From the RCA press release announcing David Cook’s Spring college tour:
On February 12, Walt Disney World Resort will host the world premiere of their new blockbuster attraction, “The American Idol Experience” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. David Cook will perform live from the attraction on GOOD MORNING AMERICA (ABC) that morning, and will headline a special guest performance during the night’s event.
There had been talk about Cook appearing at the opening of the new Disney World American Idol Experience attraction, and now it’s official.

Well that will be some awesome promo! I wonder what he will perform? One of his own songs, or some sort of disney song? Maybe it will be the magic rainbow song, since Disneyland is all about magic and such.
If it’s not his next single (which I really hope will be revealed by that time), than I hope it’s “When You Wish Upon A Star”. That’s the only Disney song I want to hear from him, that snippet of it from the Disney Commercial he did was beautiful.
And please, no more Light On.
Hmm, I could be wrong, but I kind of doubt he’ll be singing Light On or the next single, since this event is to promote the AI/Disney attraction, and not DCTR. I was thinking they might make him sing one of the songs available for the attraction, which is a shame, since it seems like DC was done reprising his Idol covers. I’d rather he sing When You Wish Upon A Star if that’s the case.
Awesome! Thanks MJ. What a fabulous way to kick off his tour. Good luck.
I don’t care what he sings. I just need to know when and where to show up. Frig, I’m there if he just hums the American Idol theme song. :jittery_tb:
(Okay, I do care a little. I’m jonesing for the next single.)
Cool, another tv appearance. Can’t wait.
SInce it’s to promote the Idol Experience, I think he’s going to sing one of the songs he did on Idol, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s ABMB.
I wonder – if he’s performing at both GMA and that same night for the opening event, if he will do two different songs or the same one for both appearances.
I have no problem with him singing a cover, I adore his covers, and no matter what they’ll have him sing he’ll make it his own.
Plus – yeah, I doubt he’ll get to sing his own single at the opening of the AI attraction. And really, what song of his will fit that Disney setting? Declaration won’t, Lie really really won’t. Maybe Heroes, but that’s pretty much it I think.
Since the attraction opens 2/12, and AI reveales its Top 36 contestants the night before, I wonder if they’ll have them all go down there as a publicity stunt? I can see them doing that and then having a segment about it on the show.
I think having the current American Idol there to sing should be sufficiently Idol-tastic to mark the opening of the attraction, so I’m going to hope that Disney doesn’t dictate what he has to sing. The attraction is for kids 14 and over so I don’t think he needs to really worry about offending anyone with an electric guitar or a growly voice.
Is the event at night going to be televised, or just his morning performance on GMA?
^ good question
Sunchick, I’m gonna go too… I’m just trying to decide if I want to take the whole day off work and spend it in the park. I need to get with my peeps that work for Disney and see what the exact schedule is. I know someone who’s working press for the event, so if this is already going out, she should be getting the full schedule soon. :happy_tb:
Ohhhh, work it, Sarah. If you want to pass the deets along, I’d be ever so grateful. :thumbup_tb:
I would think that he would sing a song he performed on American Idol since he’s there to promote the American Idol Experience attraction. I hope so anyways. I would love to see him perform “Billie Jean” or “Always Be My Baby” or “Hello”. But whatever he sings, I just can’t wait to see/hear him on TV again! Yay!!!
This should be fun~ My brother will probably go to the Radford show.
So yeah yeah yeahs~
I dont think it would be a shame if he reprised his Idol covers?? I LOVED them and would never tire of hearing Billy Jean or ABMB!! I hope he does sing those and because this IS an Idol attraction I would be willing to bet that is the way they will have him go. Those Idol cover songs are how we discovered and fell in love with Cook so they can only bring back wonderful memories, well, I think so
OK, so looks like we have 3 options here:
1. The 2nd single (unlikely)
2. A cover from Idol
3. A new cover, probably Disney related.
You know what? As long as it’s David singing on national TV, I think I’ll be thrilled no matter what he sings. If it’s an Idol cover, I’d bet it’s ABMB.
I do wonder if the night’s event isn’t televised (and I don’t think it is) if we’ll get to see the full performance from that. I’m sure Idol will have a segment about the opening, but they won’t show more than a snippet of the performance at best.
I honestly do no think David will do a cover. If that were the case, the AI DC commercial would have been on Billie Jean, not Light On music. That would be a regression, which is not David’s MO, but more importantly it is not what AI sold the last few nights on AI8. They have been pushing that David’s path is set. It’ll either be Light On that people are familiar with or another song off his current record.
The American Idol Experience event on Feb. 12 is a private media event, there has been no word about whether or not it will be televised. It is taking place from 4:30-10pm and is closed to the public and cast members of the WDW resort.
The GMA taping that same morning is still in discussion as to whether or not it will be open to the public or cast members, as it will most likely take place before the park opens, they will more than likely use either cast or people brought in to fill the audience seats.
As to what song he may perform it will most likely be one of his own, this is afterall an American Idol promotion. This AIE show at the park is a partnership with American Idol, and daily winners get a free “pass the line” audition at a future AI audition.
Yup, that’s what I was thinking. I’m thinking it could be one of the songs on the (was it 100 idol songs?) list that participants get to choose from.
I wonder how many songs he’ll doing in total. Too bad all of them (if more than one) will not be televised.
Anything but Light On. Something new, I hope. Or a good cover if it comes to that.
Yeah, really, that.
Um…this isn’t a public event. Disney doesn’t televise ride/attraction opening events. You will likely not see any of this performance unless someone happens to get video there.
