance*
Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait for tonight-what a day! Personally, donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care who wins tonight-just that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s on Idol
Agree with that! This video shows perfectly why this year’s Idol hasn’t been that interesting for me. I think I’m gonna love the winner of last year’s Idol for a long, long time.
Ekk. David Cook is hot. Who knew. Ok cool new Firebird. Neal has a discontinued Gibson model that he bought off the internet. They only ever made like a dozen or so. Andy has a Firebird in a dark stain and now Dave has a very light colored version. Oh wait. That is so weird. They did not really reverse the body on that Firebird. You can still see the pic guard at the top of the guitar. The nobs are reversed though. So weird.

Oooh!! Cookie and Beautiful Band To Be Named Later! Thanks for posting this. Obviously I can’t get me enough DC.
Just wish he (they) would get a chance to do Barbasol on TV.

Thanks for this MJ! I can’t get enough of DC (And am seeing him on Saturday, eep!)

Cook’s new guitar appears to be a left-handed Gibson Firebird

Thanks Jolene, FridayB and maturin… I know very little about guitars LOL!
Bahahahah. Was that from the Phillipines? LOLOLOL… I really want to know the story behind that pic if anyone has info. Aww, I love Jazzercise.

Those sneakers are awesome. OMG, is that Dublin on the back of the Barbasol sneakers???? LOL. He looks like he is barking. Too cute.

That was amazing
Is there an mp3 of this performance floating around yet?? :biggrin_wp:
Here is a link to a photo of DC’s firebird….
