David Cook - Stickam Video Chat - Light On Video Shoot

I’m watching this live-chat Stickam video thingy from the set of David Cook’s  “Light On” video shoot.  The actress who plays the love interest in the video, Mika Boorem,  is hosting the video chat.

If you want to know the deets on the “Light On” video, keep reading…

Mika has no idea David won American Idol until somebody, on camera, tells her. “Oh, he won?” she says. Heh.

At one point, David drops by to say hi to the chatters.  Mika says he and the band filmed their performance scenes yesterday (Thursday).  Impressed, she says, “It was like my own little private concert.”

The video quality of the chat is terrible, but from what I and some other peeps can piece together: The plot involves a nerdy kid who works in a diner and has a crush on his neighbor (Mika) who he’s known his entire life.  She’s dating the local jock.  In one scene, the neighbor/Mika jumps out of the jock’s car (because she won’t put out).  Just then, the nerdy kid rides by on his bike.  The girl gets a ride home on his handlebars.  They re-connect.  The end? I’m not sure what that has to do with “Light On”, but the love triangle is your typically cliched music video plot device…

You  can watch the video chat HERE.

The jock’s car is cool!  Is that a Corvair?

Bonus:  The drummer  from David’s band, has been identified.  His name is Kyle Peek.  He joins Andy Skib, Neil Tiemann (both from David’s old Tulsa band, the Midwest Kings) and Joey Clement. Check out the photos HERE.

Whoa, dude. That’s a pretty band.

Kyle is an uber-hottie. The video sounds kind of cute.

    Thanks for posting this. MJ!
The cameraman (and Mika’s offscreen bf) apologetically says that they don’t watch TV much LOL :P
Btw, are we gonna see Mika being cookified ?

    From D-C.org:
    NEMOCougar said

She was very flattering about LO — to us, not to him — and I think she knew he was ON AI, she just didn’t realize he was the winner. The bf sort of apologetically commented that they don’t have much time to watch TV

    and Annette:

Mika said that when the guys did the music part yesterday - it was like her own personal concert - she was very complimentary about David and the band and Light On.

    **it’s Neal Tiemann.

  4. 4 JudyOhio Oct 18th, 2008 at 2:10 am

This is interesting to watch. I can’t stay with it too long at a time (gets boring), but I keep finding myself checking back to watch a little bit more.
I guess I have too much time on my hands lately, lol. Btw, what is the make, model, year of that blue car? Looks really old, so makes me wonder if this video is set back in the 70’s or something?

  5. 5 hypertwink Oct 18th, 2008 at 2:16 am

Maybe, the jock in a rage hits the bike and the nerd dies. If you squint a little, you can probably interpret LO as an elegy or a song to remember someone by. The premise of the story may be cliche but I’d like to think that there’ll be a twist and a turn somewhere to make it different.

  6. 6 hypertwink Oct 18th, 2008 at 2:19 am

Hey, I just noticed that this is like Crush’s basic storyline, right? Nerdy kid (Archie) having a crush on the popular boy’s girl? Hmmm. I’m beginning to like my spec above even more.

  7. 7 Barbariba Oct 18th, 2008 at 3:50 am

I think the guy doing the video said the car is a 97 model.

  8. 8 ianamy Oct 18th, 2008 at 4:58 am

Sounds like the plot of “Mandy” video by JB. Does the Jork chase the bike of Nerd and the Girl with his car, too?

  9. 9 Layla Oct 18th, 2008 at 5:28 am

Pretty straighforaard story line…trying to see where LO fits i there? Hmmmm…

Nevertheless, I can’t wait to see it, just so I can see DC and his band. Have read that the drummer is all kinds of HOT, he IS very cute, but I feel a bit bad lusting after a kid who looks like the friends of my daughters! At least DC looks like a grown ma!

he band is very cute which shold get them some second and third looks from younger girls, who hopefully will buy the record.

A little OT, but does anyone know if iTunes is having technical difficulties? The Top Songs page is gone from the homepage, and folks are reporting being unable to download Light On - receiving this message:

Mika has no idea David won American Idol until somebody, on camera, tells her. “Oh, he won?” she says. Heh.

Maybe that’s ’cause he doesn’t fit the AI stereotype.

    Welcome back, MJ.

Kyle is hot, isn’t he? I watched some of his videos, he’s kinda shy though. It’s okey, nobody can steal my heart from…Neal anyway.

  13. 13 sue Oct 18th, 2008 at 8:05 am

Blondes in both Davids videos, lol. No offense to blondes but why not a brunette, j/k. I watch the episode of “House” she was on, she isn’t a bad actress. They could of used Kim Caldwell, that would of been fun to watch DC in a vid with Kim. Well, I am sure it is great since DC has such a great personality and he loves to goof around.

  14. 14 purplesmile Oct 18th, 2008 at 8:09 am

The drummer and the bassist are cute!

  15. 15 GwendolynD Oct 18th, 2008 at 8:54 am

    Joey Clement has pretty hair.

  16. 16 gingerly Oct 18th, 2008 at 9:26 am

I didn’t watch it last night. I was falling asleep an hour before it got on. I will just see the finished product. The boys in the band are indeed easy on the eyes.

  17. 17 justic Oct 18th, 2008 at 9:47 am

well that Drummer is quite a Bonus. welcome Kyle and thank you David!
DC got 4 talented guys on board and i think the sky is the limit for this band.
looking forward to the video just to see all the guys together.
    hope its out before SNL.

  18. 18 sidewalk Oct 18th, 2008 at 11:11 am

I’m trying to figure out how the plotline has anything to do with the song? I always imagined the song being about a man having to go off to war or something….

  19. 19 Layla Oct 18th, 2008 at 11:36 am

yeah…the story line, as it’s been descirbed thus far, doesn’t seem at first glance to have much to do with the words to LO. The war thing I’m not down with considering the mess in Iraq and elsewhere. I would rather it be a singer who has to go on the road….but hey…

I really don’t care…just wanna see DC sing his effin face off in his FIRST video.

Cracks me up…The Easy on the Eyes band…read that at DCO and it cracks me up. Oh yeah, the young girls will like that!

Maybe at some popint they will be called the David Cook Band. I really like the sound of that.

  20. 20 sunchick Oct 18th, 2008 at 11:56 am

So in this case the light is the torch the sweet nerdy guy is carrying for the girl next door? Not revolutionary, but I’m a sucker for that kind of thing.

And hellooooo band. :bye_tb: How you doin?

  21. 21 Trina Oct 18th, 2008 at 12:09 pm

Based on what we saw in the casting call I really think we only saw a small part of the plot. I’m hoping it doesn’t have some dramatic twist where someone dies..and I’m not really too crazy about the going off to war concept. Something like Carrie’s “Just A Dream” video which depicts that and has a very sad ending I just found way too depressing.

They could of used Kim Caldwell, that would of been fun to watch DC in a vid with Kim.

I don’t think this would have been a good idea at ALL. Some fans have come around to embracing her but for many she’s still a very sore subject. Plus I don’t think she fits the mold of the type of girl they went for.

  22. 22 john_socal Oct 18th, 2008 at 12:50 pm

Not much of a car buff but that definitely is not a Corvair. Maybe a Chevelle? Just amazing, is there anything that happens that isn’t covered on the internet!

  23. 23 cakeymakeybakey Oct 18th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Car is definitely NOT a Corvair. Could be a 1969 Chevelle, or possibly a ‘68 Super Sport Camaro with a custom grille. I keep watching the video, as horrible as it is, to get a good look at the badge on the side of the car. :lol_wp:

  24. 24 cakeymakeybakey Oct 18th, 2008 at 1:25 pm

Now I’m thinking the car is a Buick Regal GS. And I think I heard Mika’s cameraman say something about a Buick at the start of one of the clips…

  25. 25 workdog Oct 18th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

I haven’t really “followed” David Cook but I’ve read stuff here and around, and have listened a bit to him…he has a nice voice, and no offense to any Daughtery fans, but it’s less goaty and more pleasant on the ears, a little more versatile…well, my ears.:-) I think if he has good material he will do just fine. Outside observations, y’all.:-) I also think it’s really awesome that some of his bandmates are also going along for this ride. How cool is that? Working with people you are comfortable with on such a bigger stage…

Good luck to all of them.

As to Chris D….he’s not my cup of tea but I like to see all of these guys get a good shot at the ring…and seems to have worked it pretty well. Good for him, too.:-)

People have being complaining about this all mornig in IDF forums from DA´s fans… maybe if you donwload the iTunes 8.01 will help…

Maybe at some popint they will be called the David Cook Band. I really like the sound of that.

Layla, you must have been reading my mind, I was thinking the very same thing. Eventually, David Cook Band, sounds good.

Based on what we saw in the casting call I really think we only saw a small part of the plot.

Trina, I haven’t watched the vid(s)? yet, but based on some of the comments I was wondering the same thing. I would have to look at the casting call again, but could it possibly follow this couple throughout various points in their lives, and different types of leaving…IDK just speculating.

I’ll have to watch the vids later. Thanks for posting mj!

  28. 28 noctem seizure Oct 18th, 2008 at 1:51 pm

I think this video sounds like a missed opportunity. The subject matter of LO’s lyrics is wrenching. But, the plot of the video just seems to be the standard “social misfit who longs for popular girl from afar eventually wins her away from popular guy.” To maximize the video’s impact on the single’s success, in all respects, they ought to match the concept for its video to the words of the song.

  29. 29 Layla Oct 18th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

    Yeah…the David Cook band!! :clap_tb:

Re the video…I’m sure what was shown on that horrendous (quality) video was just a small part of a whole story…here’ hopin’ But as I said before…

As long DC is singing his effin face off in the video and his band members are doing what they are supposed to be doing (besides lookin’ good!) …it’s all good.

Wonder how long it will take them to edit then present the video? What is it…3 1/2 minutes long? Would be nice if the video premiere it somehow coincided with the SNL appearance. Also read that DC will be on VH1-perhaps he will introduce his own video.

Sucks I won’t be able to buy it from itunes. I want to get all of DC’s stuff legally!

  30. 30 Sarah Oct 18th, 2008 at 3:02 pm

What is it with hot drummers for these AI rock guys? First the hot drummer in Daughtry, now this guy. Me likey. ;) Can’t wait to see all the “official” pics!

  31. 31 kathrynTX Oct 18th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

Also read that DC will be on VH1-perhaps he will introduce his own video.

Sucks I won’t be able to buy it from itunes. I want to get all of DC’s stuff legally!

Layla, I’m thinking you don’t live in the U.S. and there are different iTunes selections in different countries? Right? The Light On video WILL be available on U.S. iTunes. Right? ARGH. I guess I’m an isolationist but I was thinking that everything iTunes carried in the WORLD was available to the U.S. and I was seeing their entire selection! Why not? We could sort by country. Or something. Hey I want access to everything, iTunes PTB. So back OT…I thought having the live chat/video from the set of the video shoot was cool. I’ve never seen a video or movie being shot. And how did YOU get to BE there, mj? LOL! Cool! Did your dang host pay for that trip? hahahaha!

I think the lyrics to Light On can be interpreted many ways by many people. I don’t think the video will SUCK just because it’s not MY interpretation. I didn’t know WHAT to expect. Well maybe something on the “serious” side, like more serious than a high school romance story. ? I dunno. But I didn’t think it MUST be about a man going away to war. How about a WOMAN leaving for war, anyway? We shall see when we shall see.

I DID finally get into the chat room last night too! YAY! I was watching when David appeared on camera, but the audio was sucking at that time. Dammit. AND he appeared before the OFFICIAL start time of 9PM PST. I KNOW it was before 11PM CST and I think I know there is 2 hours difference…right now anyway. I thought it looked like they were making a video, the actress with the lead female role was hosting the live chat/video, and David came over to say hello. Nice. Love you, Cook! Can’t wait for the video and the David Cook Band tour!

  32. 32 Lisa Oct 18th, 2008 at 3:42 pm

I believe the car is a 1972 Buick Skylark GS-350. Check out the shape of the rear windows, they are the same.

    http://www.teufert.net/gs/gs.htm

(I can’t believe I took the time to research that, lol)

  33. 33 GwendolynD Oct 18th, 2008 at 3:53 pm

We really only saw the part of the video in which Mika was involved because it was…well, a video for her site. It’s hard to understand the entire concept, particularly since the filming took place over a two-day period, and we only saw one day.

  34. 34 Lisa Oct 18th, 2008 at 3:56 pm

Whatever it was almost made me seasick and nauseous. Someone needs to learn how to hold a camera phone still…… My eyes are hurting now.

  35. 35 LK08 Oct 18th, 2008 at 4:02 pm

    Sue-

Fans had been told that they were using a brunette for DA’s video, and we even saw pictures of her. Well, I guess once they got to the taping and got going, they found that the chemistry of DA and the blond worked out better, so they used her. DA said she was a lot like him- more shy, I guess. I love the two of them together. I think most of his fans see him ending up with a brunette, but you never know. The girl is still in DA’s video.

I expect the considerations for who they used for Cook’s had more to do with the acting maybe or her resume.

  36. 36 mac Oct 18th, 2008 at 5:06 pm

I think this video sounds like a missed opportunity. The subject matter of LO’s lyrics is wrenching.

I agree. I was hoping for DC and his band singing and then they would flash to different heart wrenching separations of loved ones. Like men going off to war, kids going off to college, etc. I think that would have been great and would have conveyed the true meaning of the song. Oh well, i am looking forward to the video and I will be open minded until I see it. Hoping it will be great!

So now I am really stumped why they were looking for cowboys in the casting? Isn’t that what it said? LOL

  37. 37 hypertwink Oct 18th, 2008 at 5:38 pm

If you think about it, 2 cowboys in the wilds and then screwing each other…that sounds like gay porn rather than a future Oscar-nominated movie. So I think we’re just seeing parts rather than the whole. Maybe, when it’s put together, it’s different from what we thought it would be.

  38. 38 Barbariba Oct 18th, 2008 at 6:49 pm

I’m trying very hard not to have any pre-conceived ideas of what the video will be, but after watching Mika’s live chat last night, I must say it’s getting very hard. I really hope there is more to the video than just jock boy disses cute girl who runs to boy next door type and rides off (on a bicycle no less!) into the distance. Um..NO! That is not my idea of the meaning of the lyrics to Light On.
Please let this be another WTF Cook! moment.

  39. 39 ozarka Oct 18th, 2008 at 7:56 pm

So now I am really stumped why they were looking for cowboys in the casting? Isn’t that what it said? LOL

Cowboys was just one of several types they were looking for to play as background extras…

Description: Punks, skaters, hiphop types, nerds, cowboys. All looks shapes and sizes. Must be avail for both shoot dates.
    Background / Male / Female / All Ethnicities / 18 - 21 years. Rate: $100 for 12 hours.

My guess is that these extras will be the customers loitering around in the diner scene that Mika alluded to during the chat video. We even got a shot of that diner from the outside in the parking lot, I think.

  40. 40 ShariG Oct 18th, 2008 at 8:32 pm

I tried to go on to the live chat but they didn’t send me the link to join in time so I could only watch the video. She was a cute girl but seemed a little flakey to me. How could you not know that David Cook won idol even if you don’t have time to watch television. Wouldn’t you want to look into the person who’s video you are making? I can’t wait to see this video but think they are targeting teens again with it rather than his bread and butter fans who tend to be 20s and up. I hope his managing team decides what audience they are trying to reach. Even the girl next door with the football player boyfriend and the nerdy next door neighbor is high school stuff. The words to Light On seemed to lend itself more to someone in their 20s/30s needing to leave home and not wanting to go. Even so, I am looking forward to the video and hope it encourages the idiots on the radio to play Light On more across the country. My personal opinion is that it is a much better song than Crush which seems to be on the radio ad nauseum. I’m happy for Archie, but who decides what to play? Why the same six songs over and over?

  41. 41 caringgirl Oct 18th, 2008 at 9:21 pm

Edit: No lecturing or chastising fellow posters. Posters who continually disregard the guidelines are eventually banned…

I hope its great! cant wait

  42. 42 Trina Oct 18th, 2008 at 11:01 pm

Why would a professional actress need to research who’s video she’s going to be in? I can see that maybe being necessary if you have to get all up close and personal with the artist but for a lot of actors and actresses a job is a job and whether or not she knows who he is certainly shouldn’t have any impact on the video. I thought Mika was very nice and more than respectful towards David. She didn’t know much about him but she complimented him, the band and the song.

On X-Factor the contestant, Austin, that Simon mentors did the Chris Cornell version of Billie Jean given to him by Simon. The comments from the judges are pretty funny. The first judge Louie immediately brings up David, Simon reminds Louie that even though David did perform it its a Chris Cornell arrangement LOL

  43. 43 GwendolynD Oct 18th, 2008 at 11:15 pm

I can ignore the fact that Mika - a young, normal, working actress, who auditioned primarily because she probably needed the work - didn’t know who David was. I’m an abnormally obsessive fan. For the casual viewer, or even one who may have seen him a couple of times on the news or talk shows, they forget him the second he’s off the TV screen. I think she was a nice girl, giving her fans a behind the scenes look at being an actress. That’s what the introductory video said (before the live footage began airing).

So yeah, she doesn’t need to do any research on the video. I agree, Trina. It’s just a job.

  44. 44 cookcricket Oct 18th, 2008 at 11:47 pm

OMG!!! I decided to watch “some” of the vid for this. I thought to myself, “Which one will show DC?” So I click on the one that has over 1500 views and of course, there he is!!! WooHoo!!! All of the others are in the hundreds. That’s the only one I watched because, well that’s who I wanted to see. LOL!!!

I don’t think this actress realized how many viewers and chatters she would have! That’s okay if she didn’t know who DC was, she knows now! LOL!

I’m going to wait to see the finished video to decide whether it will be good on not. I have a feeling we only saw a part of the vid being made and not the “big picture” as I think others have posted.

Really, to be honest: “I’m stoked!! Anything DC is well, Awesome!!! WooHoo!!!!!!

  45. 45 ozarka Oct 19th, 2008 at 3:35 am

Is it just me or did anyone else get the impression that David really did not want to be there during that video chat? Did you see how quickly he got himself out of the picture? Maybe he really was busy, but I think he could have stayed just a tad bit longer to talk to his fans. Right?

  46. 46 Layla Oct 19th, 2008 at 3:36 pm

I think DC was charming and accommodating…what fans would he be talking to…this girl(forgot her name) was responsible for this horribly done video.

Looked like he wa in the middle of soemthing else. Thought he was a sweetheart about it.

  47. 47 May Oct 19th, 2008 at 5:08 pm

I don’t think this actress realized how many viewers and chatters she would have! That’s okay if she didn’t know who DC was, she knows now! LOL!

I know! She looked really taken aback when she realized that he was the winner…I think it all came together for her at that point! :doh_tb:

Layla, I agree. I thought DC was very gracious to take time out to give a shout out to fans, even if brief. I don’t think he knew anything about the video shoot in advance, so he looked a little unprepared, but certainly not annoyed.
