where are the one step at a time numbers? just wondering

    Thanks for the stats.

Is it odd that Archie’s runner-up song was not released as a single? I seem to remember a song from the runner-up being released every year but this year. Is my memory bad or is this a first?

Hmmmm. A possible jump in DC’s numbers because of the tour?

  4. 4 jpfan Jul 9th, 2008 at 10:47 am

The tour is for the Idol fans already. Radio play gets the new fans. I think the single sold 400K in downloads in the first two weeks after the finale. So the Idol fanbase is the prime purchaser (just like the other corny coronation songs) even though unlike the others it’s getting played on the radio a lot. My interpretation - just like everyone else, Cook will need to put good songs out there to make it. Clive’s theory that an Idol win usually guarantees 500K seems correct.

We only really have the numbers for the top 50 (and a few others) at this point. OSAAT is probably still in the top 200 and Ken Barnes will likely get us the numbers later today.

Justin never got a runner-up song. Clay and Diana had one. Bo had to release the same song as Carrie. Katharine had a runner-up song, but she paired that with SOTR to be a double-A side single. Blake didn’t have a runner-up song, but they kind of pushed “You Give Love a Bad Name” as his single. Archie didn’t get a runner-up single at all. We never even heard him sing the coronation single.

Justin and Archie are the only two runner-ups to have no single available for sale after the show (Archie did have performance versions of his finale songs available on iTunes, but those were pulled a week after the finale. Archie didn’t have any studio versions of his songs available after the finale).

They are playing the **** out of TOML in my area. Seriously, it’s Daughtry-level support he’s getting.

  8. 8 jpfan Jul 9th, 2008 at 11:14 am

For Daughtry level support, his downloads since the finale are okay but not great. It’s a terrible song though so it’s still impressive that they’ve sold this many. One Step At A Time has moved up on Itunes this week so it should appear in the Top 50 on next week’s chart.

I don’t think it’s really Daughtry level. It’s done really well for what it is and he’s getting some aiplay on the all important Z100 but did any other major markets really do anything with it? I just figured Z100 jumped on it because I remember a lot of the DJ’s were fans of his during AI.

I’ve heard it on the radio in Santa Cruz or San Jose a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t recognize it till the last words of the song.

It fits the rock format pretty well for a coronation song.

Hmmm…what happened to Jordin’s “One Step At A Time”?

  12. 12 sherryw Jul 9th, 2008 at 1:27 pm

Daughtry’s last single (which, being Daughtry, got Daughtry level support) only sold 495k and fell off the top 200 download chart two weeks ago but is still getting a hell of a lot more airplay than TOML. PSSST…. and, it’s actually a decent song….no magic, rainbows, or anything.

Jordin’s No Air dropped from No. 26 to No. 31 on the chart, selling 40,000 copies, down 16%, for a grand total of 2.21 million. One Step at a Time manages to hold steady at 58, but is down 5% in sales to 23,000, for a total of 175,000. Tattoo declines 142-149, selling 9,000, off 10%, for a total of 1.71 million.

Elliott album sales in Japan this week were:6,281. Total Japanese sales: 90,457,

A gold record in Japan is 100K so he’s 90% of the way there. :thumbup_tb:

I love TOML and he changes it up every time he performs it. It took Carrie 4 years to reach 700,000 and David has 616,000 in 6 weeks. I think he is doing very very very well. With the tour now on and the rave reviews I think he will get close to platinum.

David A had all his releases on at the same time as David C´s. Each week the studio versions were put up on itunes and we saw the outcome with the sales.

Not really sales related but magic rainbow moved up to #10 on the Billboard Hot AC chart! Woo!! Love that he managed to crack the Top 10 on both AC & Hot AC.

I haven’t been able to get into Mediabase all day (Thursday). Are they down for anybody else?

eta: Great news about TOML breaking into Top 10 on HAC!
