I told you Monday that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  contestant David Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s album à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Analog Heartà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  was available for downloading on Amazonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s MP3 site. It was so popular that it rocketed to No. 1, beating Mariah Careyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s latest release.

This statement is ridiculous Analog heart was only available at Amazon digital downloads. People who are buying Mariah’s newest are either buying the CD or downloading it at iTUNES. NO WAY was Analog Heart outselling Mariah Carey. That’s a misleading and ridiculous statement.

And the business about making an end run around 19. Believe me, nobody makes an “end run” against those guys. They make it their business to know everything that’s going on. Last year, less than 24 hours after I posted some spoilers, one of their lawyers left a message on my home phone. 19 has known about Analog Heart from day one, no doubt.

Friedman has pissed me off before. Particularly with his Clive ass-kissing in the Kelly Clarkson affair. It was so obvious he was taking his marching orders from somewhere.

That Fox article made me angry because, as MJ pointed out, there are many factual errors.

Saying “he already has an album out” and that it’s “on the charts.” And that’s only a couple of them. Ridiculous. And MJ is right, he doesn’t care.

I also posted a blog trying to correct the things Friedman wrote, but it’s hard to get around the major news networks. I have a feeling I’ll overhear some people in my office talking about him being a cheater or something like that. It always happens when stories like this come out.

Very frustrating. I’m sure it will blow over though. It’s probably better to pull the album for the remainder of the competition and just focus on that.

What remains are the 91 reviews from enthusiastic Cook fans who did download “Analog Heart” before “American Idol” had it pulled down. One can only wonder what’s gone on backstage with Cook and the “Idol” producers, particularly the folks at 19 Entertainment. Cook seemed to be doing an end run around his contract with the show and management group before the contest ended.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe DC is necessarily being singled out. Look at poor Archie and the controversy around his dad. That canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be good for him as he tries to compete in this contest.

Scandal seems to follow many of the Idols. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing new. Friedmanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s article bugged me, because he got some things wrong, and left out important details.

What bothers me is that between the cover “controversy” and now this, there’s this insinuation that David C. is cheating his way through the competition. David A has had negative press too, but it’s about his dad and thus not so much his “fault”.

Also I feel mad that Friedman’s crappy hit piece, inaccuracies and all, could actually have the power to get the album pulled. I suppose it’s possible that the timing is a coincidence…but somehow I don’t think so.

I would like to add that I find the removal of the CD from Amazon is just so patently unfair, when so many other idols, past and present, are not having the same issue. i.e, Taylor, Constantine, etc.

I think you’ll find that FOX could care less. Actually, you should have addressed your letter to 19, the people who produce the show. But I can assure you–they don’t care either.

Hmm, that’s very interesting to know. I think Amazon lists it as appearing in early December 2007, although many people swear it wasn’t there until some time in March because they searched for it earlier in the AI season. It really was just “discovered” by the fans about a month ago. Weird.

If anything, TPTB are making money off him thanks to these iTunes downloads, while Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d venture to guess that most people buying them have no idea that he has (had) previous stuff available elsewhere.

Well, the unicorn and rainbow kind of person that I am think that maybe the album has been pulled so TPTB can get their share of the Cookie. Perhaps they will distribute physical cds to brick and mortar stores after the show? *colored roses glasses firmly planted on nose*

When this broke out yesterday, I was royally pissed. Mad even. I couldn’t believe how much crap Cook has had to deal with so far in this competition. Now I’m trying to see it differently… Who knows what really is going on… *scratches head*

Still, I remember Pray for the Soul of Betty reaching #1 on Amazon and it was never pulled.

Well, there was/is the conspiracy talk that the CD was able to be released because of a loophole in the contract, and that C’s exit was engineered as a consequence. Of course there’s also grassy knoll theorizing that his exit was used to draw heat away from the Paula/Corey Clark situation, and that he seemed to enjoy a pretty long leash with regard to what he could/say after the boot (including a CD listening party with 19E security personnel and Sony suits in attendance), so who knows?

Seems like whatever the case, AI still hasn’t managed to close that particular loophole.

Untwist those “pantys” Cook fans.

I think this will generate more interest in DC and make Analog Heart a hot item on E-bay for a while. And no I’m not selling a copy there, but I’m sure someone will!

It is a little odd that DC’s album was pulled. Carly’s CD has been mentioned in a couple of news articles, so it’s not just that. It could be because it was selling well. It could be because it was not offered for sale on Amazon until after the competition began (it seems that you can continue to sell through channels you’ve established prior to the show).

DC should have checked with his BFF CD who continued to sell his band’s album throughout the comptetition to find out how to circumvent the rules. LOL.

I don’t understand why this is an indication of the “depimping” of DC. The article was dumb but probably not widely read and even if it was, not likely to change any fans’ minds. I don’t think this will hurt him in the least.

This is in reference to American Idol not wanting another Taylor to win the title. Certainly, this may also be true of Blake. Yet, this quality attracts fans when the Idol (contestant) has a creative and unique approach to their music.

I don’t believe for one second that TPTB didn’t know it was there. They must have interns reading the boards and David’s fans have been talking about it for a month. As far as the other Idols go, I don’t think they can pull anything that an unrelated label wants to sell on Amazon. I wouldn’t be surprised if David pulled the CD himself just to get people to STFU, which will probably spawn a new line of attacks. “See, he knew he was breaking the rules!1!”

I’m still more pissed about the attack slant of the Friedman article than the CD going poof.
