David Cook – VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown – “Light On” is #1

David Cook appeared on the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown today, just in time to introduce his video for “Light On”.

It debuted on the countdown at #1. Congrats Cookie!

David also introduced the #2 video, David Archuleta’s “Crush”. Nice!

Check out the video after the jump. Video courtesy of Rickey. My DVR cut off the last 10 minutes of the show this morning. Sorrow.

“Girls, keep your pants on.” Ha ha.

  • Congrats to David and the fans who voted!
    I know I did my share… LOL

I remember people talked about how no one enters high on VH1’s countdown, so I guess those who watched the show assumed he didn’t make it when the video didn’t appear early on… only to get a very nice surprise at the end of the show.
Reading the liveblogging at DCO was a wild ride even knowing how it all ended.

Getting him to #1 when he’s actually in the studio to experience it… Totally worth my advancing carpal tunnel syndrome. LMAO

  • It’s always nice to know that voting really pays off. It’s really neat to know that both Archie and David made their guest spots when their videos went to #1 on the countdown. It’s a big achievement for the fans.

This is a good day. Yay! :D

  • Cookie is having a good week! :thumbup_tb:

  • Yay for DC! All that click-drag-click was worth it to debut him at #1 while he was on the show :D

LOL at the host chick: “remember? the snl afterparty? where we met?” There goes another one…

  • Cookie is having a good week!

    He sure is.
Between the Platinum Rainbow, the debut into #1, and the album’s projections… a fantastic week.
Also – 5 Days in, David’s still the #2 album on iTunes, #1 Pop.
Beyonce must be making a killing in stores, because on iTunes her huge lead is not showing. The Twilight OST passed her for #3. Strange.

The reports I’m hearing on the boards are that stores are stocking displays with 2-6 times as many Beyonce CDs as Nickelback/Cook. And yes, they seem to be flying off the displays. Her in-store sales appear to be huge.

  • LOL Whats with Archie and the Number 2? So I guess its only the Davids who have so far appeared in this countdown introducing the number 1 video which happens to be their own?………….Congratulations to both!!!!

It probably dependes on what type of area a particular store is located as to the CDs they stock. I checked my Walmart yesterday, and there were only two rocks of David Cook and Nickelback, and both rows had some left. There were about 10 rows of Beyonce, but many were still there.

I did hear that quite a few WalMarts had sold out of DC, but I don’t take that as good news, since it just means people who wanted the CD couldn’t get it. Nobody’s running from one WalMart to the next looking for Beyonce… They find it on the first try.

Wow. It really does depend. I didn’t know there were still places that sold music carved on rocks. LOL. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. Some typos are fun (goodness knows I make enough of them).

I happened to be in two music stores this week and Nickelback is definitely getting the lions share of the primo CD locations (which only makes sense since they are a local band). At Future Shop, Nickelback got 12 slots, Il Divo and Beyonce got 6 each, Dido got three and Cook got the three on the bottom. At HMV, Il Divo, Nickelback, Beyonce and Dido each got three slots (starting from the top row) with Cook having two slots below Dido. In the two lines I stood in, all everybody was buying was WALL-E. Poor music biz.

  • Thanks for posting. This was fun to see. I’m so glad that David’s video was number one. Well deserved. Is there any news about when another single will be released from the CD? There are so many songs that should be getting air time. In my local Walmart, David Cook had about 8 racks in three different locations, 3, 3, and 2. Beyonce had about the same. I didn’t notice Nickelback or Il Divo. That was the day that both David and Beyonce’s CD was released though, so that may be the reason.

  • I live in the middle of Middle America. Almost everyone I know around here seems to listen exclusively to country music, and our radio stations seem to be lots and lots of country, classic rock and Christian. The thrill of my radio-listening is driving close enough to Champaign to hear WPGU or close enough to Chicago to hear WXRT. I have heard TOML on the radio exactly once, and neither Crush nor LO. Ever.

Down here in Nowheresville, DC, Beyonce and Nickelback each had three slots in the endcap at my WalMart. Each slot held seven cds. None of either Beyonce’s or Nickelback’s were gone at noon on Thursday when I visited, although about half of Cook’s were gone.

Target had about 12-15 slots for Beyonce, with three for Nickelback, but their three were closer to the top of the rack (that Beyonce was dominating). Cook also had three slots, but they were way down at the bottom at what I called “snake level” in another thread. It didn’t look as though anyone had been selling like crazy, although there were a few gone here and there. Wall-E had its own dump (its own free-standing rack, and yes, that’s what you call it) and appeared to be getting a lot more attention than anything on the music side. Target also had labels attached to each slot to identify who was supposed to be there, so you couldn’t rearrange things for guerilla marketing or anything.

  • Awesome! Absolutely awesome!

  • I did hear that quite a few WalMarts had sold out of DC, but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t take that as good news, since it just means people who wanted the CD couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get it. Because logically stores are going to order a ton of Beyonce CD’s since she was expected to sell a truckload. Stores sell out, it happens. Hell I live in a major part of New Jersey and my Walmart was sold out of DC AND Nickelback today. So obviously this store underestimated the demand of both. I remember back when Daughtry’s CD came out I had to go to 3 stores and that was Black Friday week.

  • He’s dropped to #3 on itunes. :( . I guess that “Twilight” coming out this weekend has paid off for their soundtrack.

  • Wow, I did not expect Cook to get to #1 on the VH1 countdown. I voted for it exactly 0 times. I have not done any Cookie CD placement recognizance either, but I didn’t purchase my physical copy in a store. Hopefully the people who can’t find it this week still look for it next week – the low stock might end up boosting his 2nd week sales.

  • Well, next week contains the big christmas shopping day so that’s prolly gravy for everyone.

  • So I guess its only the Davids who have so far appeared in this countdown introducing the number 1 video which happens to be their own?

I think Elliott might have done it, too, with his Wait For You, which also debuted on VH1 at number one last year.

  • They’re replaying the show (it’s 9:32 AM ET) right now for anybody who didn’t catch it!

If you haven’t gone to the VH1 website to watch the video for David’s “Light On Challenge” http://blog.vh1.com/2008-11-07/david-cooks-light-on-challenge/ I seriously recommend you do so. The stripped down acoustic version David and Neal Tiemann play is outstanding, and well worth sitting thru the chord lesson just prior to it.
